how to crime - Sam - April 30, 2025

It occurred to Sam that he was not particularly good at doing crime. This, he realized, would create difficulties when he eventually found his villainous one and only and was asked to "stir shit up" without further direction.

Stomp on a flower? Kick a puppy? Where would he even find a puppy?

Probably not sticking out of whatever this weird white soil was. It sucked at his paws and made it difficult to walk, and the water had burned his mouth when he had sampled it. A decidedly evil landscape.

RE: how to crime - Sobeille - April 30, 2025

as sam would have it, puppies weren't exactly in short supply in sapphique.

sobeille had been instructed to rest - but did she do it? no. her mind was in tumult over recent events, and now more than ever she realized that the sound needed vigilant patrolling.

she hadn't been home when sapphique had been raided. it was sobeille's opinion that if she had, no one would be dead. her maman would still walk among them.

limping through the pale sands of the sound's beach, sobeille froze as she saw a figure -- had it been drinking?? pull from the water.

normally, sobeille would be duly inclined to immediately interrogate him. but she looked every bit a cat caught in a fan belt as she approached, taking in his lanky grey features and measuring whether or not he posed a threat to sapphique.

RE: how to crime - Sam - April 30, 2025

Sam was in the middle of making ugly blaergh-urgh-yuck faces when his eyes locked onto a creature that was creepy-creepin' towards him across the unpleasantly crumbly ground. He froze. His mouth was on fire.

It had a mask. Sam had never seen anything so badass in his life. Everyone back home was some variant of grey on grey - any other color was the stuff of legend. A mask would have blown their tiny minds. If this wasn't the resident Big Bad or a high-ranking goon, they certainly had potential.

This could be it. The moment.

"HGLLLRRRRRTGH!" Sam gurgled loudly. His burning mouth had filled with drool while he had been staring, and the intended "hello" came out as a wet sort of facial fart.

RE: how to crime - Sobeille - April 30, 2025

being that he was a man, sobeille did not warm to him. anyone else might have found the faces he made endearing -- and maybe sobeille could have even begrudged him his charismatic humor or even winsome silvery appearance -- but her maman had just died, and the two men prior she'd met in the sound had posed grave danger to sapphique.

her face fixed in a scowl, which hurt deeply -- so she made pains to avoid any further shift in facial expression.

lifting her chin just enough that it didn't cause howls of protest from the deep cuts on her neck, sobeille spoke. what you be doin'?

RE: how to crime - Sam - April 30, 2025

She looked angry. It suited her. Sam let some of the drool dribble into what he would one day come up know as sand, and cleared his throat.

"Looking for—" The baddest dude in the land? A chica most dastardly? It wasn't a very normal thing to say. Sam wasn't stupid - almost, if his mother was to be believed, but not entirely. "...a... job?" He cocked his head to the side and blinked. It wasn't a lie.

RE: how to crime - Sobeille - April 30, 2025

he cleared his throat, a gob of drool splattering to the sand. sobeille couldn’t help but stare. he’d been drinking the sea, which told her either he’d never seen it before, or was a madman.

a job? she wished yura was here to field this; what, specifically, compelled someone to wander the wilderness for a job? yura had more patience than her, and was far more lovely a conversant. she’d know exactly how to handle this.

brushing at a fleck of sand blown across her face, and wincing at the contact pain it caused, sobeille posed a disbelieving why?

RE: how to crime - Sam - April 30, 2025

"Why?" The wolf asked, scrubbing at her face and wincing. She looked deeply uncomfortable- to be seen in the daylight, no doubt. She had a face for night, but in a cool way, not in an 'oh no, put it away, think of the children' way.

Sam pursed his wolf lips. "Well.." he said, stalling. "Don't.. you have a job?"

RE: how to crime - Sobeille - April 30, 2025

never in sobeille's life had she encountered this.

haughty men, yes. stupid ones, too. but she couldn't quite fall in step with the rhythm of this stranger; what, exactly, did he mean?

as he pursed his lips she blinked, inhaling through a nose heavy with fresh wounds. okay, den. sure. a gleam in her eye as she pressed the trigger to see how far he'd go. i 'ave a job in mind... but it be one takin' a special kind of wolf.

could that be you? glittered the unspoken query in her gaze.

RE: how to crime - Sam - April 30, 2025

Wait. Had it happened? Sam took a careful step forward, squinting hard at Sobeille in the hopes that a sign would appear above her head and declare her the villain of his dreams. The lack of omniscient narration in day-to-day life was unfortunate.

"Wait, wait, hang on..." Sam took a steadying breath, channeling the stressed vibe of every human woman with a manicure tomorrow standing before a man on bended knee today. "Are we really doing this? You and me?"

It felt anticlimactic, but perhaps that was the life of a second. Humble. Unremarkable. Like a monk, but with crimes. Or was it a test? Had he failed by not jumping at the chance to prove himself? Sam felt his heart begin to gallop in place behind his ribs.

RE: how to crime - Sobeille - April 30, 2025

he stepped forward. she bristled immediately, bottlebrush tail lifting and the glint of her teeth shown; she was too wounded to slack on spacial etiquette. he would have to keep his distance or possibly get spit on.

are we really doing this, you and me? sobeille's ears laced back in brief confusion, replaced now by a blade of irritation. you see, sobeille happened to be a very serious wolf -- she could wrap her mind around his mannerisms.

be serious, or fuck off. a mostly empty threat, since sobeille could do very little in her present state.

RE: how to crime - Sam - April 30, 2025

Sam clenched his teeth so hard around the joyful squeal bubbling in his throat that a tiny little fart came out the other end. He didn’t care. A queen of the night stood before him - a diva of darkness! Madam Malevolence! ... very conveniently located and easy to find, as all great villains are!

