Alone—but not adrift - Iruna - December 17, 2024 all welcome
Íruna stood alone. Neverwinter stretched endlessly, its limbs tangled, air carrying the frigid chill of winter. She exhaled slowly, her breath clouding in the coolness as her lavender eyes traced the horizon, lingering on nothing and everything all at once. The stillness was not unfamiliar—it was a companion she had come to know well. Beneath the canopy of the trees, she felt the presence of something greater: the faint hum of the Vættir, the pulse of the land, the quiet that came from simply existing here. It was enough. It had to be. She lowered herself to her haunches, the thick fur of her coat ruffling as she sat, ears twitching at the smallest sounds—the creak of a distant bough, the rustle of something unseen in the underbrush. Her gaze fell to the earth at her paws, where frost clung to the edges of fallen leaves, a fleeting thing, beautiful even as it withered. Alone—but not adrift. RE: Alone—but not adrift - Callyope - December 22, 2024 iruna. a presence so warm and welcomed. she wished for this woman to be involved in her life in all ways. a wedding on the horizon, children too she hoped — even if she was certain such a thing could not take just yet. when? begged her mind! cheeks flushed, she drew near the seer now. are you busy?her voice a soft whisper meant only for this woman's ears. RE: Alone—but not adrift - Iruna - December 22, 2024 Íruna turned at the sound of Callyope’s voice, her lavender eyes softening as they settled on the familiar figure. She had been sorting through her freshly gathered herbs, arranging them into neat bundles beneath the dappled shade of the empty trees. Trying to, otherwise, occupy her mind with thoughts not of the strong, golden brute she had met only days ago. "Seiðkona, what can I do for you?" She set the sprigs of thyme down with care, dusting her paws lightly before stepping closer to the other woman. RE: Alone—but not adrift - Callyope - December 22, 2024 i am to be married, this said with a smile, even if she knew such was likely already presumed by all. i wished to know if...if you will tell me of any prayers. ones for mothers and wives. in the tongue of forneskja. she had not realized that she was suddenly holding her breath, waiting for an answer. she did not think her seer would take offense at such a request. yet her nerves had become like burning stars within her. RE: Alone—but not adrift - Iruna - December 22, 2024 Íruna blinked, her lavender eyes lifting from the bundle of herbs she had been tending to, the faintest flicker of splendid surprise crossing her features. She was happy to hear, at long last, the engagement of her leaders would move forward without issue. Gentle, she leaned forward, brushing a paw to Callyope's chest. As if to soothe the stars of nervous energy she could sense burning in the other woman. "You will make for a beautiful bride, Seiðkona." She exhales a soft sigh. "It would be my honor to share one with you.” “One of the oldest prayers is spoken to Lífbjörg, the goddess of life and protection,” Íruna began. “It is said to weave blessings for health, strength, and harmony into a household.” Her voice softened further as she recited: "Lífbjörg, móðir lífs og vörn landsins, gefðu styrk hjarta og hendur sem hlúa. Blessaðu húsið og þá sem það hlýja, með þinni náð og friði í öllum hlutum." She smiles, awaiting Callyope's reaction. "I know it is a lot to memorize at once. We can practice it as much as you need." RE: Alone—but not adrift - Callyope - December 26, 2024 a beautiful bride. she tried not be tearful! which she was beginning to realize felt like a feat! she blinked her amber eyes for a moment, her smile lingering on her features. Lífbjörg. she bound this name to her heart as she listened to the prayer spoken. indeed it would take much time to know how to say these words perfectly. she tired it, once or twice, with a bit of a sheepish smile. i would like to know these words so that i may whisper them to Hárkonungr.an almost girlish play at her voice now! i would like you to help me in all preparations for our union! you should be decorated for such, too. she thought of what pelt might look best along the other woman's shoulders. RE: Alone—but not adrift - Iruna - December 29, 2024 íruna’s smile grew at callyope’s reaction, warmth filling her lavender gaze. she could see the emotions brimming in the other woman’s amber eyes, and it filled her with a quiet sense of pride. “you will learn them,” írúna assured her gently. “and when the time comes, hárkonungr will hear them and know they are spoken with love and devotion.” she paused, her tail swaying softly behind her. her composure relaxes for a moment. “i would be honored to help you prepare,” she says, dipping her head slightly. “whatever you need, i will see it done.” she tilted her head, catching the thoughtful look on callyope’s face, and arched a brow, her smile faint but curious. “and decorated, you say?” she mused, a soft teasing lilt to her tone. “do you have something specific in mind, seiðkona?" RE: Alone—but not adrift - Callyope - December 29, 2024 i wish to see you with the finest pelt laid upon your shoulders that day. yes, yes it was callyope's wedding but...she wished to bring honor to her treasured one too. treasured! the thought had come so seamlessly that she nearly blushed. perhaps i will crush dried lavender and have it dusted over you too.she did not think it would stay with much movement or winter winds. yet she imagined how divine the seer would look if it came off her in colorful ways behind her trail. you need say only the animal and i will send hunters for it, so that the pelt may be prepared for you by then. RE: Alone—but not adrift - Iruna - December 30, 2024 íruna listens, her lavender gaze steady on callyope, though the faintest flicker of amusement dances in her eyes. the finest pelt, she echoes softly, tilting her head slightly. it sounds like you have thought of everything, seiðkona. she shifts her weight, her tail swaying faintly behind her as she considers callyope’s offer. as for the pelt, there’s no need to send hunters on my account. but if it brings you joy, then… perhaps something of the snow. a white fox or hare. their pelts are soft and pure, fitting for such a celebration. her gaze softens slightly, the quiet strength in her voice unwavering. your wedding is a time for you to shine, callyope. if i can bring honor to you and your union, then that is enough. RE: Alone—but not adrift - Callyope - January 01, 2025 white fox. snow hares. she thinks of how many they might need or how far hunters might walk to find such. your presence and devotion is honor enough.her face shines with her hope, her happiness. luck had kissed her when it gave her forneskja, when it gave her these wise women. by the time children come to our hearth, she wonders how much life forneskja will see in the spring. how many homes might hear the babbling of babies or laughter of newlyweds. i wish to be near fluent in his tongue. in honor of his past and our merging future. will you help me with this? vows were one thing. grasping the complexity of a whole new language? she had a foot up on the situation, but it still might take much work. RE: Alone—but not adrift - Iruna - January 01, 2025 of course, seiðkona,íruna replies, a warm smile upon silver face. she reaches to brush paw to her sister's shoulder, a steady gesture. it would be my honor to help you. our tongue will become the language of your future, and i will see to it that you learn it well. it is, truly, her honor. though íruna’s demeanor is often measured, there is something about callyope’s joy that softens her. she can imagine it now—the hearth filled with warmth, the air alive with the sounds of new life and union. it is a future worth working toward, worth protecting. you are wise to honor his roots,íruna adds, her tone thoughtful. it will strengthen the bond you share as his wife, and it will show the gods your devotion not only to him but to the path they have laid before you. RE: Alone—but not adrift - Callyope - January 22, 2025 fade? <3
she is warm and flushed beneath pale furs. he has honored mine. he paid a bride price, he has bowed his head to my sunshine mother and father. he has done everything they ask — no matter that he is not of sunshine ways. but she loved his northern ones. adored how he was colored in hues of the brightest autumn and yet filled with the understanding of winter ways. learning his words is only the start of what i mean to do for him, for our future. |
