Etienne’s maman would hear it from him first, Anselm told himself — but as he neared the Sapphique camp he grew increasingly discomfited.
He had a good inkling of who she was, purely by the many passing remarks Etienne had made over the years. His mind did a skip and a pause over the thought ‘years’.
But it had been years.
