For @Safiya! Backdated a bit, and set for right outside of Aka's borders
The winter-brittle grass crackled beneath the dog's paws as he wandered the barren landscape. Nothing, nothing, and more nothing—quite unlike the verdant terrain surrounding the cenote. The early morning light had barely begun its slow ascent, nothing more than a pale rim light against distant mountains. Perhaps that was why his eyes missed the rounded shape nestled among the frost-laden ground until his paw brushed against it.
Intrigued, Machi crouched, unfurling the rabbit-pelt he carried for such occasions. Gently probing one of the bulbs from the earth, he split the orb in two, revealing dark, ink-stained flesh within.
Curious.

Safiya did not leave much anymore. Preferring to train her body again. She would not allow her handicap to keep her from her true purpose. She would not.
But today she found herself following in the paw steps of Machi. Her beastie. She was using it as a training exercise. Honing in on his whereabouts with her other senses. And she finally found him with a smile.
