湖 - Ryūjirō - April 02, 2025 AW!
ryūjirō stands at the edge of the lake, his reflection a stark contrast against the shimmering water. the stillness of the morning mirrors the stillness within him, an unspoken focus that fills the space around him like a suffocating fog. his amber eyes scan the water, the quiet ripples breaking the surface as if answering some unasked question. the wind stirs his black fur, brushing against the pale mask of his face. he does not move, not yet; the serenity of the lake, the weight of silence, holds him in place, as if the very act of breathing might disturb the peace he has learned to cultivate. every muscle in his body is taut with waiting, his mind sharpening like the edge of a blade. RE: 湖 - Masa - April 02, 2025 why are you here, brother?voice a rasp, eyes pulling firm upon the man of dark furs and pale mask. he appears a spectre, moving from dark brush that blooms with the spring. dull tourmaline eyes awash over the man he has not seen in what has been a year. the only man who has understood honor in the way that masa has. a blade, quick, cutting. undying in his loyalties, but having fled the nest which coveted them both once. masa cuts now; a katana, slicing through wind and earth, coming to stop a ways from the son of akashita. is there news from the capital?a flicker of concern tightening his jaw. tell me, otōto. it must be urgent, if he has sent you so far. his only heir remains abroad, and you are the last son within the isles. RE: 湖 - Ryūjirō - April 02, 2025 ![]()
he stands firm, his eyes meeting his brother's with quiet resolve. sickness, masa. it spread through the land like a shadow, taking many with it. father sent me away.his gaze hardens, the concern in his eyes hidden beneath a layer of calm. he took in the darkness of his brother's coat; how he has not changed. though he witheld the urge to reach out to him, it did cross his mind. the shock to find him here—! there are no more sons upon the isle.perhaps it was guilt that stretched across his face. a scarce attitude within the senshi. RE: 湖 - Masa - April 02, 2025 there is a breath drawn. a hitch within his throat, as disbelief falls upon the hardened face of the often monotone samurai. then, it is gone. it is hardened. walls falling sharp, raised upright—and masa reaffirms in himself what is the meaning of to go forwards. there is silence and several seconds of pause that consumes—then he moves. coming to stand before his younger brother, pressing nose to the forehead of the shadow. he parts as swift as the touch had been dealt, turning upon thick shoulders, letting his eyes fall upon the lands that stretch out. then it is grim, is it not?masa asks. sōryū-no-kuni has fallen.a stillness consuming a dark soul. samurai lowers his head, a foreleg moving, a paw unearthing topsoil. we are what remains of the akashita. RE: 湖 - Ryūjirō - April 02, 2025 ![]()
disbelief flickers across his face, but it’s gone almost as quickly as it arrived. the weight of what has been lost settles on him, suffocating, unyielding. masa's touch on his forehead is brief, but it grounds him for a second, a fleeting connection before the silence stretches between them once more. swallowed by the tide,ryūjirō finally says, his voice is low. barely audible. his eyes remain fixed ahead, but there’s a hard edge to his gaze, a flicker of something cold in his chest. but we’re still standing. for now.his words are quiet, but heavy with the weight of everything that has come before—and everything they must now carry. unless they do not. it got worse after you were gone. RE: 湖 - Masa - April 02, 2025 then i should not have left. the words come slow. a raw thing, scraped from the inside of his throat. there is no excuse in his tone—only quiet admission. i followed orders. i carried out the will of hikone-sama. yet i failed to see the storm in his shadow.a pause. the wind drags across their pelts, carrying the weight of the east. i sought honor in exile. i did not think it would cost us everything. RE: 湖 - Ryūjirō - April 03, 2025 ![]()
