He could smell snow in the mountains. On the highest reaches, the peaks were beginning to whiten; it was only a matter of time now before snow fell in the Vale too, cradled as it was in the range. The mountains to the East made dawn break late- and to the west, those cold shoulders made dusk creep in early.
The vale might be sheltered from high winds, but it might also become a pocket of frost.
Tousaint’s fur has begun to thicken, so he noticed as he set out on an early morning patrol. Just in time for the cold to settle in.
The sky was pink, the clouds gold; his breath hovered momentarily as a wisp of silver before it disappeared. He moved along, renewing their markings, searching for any signs of trespassers or visitors throughout the night.
