the last dragonborn - Cambria - October 24, 2024

As autumn slowly drained the colors from the foliage, so too did the Redtails’ claim on the rise fade in strength. A few members even dispersed, drifting away on the wind just like dead leaves. Cambria felt his own tethers beginning to fray and unravel.

For a while, he continued regular patrols, though he barely saw or spoke to those who remained. He didn’t even see much of @Redd or @Ruckus, though he often left food for them. She hadn’t given any further indication that she wanted to go find @Etienne and he hadn’t pressed the issue either.

As Etienne crossed his mind just now, Cambria remembered quite clearly that moment when he’d realized he could lose him. Now as his first and only pack slipped from his grasp, he began to wonder if any of it was worth it. If forming attachments inevitably led to separation in the end, then what was the point?

The Dragonling concluded that the only one he could really rely on was himself. It wasn’t easy to just walk away, but it was simple. After staring at the mount for what felt like a small eternity, Cambria tore his eyes away from it for the last time and began walking.

He went south at first. He hadn’t said goodbye to anyone else but he sort of wanted to see Etienne one last time. Then Cambria remembered that he was probably still busy with the hunt. Besides, wouldn’t seeing him again only make his decision harder?

Cambria set his jaw and pivoted east instead, heading out of the Teekon Wilds altogether.
