[wp] upyakkaa ⟺ - Kukutux - January 17, 2025

"@Solharr." moonwoman greeted the northman of fornesjka sometime after the rolling festivities had come to a gentler sound. cold night was pierced by laughter, by song; voices hooted and somewhere she heard ipiktok's baritone.

her small worn teeth gleamed. "now i may call you ninauga. marriage-son."

brushing her shoulder against what of his she might reach, kukutux nodded toward the throng of celebrating wolves.

"you have done well. there is happiness in moonglow and in forneskja this night."

her words were gentle, but carried the weight of her respect and approval. they were words not given lightly, and he received them with a humble dip of his muzzle.

ninauga, he echoed, letting the word settle on his tongue like a prayer. then i am grateful for what you have provided—your daughter, the herbs, the light that shines upon us tonight.

he allowed a small, rare smile to touch his lips, a flicker of something softer in the presence of the elder. what am i to call you, then, moonwoman? his tone was sincere, a quiet reverence threading his words. for as your ninauga, it would not do to call you simply by what i hear from others.

"the word which sunshine has is called saki," she explained gently to him. "is there such a sound in the tongue which you speak?" kukutux asked after a moment, wishing to offer the exchange of other importances while she was here with him.

his continued respect toward not only herself but toward moonglow had been something lacked by kigipigak; she found herself awash once more with regret for how she had treated the winterhawk and even ariadne.

Sedna had punished her for it, and kukutux wished to never invite such penance upon the sunshine people again, upon the name of nuiruk.

the weight of her words sinking into the quiet spaces between them. after a moment, he inclined his head, his voice low.

no such word exists, he admitted. but we have something close. sólkveðja. it means... ‘greeting of the sun.’

his gaze lingered on her, an unspoken respect emanating from his posture. perhaps it is fitting for this moment, no? he added softly, a rare warmth flickering in his tone.

this word! but in a show of goodwill did kukutux attempt, three times until the sound was made. "sólkveðja." halting and cupped by her own accent; the duck beamed all the same.

"it is fitting."

as was this man who had come to them, to live beside them, and not for the first time did kukutux favor him with a knowing look upon her face.

sólhárr watched as the moonwoman shaped his name with her tongue, each attempt drawing the edges of his mouth into something near a smile. not mockery—no, he would not mock a woman of such standing—but something softer, something amused.

it is fitting, she said.

his golden eye lingered on her, keen and knowing. it is good you think so, moonwoman.

his voice was low, edged with the respect her station deserved. he had known of her long before he had ever set foot in her village. whispers of a woman who wove marriages as deftly as she did stories, who saw the future in the bones she cast. his wife carried her blood, and that was no small thing.

you have given me a strong wife. i will see that she never wants for anything. it was a vow as much as a statement. he owed this woman that much. his gaze did not waver, nor did the quiet steel in his voice.

a pause, thoughtful. you are mother to many. will you be there when they are born?

RE: [wp] upyakkaa ⟺ - Kukutux - February 16, 2025

her eyes shone with the hope and joy of that, though in the manner of a properly raised sunshine woman, kukutux did not raise her voice. "i have a strong wish that callyope wishes me close. and that you do, also. i will be here if i am wanted."

she wanted to insist! to wonder why solharr even asked? did he not know how many grandchildren had been born? but she was not offended, and smiled in gentle approval at the way he always spoke of callyope with such careful love.

"tell me, do you wish for sons or daughters?" kukutux asked, wanting to bring them now to sweeter things.

RE: [wp] upyakkaa ⟺ - Solharr - February 17, 2025

his smile came easily, warm against the crisp air. his single golden eye softened, thoughts turning to callyope—his wife, his light.

i wish for what callyope wants, he rumbled, voice thick with affection and pride. daughters of the moon, sons as strong as rams.

he pictured them—soft-furred girls, clever and bright like their mother, and stouthearted boys who would grow into the strength of their father.

his gaze found kukutux again, grateful. it is good you are here. she will need you. and so would he, though he left that unsaid.

RE: [wp] upyakkaa ⟺ - Kukutux - February 21, 2025

"i am happy to be needed." kukutux knew she was not only a woman of age; she knew she was mother and moonwoman. and though she had wished by this time to be retired from leadership, it seemed that Sedna did not share the same idea.

"if there is teaching i can give to the wolves of forneskja, then i will make a healing-camp here, when the time has come." there was reason much to share her knowledge, the least of which was the fact that moonglow did not yet have one to inherit.

RE: [wp] upyakkaa ⟺ - Solharr - February 24, 2025

there will always be a place for you here, sólhárr rumbled, his voice a steady warmth against the cold.

his blue-gold gaze settled on her with quiet reverence. kukutux was more than a woman of age, more than a mother—she was wisdom, tradition, the bridge between what was and what must be.

when the time comes, we will make space for your teachings. your knowledge is a gift, one we will not waste.

he dipped his head slightly, a rare gesture of deference. moonglow and forneskja walk the same path. you will always have a home beneath these stars.

RE: [wp] upyakkaa ⟺ - Kukutux - February 27, 2025

"i see what my daughter seeks with her eyes in you," kukutux said after a moment of formality had passed. she believed him, for he had proven his resolution many times. and moreover, he had given her the respect due her rank, always.

for a moment she grew still and straight, lowering eyes in the manner of her upbringing; the sunshine women from which she had come were demure. submissive. and while kukutux had outgrown both aspects, she was not without her memory.

for a moment, she and solharr simmered in a recollection of her own: a siqniq woman offering the soft downturn of her eyes in a way that said he was quite seen.

but the illusion was quickly dispelled. "i must go and find ipiktok," came a gentle sigh, a smile. "i have another marriage to make."

RE: [wp] upyakkaa ⟺ - Solharr - March 06, 2025

solharr's gaze lingered upon her with quiet warmth, the edges of his maw lifting in the barest hint of a smile, rare and earned. there was always something about kukutux that reminded him of a season long passed—an old summer he could not quite name, but whose light he still felt on his back.

then may the winds carry you swift to him, he murmured, his voice low as the evening tide. and may the marriage be as strong as your name.

his pale gaze held hers, thoughtful and sincere, and then drifted down in mirrored respect, not as a chieftain, but as a man who recognized her as both mother and matchmaker, worthy of his regard.
