The Kingsroad - Arrluk - April 04, 2025

For @Ajei, @Kukutux. Ebony, feel free to PP Aiolos coming with her.

Arrluk had been gone a whole lot longer then he would have ever imagined or have ever wanted to be. As it were, it wasn't that he didn't enjoy the open road, to see lands far beyond all what he had known. In fact, Arrluk did not mind at all the solitude for which he came with. It was family which called him back. Love, loyalty and duty which called him back. He wouldn't look back, either, as he tread towards the familiar stout mountains of home.

It was quieter then he had always remembered. Hunters on the scent, herbalists collecting, others along the river side cleaning and stretching hides. Arrluk was not greeted with these things when he came into Moonglow now. Settling down his catches, Arrluk sat down at the lake bed and called out for his parents. Called out for Ajei, at the forefront of his mind through the time which had seperated them.

Arrluk had brought the stouts and ermine after his venture to the Neverwinter forest, back when his sister was still present. Time with @Sobeille gave him seal and otter. Arrluk wore the scars of the elder sea otter on the side of his muzzle now. These two things were brought to Moonglow's doorstep as he passed, making way to Moonspear for the wolverine. It had not been an easy battle, but @Treepie had done well as a nimble distraction while Arrluk took bites to wear it down. Not without consequence, did tears at his chest and thigh leave still healing, pink wounds. To fade and be grown over by fur once more over time. Last he had collected the fish of Moontide and the roots of a grand willow. It was these two things he had carried today along with the wolverine pelt over his back.

Arrluk had been gone longer than she had anticipated. But she also understood. His mother had given him a large task. However, as his call came across the meadows. She shot up from her resting place and raced towards him. His journey into manhood had been longer, but yet this felt longer. Perhaps it was because his absence was more keenly felt.

Ajei could remember when there had been many faces and voices in Moonglow. But time had a way of stripping things away. She hoped they could grow regardless. That it would stand the test of time. Red paws tip tapped along the ground as she raced.

It was with a soft trilling call and a gentle laugh that she met Arrluk nose to nose. Green eyes blinking up at him. A small smile on her face.

Hello. She spoke breathlessly. Sides gently rolling to catch up to the hard run.

arrluk had come home.

kukutux closed her eyes in relief, turning to kiss the round jut of aiolos' shoulder. much work had demanded the attention and arts of moonglow, but never had they forgotten the effort of their son far beyond the protective domain of the wilderness.

together they stood, and she smiled with purest love and joy up into the adored face of her sun man before they moved to meet their son.

and ajei, it seemed. kukutux watched the young wolves greet one another, and in her heart her mind was made.

her eyes beheld the new scars upon arrluk's face, and she remembered when rodyn had come back to the village in hunting triumph and the fear of dismissal.

"speak to her, my son," moonwoman urged. "tell her all that is in your heart." she did not remind ajei that the choice was hers to refuse; this was known among moonglow, and arrluk would honor it.

already tears stood in her eyes, as she cast them with approval over his gifts and waited for the tall son of their hearth to speak for the one he had always loved.

Her voice is high with excitement and laughter. She is rushing into his direction and he begins trotting towards her. Their noses press, a single word from her lips as she catches her breath. Hello to you. He speaks with a sheepish grin, tail waving behind him. Damn it was nice seeing her again.

His parents came next. Not far as they made their way. Arrluk would leave Ajei only to greet both Moonwoman and Sunman, nudging them both at their cheeks and licking the chin of his mother. When she speaks, he turns back around to Ajei then. Arrluk was not a man of many words. He had never been. He takes in a breath and steps closer to the little fire and frost pelted woman now.

What is in my heart... He murmurs his mother's words, a hitch in his breath. It is love for you, Ajei. He looks to her, certainty in his gaze, yet his features held a shy humbleness in them. It has always been. And always would.

I have found comfort, promise and devotion in you. As I know in your heart you have in me. He would aim to press his forehead to her own, his eyes closing as he breaths her in. He takes a step back then, feeling his head pounding hard against his chest.

From pups, until we are old and tired, I will stand with you. There is not a life I would want to live without you at my side. His tail sweeps low, his head bowing between his front legs. Would you be my wife, Ajei?

oh they are just the bees knees <3

Ajei briefly wondered if he should have spoken with moonwoman and sun man first. This was new to her. But she had been happy to have him near. Soft laughter. A quiet happy yap. He had grown. But no he held himself different and he had been hurt. She wanted to fuss at the scars. But imagined she shouldn't it was something earned in the pursuit of something more

She held back while he greeted his parents a small smile to both of them. A larger one to Sun Man for he alone knew of gifts she had for Arrluk. Had helped her gather them.

Oh heavens. Her heart was beating a mile a minute. And panic threatened to overtake her. Not because of rejection or because of anything untoward. Merely she was so nervous he would change his mind and yet so excited. She was not a loud wolf. She didn't promise pretty prose and fierce fire. She offered a tended hearth, happy children, love so deep and so wide it could consume.

A shy smile lit up the green of her eyes. The slow burn of yearning and happiness threatened to overtake her.

You have always been my dearest one. Her voice caught A steady presence like the rivers and streams we both so like.

She licked his chin when he leaned against her. Yes I will marry you.

She felt the tears at the back of her throat. Salty and heavy. But filled with such promise. She could not even begin to explain to him the absolute tidal wave of love she held for him. She'd be the best wife she could. She would.

omg ahhh! <3333

sun man and moonwoman bore witness to this moment, watching arrluk proclaim to ajei his heart. village brightened as young woman smiled; kukutux felt it in her heart, and knew her son would build a hearth worthy of shikoba's strong daughter.

they kissed one another.

tears filled her own eyes, and the duck allowed the youthful pair several moments before she stepped forward to offer each an embrace.

"i have so much joy for you both."

the gifts gathered, only some emblem might be kept for the main ulaq. the rest was for ajei herself, wealth which which she might begin her own life beside arrluk.

a soft song then, moonwoman tilting back her head to send delighted notes skyward, beckoning all of moonglow with the wisdom of this apt new pairing.

once more, a wedding burnished the horizon in gold.
