Mama needs - Chandra - April 07, 2025

Maman was sat outside the den. Never far, she knew that, but the fact was that Chandra could no longer see her. She wondered if maybe Noctaryn was visiting again.

More often maman was leaving, never for long, but nonetheless Chandra could not follow. She could not stand. She tried, she really did, but that single pesky leg did not seem to work quite right with the rest. Julienne staying with them for reasons she did not know, maman had less time to help her practice lately.

And yet, today she tried again.

Little body leaning against the wall of the tree root den, she began to slowly push onto three legs.

Still too young to understand the true nature of the friction between her father and her newly-born aunt, the twisted little thing called Chandra, Julienne was nonetheless aware of some kind of unrest. Something... not quite right. In the wake of her mother's absence, the feeling had only continued to grow. Something was amiss.

She was beginning to think that something took the shape of a little black puppy with a grotesque leg. As much as she wanted to like the other girl, she couldn't. She just couldn't.

Seeing her latest attempt at walking, Julia crept up behind with tail swaying slowly, as if meaning to help the girl along. Anyone who watched her stride up to flank Chandra surely would have thought the same. Sweet little Julia, always helpful. That was her. Except just then, helping was the last thing on her mind. She leaned her own weight against Chandra, smiling innocently all the while as she sought to topple the other girl to the ground.

Julia's approach made her weary, and she was right to feel such a way. Toppling over with little force, the younger pup let out a cry.

She was unsure of the other's intent, whether she had meant to hurt her or not. The nuances of other's behaviour were still a mystery at her age; all she knew was that the push had hurt and she had not liked it. Staring up at Julia with a pout, she was left feeling disappointed with herself. She was tempted to nip the other girl.

Both only just beginning to use their words, Chandra had a difficult time expressing her feelings for Julienne. Maman seemed to be neutral on her, but Chandra was slowly growing to dislike the girl. It was the first time an opinion of her own had truly began to form.
