as the world caves in - Yura - April 29, 2025 assuming she's been around in the background <3 set before the arrival of Panik & co
Sapphique's grief was palpable. Yura found she could relate to some of it; the perpetrators - men! - but she had never experienced death in the way that they had. And so the girl had busied herself in caring for those still alive, alleviating some of the stress thrust upon the seawolves in this tumultuous time. And that included puppies. Puppies! Dawn saw her enter the den, a fat rabbit clutched in her jaws that she placed gently before the four squirming bundles. Had she ever been that small? They tugged at something instinctual within. "Shit...you can't eat that, can you," she murmured, watching as a plump pup began to gnaw clumsily at a furry ear. They had teeth now, surely? Brows knitting in thought, Yura severed the ear and began to chew it to a gross pulp before presenting it to the hungry kid. "Eugh. That better?" RE: as the world caves in - Sobeille - April 30, 2025 placing herself just behind yura, sobeille peered into the den at the four little lives that were now all of sapphique’s to care for. it hurt her heart to think of them growing without a maman. she nudged yura gently, reaching for a strip of rabbit and chewing thoughtfully. spitting out the paste, sobeille offered it to one of the puppies and laughed as their head bobbed while they sniffed. do you t’ink we were ever dis small? RE: as the world caves in - Yura - April 30, 2025 The arrival of Sobeille was a welcome relief. Yura found herself shuffling aside to make room so that they may share the grisly, but albeit rewarding, task of making adult food palatable for tiny mouths. "We must've been," she snorted. Had Sobeille read her mind? "We had to fit inside our mama's tummies somehow." Though she had never got to witness Sivaak's birth, she had made note of the gradual swelling of her flanks. What happened when the mother grew too big? Did the kids simply 'pop' out of her, for lack of a better word? She nudged her companion's shoulder amicably, a shit-eating grin plastered on her face. "Bet you'd be huge if you ever had babies." RE: as the world caves in - Sobeille - April 30, 2025 sobeille nestled alongside yura, stripping gristle from fat and chewing. for a time, their sides rose and fell in synchronicity. mnh. not dat small.sobeille countered, looking up to see the grin plastered on her friend's face that inspired an equally shit-eating one on her own. she nudged yura back, swallowing the segment of meat she'd carefully masticated. oops! had that been for the babies? my bad. mine now. when i be 'avin children, i might be as fat as sivaak.she fell silent a beat, taking another strip and chewing. this one was intended for guppies, promise. i been t'inking of naming dem after de women in my family. what you t'ink? RE: as the world caves in - Yura - May 02, 2025 Yura's expression darkened in mock annoyance to see a portion of her hard work disappear down Sobeille's greedy gullet. "She did look like an overweight polar bear," her humour was quick to return. "But I think you'd be more of a galumphing seal." Beneath the banter, her tail stirred with a mixture of excitement and dread. Would miniature Sobeille's be cute or scary? Either way, the girl hoped her friend would keep her legs closed, at least until their current charges were a little more grown up. They already had their paws indescribably full. "Grandma said that names carry power." While Sobeille continued to process the meat, Yura reached forward to take a squealing pup into her arms and began to clean its face with long swipes of her tongue. "That it is a great honour to be named after someone in the dancing lights. But I dunno. The thought of another anaa someday makes me a little sad." Death was a strange thing. It was a celebration as much as it was a loss. She let the thought ruminate as her lips twitched in disgust; this kid was a messy eater. "How close were you to these women?" RE: as the world caves in - Sobeille - May 04, 2025 a seal!sobeille bellowed in teasing affront, a swipe aimed mockingly at yura's face. her tail stirred alongside that of her companion as she reached for the rabbit again, peeling another strip. your grandmaman be a wise woman.remarked sobeille, deep thought heavy upon her brow. pushing the masticated meat towards one of the especially greedy puppies, sobeille's gaze followed yura's as the pup messily laid in the very food she was chewing. death was a part of life, sobeille supposed - each of them like a pale flower at summer's dawn: budding, blooming, withering, dying. always making room for new life. close.she tore another ribbon of red from the hare with a frown. t'ank you, for every'ting.her yellow gaze slid to yura's, round and genuine. i don't t'ink it would 'ave been possible without you. RE: as the world caves in - Yura - May 06, 2025 Swift as a stoat, Yura ducked to avoid the blow, her laughter echoing song-like around the small hovel. It was moments like these that Sobeille's company was really appreciated, even if her chest tightened at the thought of stealing the ruddy girl away from her grieving family. "Ay, she is. I miss her sometimes, but I know she's happier without me causing trouble there." And Yura recognised the claw in her heart as the same feeling she'd battled upon Moonglow's slopes. Guilt. Fuck. Now was not the time to get emotional. It hadn't been her mother to die, for Sedna's sake! "Don't sweat it, really. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you," she met Sobeille's gaze misty-eyed before her attention snapped back to the pup who's belly was almost clean of muck. "Besides, once you get past the peeing, pooping and crying - they're actually pretty cute." Setting aside her own biases, her tail gave an encouraging thump. "You should name them after your family, Sobeille. I think it would be a nice way to remember them." RE: as the world caves in - Sobeille - May 07, 2025 yura dodged, her laugh prompting a grin from the emerald. she thought she saw something else briefly eclipse the moon glow of yura’s gaze, but it was gone in an instant. unaware of the grief falling on the peak, sobeille turned back to the puppies and wondered if it was really true that kukutux was happier with the peak’s future stolen from her. she held in her mind’s eye the misty-eyed expression of her friend, working it over thoughtfully. it was nice to have her idea validated, but something else was bothering her. something just on the periphery she couldn’t name. do you t’ink you will go back?sobeille abruptly changed the topic, unapologetic - for suddenly she realized she didn’t want to wake up in sapphique without yura’s familiar form nearby. |
