maigo - Shinjou - March 25, 2025

Flexible timeline
Nightingale?

The further he ventured into these lands, the more they seemed uninhabitable. Here, there was nothing resembling his small island life. He missed the shores, and even more, the briny air. As for the customs, they held no particular longing for him.

Yet, it seemed that, between two gusts of wind, he could catch the faintest trace of sea salt. The coasts were never far, yet he could not seem to draw closer to them.

なんてこった! he muttered in a low, rumbling voice. Shinjou was accustomed to outwardly expressing emotions when alone—emotions he carefully guarded when in the company of others.

RE: maigo - Nightingale - April 03, 2025

The Nightingale had lost track of @Hatsu and the others of their little traveling group to this new world. A great, big, booming place of wolves and yet, Nightingale never had felt more alone. Felt more lost. She was used to living in a house of many women. Many eyes and ears and unfortunately, mouths at all times.

Nightingale was alone. Not being told who to dance for, to sing for, to escort. Alone... What now?

The Nightingale strode. Then - a voice, a shout! And with the language of her people. Nightingale tried her best not to rush, as it was not her to rush for anyone, yet her excitement seemed to get the best of her. It was a man, a man who shared her people's words.

困ってますか? She comes, yet stops at a distance for her own safety. Her eyes narrowed with questioning (her perpetual look). None the less, he was still a stranger to her.

RE: maigo - Shinjou - April 04, 2025

He had not been troubled—at least, not until the beautiful stranger revealed herself to him. A woman of his culture, or so it seemed—at the very least, she spoke his tongue. The man in the black hood had merely smiled as he stepped toward her.

I hadn’t seen you there, Lady...? He paused, clearly expecting her name, while his gaze lingered—studying her without much effort to conceal it.

Truth be told, I got myself lost... It’s a bit embarrassing.
He gave a soft laugh, head bowed, feigning a sheepish air.

You're far from our island, he remarked, almost as a certainty. What brings you here, alone? It’s no place for a lady—far too dangerous, he added, casting a wary glance around them.

RE: maigo - Nightingale - April 06, 2025

He turns, a smile. Nightingale's arrogance blossoms in this moment. The truth of her actual self insecurity buried deeply. It is good to hear the words of her people, even if they were not from the same lands. Then again, maybe they had not grown too far apart, either.

His sentence trails and the courtesan offers a proper bow before him - one forleg sliding forward while the other tucks to her chest as she drops her upper half. Nightingale, Sama. She would lift then there after.

He speaks of their island. Nightingale does not correct. It is improper to do so, especially of a man that she expects to be a warrior of their people. She is a jealous, spiteful and vindictive woman. Especially among other courtesan. They were competition, after all. Before him and given her predicament, she is a perfect lady.

I was a part of a small group lead by the lady @Hatsu. She explained. We worked to create a new establishment within the healing waters. A pause, a pout. I do not know where they have gone. I fear I am alone. Had they LEFT her!? Possibly so. She was not quite friendly to any of them.

RE: maigo - Shinjou - April 07, 2025

A place he might have dreamed of frequenting—especially if all the women there were even half as beautiful as the one seated before him. A lady who spoke his tongue, and yet whose name rang with such foreign resonance. Shinjou was taken aback. Was she not one of their own? Perhaps it was a name chosen to charm foreigners. Though well-versed in the language of the gaijin, he found himself reluctant to even attempt pronouncing it. Naitin Garu. A curious name indeed.

I’m sorry to hear that. Truly sorry, he might have added, but his expression spoke well enough on his behalf. A weary gaze, ears folded low, and head bowed—he wore the look of a man quietly disappointed. I could have used a bit of rest after such a long journey. I must say, I’m rather impressed to hear that women made their way here unaccompanied. Or had they been accompanied, after all? He tilted an ear, listening for the answer.

But... if solitude troubles you so, Naitin Garu-san, He’d dared to say it. I would be glad to offer my company. His sly smile was thinly veiled—Shinjou was a poor deceiver.

I mean to say, as a samurai, I cannot in good conscience leave one of our own in such circumstances. How noble. I’m heading toward the coast. You could travel with me—or meet me there, if you feel like it. And with that, he inclined his head in a gesture of respect.

RE: maigo - Nightingale - April 12, 2025

She was, in fact, not of their kind. An orphan. An outsider. It was a wonder that she had ever become more then servant. Though, with how she was raised to be everything as a woman should be in her culture, she had learned it all well. Had mastered it. Manipulated it. It was only the name of Nightingale which she carried that stood out among others. She had meant it to. Wanted it to. She would not allow herself to be hidden to the shadows among other courtesan. She must be perfection.

Yes. It was an incredible effort, sama. She dips her head low. By now they could have had a proper place among the hot springs. They could have already been drawing in customers within the region. Those who might find the offerings of the foreign women quite exotic and pleasing. No matter. It only meant Nightingale would draw in all the attention herself. Alot of work. It would have to do, for now.

When he offers his own company there is a smile- a sly and cunning one, as sultry eyes of pale purple and silver, look up at him with want. She wants him to believe she needed him.... maybe she did?

A samurai? Her ears perked forward, her head lifting for her gaze to meet his scarred own. Then her head falls again, ears sweeping back as she offers her respect before the paws of the warrior. He was not a man overwhelming impressive to look at and the heavily scarring to his face did not help. Yet he was stout and fit. A man of heavy, grounded build. She would be foolish not to stand at his side.

This is most gracious of you, sama. It would give me great pleasure to accompany you on your travels. And yet...She lifts back to her full height. One of long legs holding up a slim figure of sharp angles. May I have the name of the one now at my side? Yet her eyes remain cast from him, not looking into his gaze directly.

RE: maigo - Shinjou - April 21, 2025

Woops! Sorry for the wait!

She knew how to speak to Shinjou. A simple man—a samurai whose code of honor could all too easily be swayed by the fluttering lashes of the women from his homeland. And she, a woman who clearly knew how to deal with men, having openly admitted to being part of a collective of working women. The black-hooded samurai needed no more than that to be taken in; sweet words only served to flatter his ego further. She appeared well-bred, obliging, and above all, she recognized his status as a samurai.

Shinjou had smiled, unable to conceal the pride that lit up his face.

You're right! I haven’t introduced myself. What a terrible oversight on my part... He laid his ears flat and bowed his head, hoping it would suffice to earn her forgiveness. I am Shinjou Hirohiko, of Kōdaina tochi! he declared at last.

I wouldn’t wish to rush you, Naitin Garu-san, he added gently, drawing nearer, secretly amused by the double meanings laced in his words, all while maintaining his usual mask of naivety.

Are you prepared to travel now? She had already traveled a long way before they met—if so, she would surely wish for a moment’s rest.

RE: maigo - Nightingale - April 25, 2025

Perfectly fine!

At last, an introduction! Her head falls as he speaks his name and origin, her tail swaying low along the grasses between her legs.

It is my deepest pleasure to meet you, Shinjou Hirohiko- sama. Lifting her head once more up, her eyes of purple and silver hue seek. There was no other around them yet. It was a last effort to see if those she had traveled with might magically sprung up from the brush.

Alas, they did not. I am ready.
