And the blisters on my lips - Calfuray - December 29, 2024 She imagined that in the warm seasons this lake would be a good spot to hunt, but for now it was frozen over and frankly rather useless to Calfuray. She had no use for ice. But what was she to do now? Lifting her nose, she checked for surrounding scents. Nothing of interest. If she was in the path of any prey, then she must be downwind. They would be gone soon. Briefly her stomach had been satisfied, but she had to wonder just how long that would last. Her leg was still weak, still needed rest, and she knew better than to push it. She was on her own; if the limp were to become permanent then there would be nobody to help her. Grunting, she lowered herself to the ground to lay with her leg out to the side. RE: And the blisters on my lips - Rala - December 29, 2024 rala had trekked a ways away from the valley, deciding on heading back to the lake to see if it had made any progress in freezing over. the ducks that lingered were those that were too injured to fly with the rest of the flock - so perhaps she could catch herself an easy meal, too. even the thought of duck-meat made saliva pool in her throat. her scent, now swathed in bearclaw valley, blew forwards in the slow breeze. she walked downwind, now, and the huntress's skin crawled as she did. she had always learnt that walking downwind was how one invited strangers to attack, but she did it nonetheless, as there was no other way to get to the lake from upwind, unless she came from the taiga. a dark swath of fur was spottable on the horizon, now, lowering themselves down to the ground, and so rala adopted a trot in her step, drawing closer. the patch of fur then became a figure, one that she recognised, remembered, and so her speed increased, going from trot to canter. her tail swayed behind her as she went, and once within shouting-distance, she would call: calfuray!a smile wide upon her features. she knew they would meet again. RE: And the blisters on my lips - Calfuray - December 29, 2024 Ears perked, the head of the scarred woman tuning to spot the source of a familiar voice. At the sight of Rala she released a breath; one she did not quite realise she had been holding onto. The snow-coated woman was a friendly face, and Calfuray was glad for it. She was not quite sure she was up for a fight now. Silent, she waited for her to make her approach from where Cal sat in the snow with her short tail waving absent-mindedly. RE: And the blisters on my lips - Rala - December 29, 2024 her speed, although on short legs, brought her forwards, drawing in until she was close enough to speak, and therefore she slowed. should the snowwoman be allowed, she would bring her nose to calfuray's cheek, greeting the dark lady and settling to sit nearby. conversation would flow from her lips with ease: how have you been? eyes quickly flicked to where the wound had taken place. how is your leg? RE: And the blisters on my lips - Calfuray - December 29, 2024 Rala soon joined her, pressing a cold nose to Calfuray's cheek. A brief touch, but one she found herself longing for once it was gone. I'm alright, my leg is doing better.A little white lie, and it flowed from her lips with ease. And you? Has the hunting been good?A common question in her own home, an indirect way to ensure the other was eating well - or not. The intention of the question could go either way. There were new scents intermingled with the snow-coated woman's own, and it put a tilt into Cal's head. RE: And the blisters on my lips - Rala - December 29, 2024 a lie she would not yet detect, as it seemed to at least look better, much less red, than it had been when rala had first found the woman. she did not know, yet, of the limp that seemed to accompany it, and so she would respond: ah, i am glad! hunting has been well, she answered, understanding the intention that came with the question. there was a similar saying in her homeland: 'ox katakvaa ilingnut?' meaning, 'do the ox fall for you?' - a way of asking how they had been eating ; for, if they were full, they were strong, less susceptible to disease. prey are slow from winter. soon, though, i worry that they may become sparser. few and far between.a hum. a tilt of cal's head brought a smile upon her face. i am with pack, now, snowwoman explained the mingle of scents on her pelt. she suspected that the strongest, thus far, would be reminiscent of @Tvar. bearclaw valley, it is called. not too far. her implications were clear ; she would be more than happy to bring cal back with her. RE: And the blisters on my lips - Calfuray - December 29, 2024 Now Rala spoke of a pack, and Calfuray found that her heart sank - yet she did not understand why. Wolves came and went, joined packs and then left - there was no reason to be upset over an acquaintance. A pack, huh?She raised a brow, eyes settling between her own paws. Hope they treat you well. She was not sure what else there was to say to such news. They wouldn't have much of a chance of bumping into each other soon enough, the scarred woman assumed. Standing now, she nudges Rala's shoulder with her own. I should get going.Food is elsewhere, and that is what Cal knows to follow. Maybe she'll take the time to visit sooner or later. Taking off at a trot, she does what she can to hide the limp in her step. RE: And the blisters on my lips - Rala - December 29, 2024 her words did not seem to meet positive reception. calfuray stood, now, and so rala would too. her brows were drawn together, a frown upon her face as she watched the dark woman attempt to take her leave. her leg, now, would go noticed: calfuray, you are limping, snowwoman said, walking up to the woman, trying to nose her flank to encourage her to stop. to just take a moment to rest. please do not go, calfuray. let me take care of you. RE: And the blisters on my lips - Calfuray - December 29, 2024 Rala follows. Maybe it should have been expected; the woman was far too good to simply let her go. Calfuray could not understand it, so she only sighs. There are others who need your care, Rala. She speaks in an attempt to reassure; her tone firm. I have lived like this all my life, and I'm still here. Let me go.Her expressions softens. An unfamiliar appearance, but it settles on her with ease all the same. RE: And the blisters on my lips - Rala - December 29, 2024 i will always be around, if you need me,rala promised, a frown upon her face. calfuray was a friend who she did not want to see leaving so soon, but rala knew that it was not up to her whether the woman left or not. promise me that we will speak again?her tail was low by her hocks, still, lacking its usual sway. rala would let her go, but it would be painful, like ripping bandages from skin. RE: And the blisters on my lips - Calfuray - December 29, 2024 She says nothing now. Soft eyes remain on the woman for a moment longer before she turns away. Her gait resumes, Calfuray walking until she is merely a dark spot in the distance. |
