daffodil - Seal - March 28, 2025

It was a beautiful spring day. The birds sang, and squirrels chirped, and the buds on the trees began to turn pink.

However, Seal had noticed something strange.

"@Chaudry?" she called when she found the Grand Gurrier. "Have you seen Pala? I cannae find her."

Seal came to him during a patrol asking after Pala. His leg was still marked with her teeth, the wound scabbed over along with the claw marks that had followed down his torso.

She left. His response was blunt and left much to be desired, but it was the truth. Julienne is in my den, she took our sons with her. This fact he had no issue mentioning, but he would not mention that it was upon his order that she did this. He intended to make her look bad, to ensure that if she were to return that she would be scorned by the others.

Left? she repeated, taken aback. It was then her eyes trailed down Chaudry’s leg and saw his fresh wound.

But Seal didn’t know which was the bigger emergency - the fact that Chaudry was injured or the fact that Pala had abandoned the pack and her daughter. Pala’s pups were just infants! How could she survive alone with two of them? And what about Julienne?

Unaware Chaudry was the sire, Seal did not know how a daughter could thrive without her mother.

“That doesnae make any sense,” she said as her brows knit with concern. Things just didn’t add up.

“Why did she leave? What happened?” she asked, trusting Chaudry. “Is Julienne okay?”

Seal questioned him, and he supposed it was fair. He kept his response calm, smooth. Tousaint had taught him well.

She had her litter with me thinking it would get her on my maman's good side. It was technically true, after all. It was what he had used to convince her. But maman had a daughter too, and she did not make Julienne her heir. I would not help her change this, so she left.

Had he been a more intriguing storyteller, maybe he would have made her out to be a raging beast. That was how he planned to describe her to Julienne as she grew, anyways. Julienne is weaned enough, she can eat chewed meat. I will raise my daughter just fine. Though it did feel strange, he had to admit. The mother pack had never seen a child raised without a mother of it's own; women were the centre of Montagne life, and therefore crucial in the lives of their children. He did not quite have the same feminine touch.

He could only hope that maman would take pity.