the wind whispers through the trees, but neither of them speaks for a moment. ryūjirō's gaze drifts over the landscape, the memories of what they've lost pressing down on him like a stone. we all followed orders,he murmurs, his voice low and edged with regret. we were blind to the cost.he shifts slightly, his posture stiffening. where've you been holding up then, senshi?he looks at his brother, wondering why he smells of other wolves; an unrecognizable conglomerate of scent he couldn't discern from here nor there. he wonders, too, what kind of place could hold him so fiercely that he smells of pack. not a clan. a pack. is that what they do here? RE: 湖 - Masa - April 03, 2025 i have not held up. only moved forward.voice like flint struck against steel. eyes cold as old ash. i walk under no banner. no crest. he exhales once through his nose, slow. but the moonwoman of moonglow offered shelter. i honored her house by taking a contract. i will finish it, and then i will move again. i will find her. masa finally turns to face him. and i will kill her. i will bring honor to our father one last time.the faintest trace of dryness in his tone. and you, otōto? did you think to find me here? RE: 湖 - Ryūjirō - April 04, 2025 ![]()
ryūjirō’s expression hardens, but there’s a flicker of hesitation in his amber eyes, a quiet doubt lingering beneath his usually steadfast demeanor. honor,he murmurs, almost questioning the word, as if testing its weight. i’ve walked a long road, masa-aniki. one where honor has often been elusive, twisted into something unrecognizable.he exhales slowly, the tension in his chest palpable. what is your contract?his gaze shifts, searching his brother’s face for an answer, as though seeking the certainty he himself is struggling to find. what could his brother be tasked to do? anything, he'd imagined. both sellswords not afraid to do any bidding for the right price. he would do the same if the opportunity arose. didn't think i'd find you anywhere, ani. thought you'd be dead. RE: 湖 - Masa - April 04, 2025 the moonwoman of moonglow gave me a name. cen. a man who was punished for what he did to his wife. masa speaks with quiet precision, each word like a drawn blade. she feared he walks now against her with violence in his heart. i was to find him. seek his motives. i have learned and now i return to her. his eyes lower slightly, the wind brushing his face. then, he looks back to ryūjirō. after that… the trail leads again to her. the woman i spared. karavira. the order to kill her still stands. RE: 湖 - Ryūjirō - April 05, 2025 ![]()
ryūjirō listens in silence, the weight of masa's words settling on his chest like a stone. his amber eyes gleam with a cold understanding, and though his posture remains relaxed, there is a tightening in his chest at the mention of karavira. a woman spared, and yet you speak of her death still,he says, voice low, calculated. what you do next... that is where your true test lies.he pauses, lips curling slightly. if the order stands, you will follow it. if it doesn’t, you must be prepared to face what comes after.his gaze drifts briefly, distant. the moonwoman’s trust—has it been worth the cost? RE: 湖 - Masa - April 05, 2025 he casts debating eye onto his brother then, a tome of silence overtaking. a bitterness in his mouth, but he cannot place it. the air around him feels different. masa gives no sign as to how he feels about it; raising a foreleg, then placing it down again, as he begins to walk. what cost?he asks. judging that his brother sees something that masa does not—but it is unlikely. the older one raises his chin, looking deftly and then cutting across, taking a new direction now. seeking to lead his brother back to the small group he has garnered. not possessions. allies. it is transaction, ryūjirō. she gives, i give in return. it ends soon. my path must go on. RE: 湖 - Ryūjirō - April 06, 2025 ![]()
before he nods slowly, his throat tight as he swallows down the bitter feeling gnawing at him. the question hangs in the air, and for a long moment, ryūjiro says nothing, the weight of his brother's words heavy in the space between them. there’s a quiet understanding in his eyes, but it’s the kind that feels more like a burden than a connection. he watches masa turn, his stance rigid as he moves with purpose, and the air around them shifts—there's no softness in his brother's resolve, no room for hesitation. the word transaction echoes in ryūjiro’s mind, a hollow ring to it, and yet he knows it’s the truth that runs between them, even if it cuts deeper than he'd like to admit. it’s always been that way,he mutters, his voice low, barely a whisper carried by the wind. and you will see it done. |
