The sun hung high, its warmth spilling over Samirseti’s ebony coat and catching the gold of his features in vivid relief. His long, lean frame moved with deliberate care over the rocky shoreline, every step measured, his massive paws gliding noiselessly across the uneven terrain.
He wasn’t here to marvel at the scenery, though it was pleasant enough. No, this was merely another pause in what had become an increasingly tiresome journey. His thoughts turned toward Akashingo, the distant court of his uncle. He was expected... soon.
The thought gnawed at him, but not enough to push him forward. Not yet. Akashingo would be there when he arrived, as unchanging as the gods themselves.
Still, Samir knew he was wasting time. Each delay was another moment spent outside the orbit of power, outside the place of his family. Where he would be most safe.
He stepped closer to the water, the sun’s heat contrasting with the coolness of the lake as it lapped at his paws.