Sam's mind skipped the gymnastics and headed straight for all out denial.

He dipped his head low and shuffled back a couple of steps. "M'am. I am at your service."

RE: how to crime - Sobeille - April 30, 2025

did he just —— ?

sobeille straightened, the humor in her expression dwindling. she would have very much enjoyed each epithet he thought of - if only she mastered reading minds the way she mastered pissing strangers off.

good. the tension in her shoulders softened.

now, it was her time to be a t-r-o-l-l. i want you to count de sand. every grain on dis beach.

by the straightness of her face, it was impossible to tell if she was joking.

RE: how to crime - Sam - May 01, 2025

It was a test, and a real classic at that. She wanted him to stay on this "beach" and torture himself with an impossible task until she was satisfied that he would follow orders when it mattered. It could take hours. Days, maybe, if she was particularly cruel. A shiver of delight ran down Sam's spine at the very thought.

"At once, m'am," he promised, bowing his sleek head low to the ground and beginning to mutter numbers. One. Six. Twenty. Ten. Forty-two. He wasn't entirely sure of the order, having never been called upon to count higher than three, but it didn't matter. She wanted him to give up, and he would not.

RE: how to crime - Sobeille - May 01, 2025

expecting a splutter of disbelief -- or at least some level of pushback -- sobeille's ears swept pleasantly forward as he unexpectedly bowed and began to count.

was it that easy?

her tail swished at her hocks as she watched. she was pretty sure he wasn't counting chronologically -- but let's be real, sobeille never had a reason to count much past three either.

after several minutes of this, and feeling rather sore from standing, sobeille cleared her throat. dat be enough. you 'ave passed de test.

whether he was playful or serious, she had yet to decide -- but she could play along too. she had a sense of humor, did she not? (she very much didn't)

now, i 'ave the real job for you. her eyes widened slightly to convey its importance to the silver-furred male; you know, the kind of job that would make even an antwerp diamond heist mastermind turn his head in interest.

RE: how to crime - Sam - May 01, 2025

She only made him count for a few minutes. Sam snapped his jaw shut on his fifth 'ten' and looked up to see her yellow eyes widen. He was in. A real task. A spot of hijinks, perhaps? Or some rabblerousing, which he took to mean 'going generally bananas' in a way that was inconvenient to the largest possible number of individuals.

He waited with bated breath.

RE: how to crime - Sobeille - May 01, 2025

content that he was fully invested now, sobeille sat.

it was a bold move for a girl injured; if he made a move to attack her, she'd be egregiously disadvantaged.

but something told her he would not harm her - at least not now. it was in the way he looked at her, and how his breath hung in suspension somewhere in his jaws.

i want you to dig up a body.

do you accept?

RE: how to crime - Sam - May 02, 2025

'I want you to dig up a body.'

It was Sam's turn to ask why, but it was Villain 101 that he must not — especially not  during the interview.

He studied the stumps that sand had transformed his legs into for a few moments before meeting Sobeille's eyes. "Where?" A perfectly acceptable question, alongside 'when' and 'would you also like to hear a little song'.

RE: how to crime - Sobeille - May 04, 2025

every interaction sobeille had with a stranger before informed her that this man was not normal. as he studied his limbs, she studied him -- wondering just what in the fatty tissue housed by a bed of bone in his skull might look like. was it as different as he was?

a thin smile cracked her features as he answered. glancing around them to ensure there were no eavesdroppers, sobeille brought her muzzle to his ear and whispered the answer.

wishing to observe his reaction she pulled away, gaze resting on the platinum furs of his face.

RE: how to crime - Sam - May 05, 2025

I have created a simp hahaha

Sobeille told him. Her muzzle tickled the tufty hair in his ear as she whispered a location but no name – and no reason. She did not reveal whether he would be unearthing bones or swollen, putrid flesh, or who might take offense at finding pieces of their relative or friend sprinkled upon the earth. Equal parts horror and excitement bubbled in Sam's guts, spiked with a generous measure of adrenaline. It registered on his face as something akin to constipation.

He was really doing this.

She pulled back and stared at him with hard, yellow eyes. Sam felt an overwhelming urge to please her – and a little thrill at the prospect of being told he had done well, even though Sobeille seemed like the sort that would rather suck on a dead clam than give a compliment.

There was a little shudder of reverence in his voice when Sam said "Alright," and backed up a few steps. He looked so very young when he added, hopefully, "My name is Sam."

RE: how to crime - Sobeille - May 07, 2025

sobeille was certain that this might be the last she saw of ‘sam’. the grotto was an entity in of itself; reluctant to turn over the treasures settling within. in either event, she was confident he’d be cursed as he exhumed — which was the precise reason she wanted someone else to do her dirty work for her.

sam. she liked that it was short, and bearing the same sounds as her own name and sapphique. but she did not offer her own name in return. he had yet to earn it.

come find me by de cliffs when you be done. she had use for one of the bones; the rest she would instruct him to put back as he found it at a later date.

RE: how to crime - Sam - May 08, 2025

fade to back by metallica

Were he in posession of pants or even aware of the concept, Sam would have peed in them out of sheer excitement. He would see her again. The grey youngster nodded vigorously and inhaled as if to speak, but couldn't quite make the transition and ended up with too much air and blurry vision.

And then he was off, sprinting down the beach to find a place to hunker down until night – any stoodge worth his salt knew that crime was best committed under the cover of darkness. There was a wide, wolfish grin on Sam's black lips. This was going better than ge could have hoped.
