Queen Anne's Revenge - Nox - March 05, 2025

vague! no rush to reply. anyone else is welcome depending on what raid outcome you'd like your character to have <3
@Mireille @Chacal

In the southernmost foothills of the ridge nestled Murkwood's camp, rising proud above the bleeding sequoias like a ship's mast in a sea of dark water. Bones littered the clearing, torn hides and remnants of stolen caches, and in the caves to the rear there lay the pirate's most precious bounty of all.

Sea wenches. He didn't trust them not to run, and the Captain personally made sure all were kept under near round-the-clock supervision until he'd figured out what they were worth. Nox returned home dragging a generously sized deer haunch, tail waving in @Meredith's direction, an invitation should the First Mate wish to inspect their captives too.

"Eat." Dinner, deposited and shoved unceremoniously forward with an inky paw, his lamplike eyes gazed into the darkness beyond.

heartbreak stabbed forward. mireille could not sacrifice her focus for heart. maman, her boy had said! but it was the rage that was muse overwhelming, the audacity of men to not only touch them, but to drag the leadership from the cliffs entire.
she carried young and surely did her sister. chani she suspected. three then, three who held the future of sapphique inside them.
would their children be suffered to live? mireille did not trust that. they had been taken to a series of caves and guarded, an ugly place too far from the sea.
the obsidian did not touch the offered food, stepping with determined ire between the pirate and her own relatives. "what will you be doin' wid us?" she demanded quietly, no breaking in her emerald eyes. for the others she would have calm, but each moment of captivity made that difficult.

RE: Queen Anne's Revenge - Meredith - March 05, 2025

meredith watched the captain’s return from beneath the hood of her lashes, perched where the dimming light caught faint against her golden fur. the scent of blood on the haunch stirred her stomach, but it was the glint in nox’s eyes that drew her attention first—something unspoken passed between them, as it often did. she'd seen him like this before: calculating, watchful, one ear always cocked toward opportunity.

she rose, slow and easy, padding over on light feet. the captives were shadows in the caves, all sharp gazes and tighter shoulders. and the one who stepped forward—brave little thing—earned herself a rare flicker of interest from meredith.

she tilted her head, considering mireille with the same mild amusement she might offer a pup who snapped too hard at a game. ah, now there’s a voice. soft, dry, nearly teasing. was wondering when you’d use it.

meredith’s gaze cut to the others huddled in the dark, then back to the obsidian woman with her fierce, sea-colored stare. she admired it, in some quiet, begrudging way. the spit of it. but admiration didn’t mean mercy.

RE: Queen Anne's Revenge - Chani - March 07, 2025

cameo!

like matant, chani had not allowed herself to show fear nor anything less than pride. she stayed firmly beside chacal, lifting a lip if any pirate came too near.
when mireille rose to approach, chani tensed. the words of the young woman scathed her; she straightened coldly.
but if her aunt had not accepted fighting on the cliffs, she would not accept it now. wisely, chani was silent, though her hateful glower said all she might.

RE: Queen Anne's Revenge - Nox - March 10, 2025

A woman emerged, the same who'd offered herself in place of the measly boy. Nox had not bothered to ask their names nor glean information into the specifics of their relations to one another, but it was clear all three were close.

It was unwise, perhaps, to keep them here where they could speak freely to one another lest they get any ideas. But the Captain hoped their stint in the cave would make them malleable and obedient.

His claws clicked on stone as he moved nearer to glower upon her scarlet face. "I believe ye'v got somethin' I want." To her belly he gazed, the roundness unmistakeable. Children, unborn as they were, did not talk back and would be easy to whip seashape.

"When I trust y'ain't gonna do a runner, my crew'll make sure yer huntin' for us in tha meantime. This food gotta come from somewhere." Tail flicking, he spared a glance to the younger - Crowell's girl - to Meredith, before his gaze returned harshly to the woman. "Or there be a worse fate waitin' for ya." They'd chase her, hunt her, tear her to shreds like the plump sow she was if she refused to submit.

RE: Queen Anne's Revenge - Mireille - March 10, 2025

the girl, for that was what she was despite any attempts to seem adult, was fixed with a stare only a mother might be able to give. scathing mingled with disgust, but mireille was sure to communicate a fair amount of pity as well. it was pathetic and she would not have wanted to see any of her daughters or nieces in that one's place.
dismissing the girl with a roll of her shoulder, mireille focused on the captain. he himself was young, a violent boy playing at being a man. the antithesis of her sons.
of val.
"you didnae know we were pregnant when you came. and remember dat you struck me right where dey sleep," the obsidian said with unruffled calm. "children be very fragile, captain. if any'tin' were to happen, it would be you responsible."
she went on, swiftly. "i will hunt de waters. give me a guard an' i will go dis very day."
were her children on the seacliffs safe?

RE: Queen Anne's Revenge - Meredith - March 10, 2025

meredith stood beside nox, silent but ever watchful.

the cave stank of salt, damp stone, and the quiet reek of defiance. the red-faced woman carried herself with an air of calm she had no right to.

too steady. too proud.

meredith’s golden fur caught the dim light as she shifted, keen eyes flicking between the swollen curve of mireille’s belly and the sharpness in her gaze. pregnant or not, the woman did not tremble, did not beg. she was playing a game.

nox’s words hung in the air, heavy with warning, but mireille met them without fear. meredith’s jaw tightened at the look the woman gave her—scornful. pitying. dismissive.

as if she were above this. above them.

fine. let her think that.

meredith rolled a shoulder, slow, deliberate. her voice, when it came, was low and even. i’ll take her.

she met nox’s gaze for confirmation, but there was no question in it. mireille would not slip away. she would hunt, she would pull her weight—or she would learn the consequences.

RE: Queen Anne's Revenge - Nox - March 17, 2025

Her words infuriated him. "Shoulda stood down when I offered peace the first time, aye?" scathing, biting. "Yer kids ain't mine and they ain't my responsibility. If somethin' turns out wrong with 'em, that's on you." How dare she accuse him when it was she who'd rebelled! Nox knew very little about children and their development, nor how delicate a gravid mother was, and perhaps that would be his downfall. But the captain was nothing if not a greedy bastard and as far as he was concerned, this was not his mess to fix.

Still seething, he was glad then for Meredith's distraction. "Fine, take her. Get her outta my sight." He'd settle only once the red bitch brought him a fine catch. Dipping his head in finality towards the First Mate, he stalked bristling from the cave and back to his quarters to stew.

but they were. they were his responsibility, for better or for worse. born to his forest, born to his dubious leadership. but mireille had provoked the reaction she wanted from the ignorant little boy, and did not react to his anger.
she had put him out, and was pleased to see him reduced to emotional displays.
there was no glance for her young guardian. mireille started her walk in the direction of the nearest path that might bring them to the sea, choosing to find it rather than assume it existed.
self-assured without. burning with rage within.
