Here we go again - Kaiaka - June 01, 2025 Throb. That seemed to be all her ribs did these days. Kaiaka grimaced at the memory—hoof meeting chest, the sharp jolt of impact, the way air had fled her lungs as she stumbled to stay upright. It could’ve been so much worse, and for that, she was grateful. Still, the injury left her with little to do but wander the Creek. Mae had been kind, welcoming her and giving her time to heal. Kaiaka’s pace was slow and aimless as she moved through the territory, her limbs aching less than her pride. It was peaceful here, almost too quiet, save for the constant murmur of the river. To think Mae had been patrolling its borders alone. She clearly cared deeply for this place. The silence pressed in. Kaiaka’s thoughts drifted to the emptiness surrounding her. Where had everyone gone? How did a pack just… vanish? The mystery clung to her like mist, drawing her deeper into the heart of the territory. She nosed through abandoned dens, careful not to disturb what little was left behind. There were no signs of violence, no torn earth, no dried blood, no scent of struggle. Just… absence. She felt a pang of sympathy for Mae, left behind with no answers and too many questions. Kaiaka glanced back toward the river, wondering. RE: Here we go again - Damsel - June 03, 2025 At some point, Damsel ceased caring about borders. The light scent of wolf urine did nothing to stop her from entering the creek territory. She trotted about for a time, lapped at the rushing water and used trees to scratch an itch or three; she had to hope it wasn't fleas. Finally the hound scooped up a rabbit, feeling rather pleased with herself she searched for a place to settle and eat. She was yet to see a wolf, not until the end of a tail popped out from behind a tree some distance away. She paused for only a moment, eyes narrowed to try and get a better look. RE: Here we go again - Kaiaka - June 03, 2025 At least Mae didn’t have many strangers pressing in on her borders. Whatever pack had once claimed this land had clearly left its mark—enough of one to keep most would-be intruders at bay. It made recruiting difficult, Kaiaka mused, but Mae was nothing if not stubborn. The earthen she-wolf had little doubt in the blind lass ability to persevere. She rounded a tree and came to a halt. A she-dog stood ahead, a hare gripped between her jaws. So much for solitude. Kaiaka’s brow furrowed, her gaze narrowing as she sized up the stranger. Mae had said she was alone out here, so who was this? And what business did she have in Swiftcurrent Creek? With a cautious step forward and a sideways glance, Kaiaka broke the silence. Allo. This be Swiftcurrent Creek territory. Who’re you? RE: Here we go again - Damsel - June 03, 2025 The wolf made it's approach, speaking in tongues as far as Damsel was concerned - moreso than they usually did. What did she care if this was Swiftcurrent Creek? It was just the two of them here, and from the looks of it this one wasn't in tip-top shape. Responding with what must have been a smaller chuff muffled by the carcass, Damsel resumed her search. Hopping over a smaller stream, she hoped to pass by the wolf entirely. Maybe they would assume she simply didn't understand and move on, it happened more often than she assumed upon entering the wilds. RE: Here we go again - Kaiaka - June 03, 2025 A low rumble vibrated in the chest of the earthen she-wolf as the stranger brushed off her words, ignoring her entirely. Pain pulsed through her ribs with the effort, but she pushed past it, stepping forward to cut off the other’s advance. This might not be her home, but she wasn’t about to stand by while someone walked in with such blatant disrespect. Mae had worked too damn hard for that. Think ya might be lost. Turn around. Kaiaka’s voice was flat—detached, almost clinical. She wasn’t spoiling for a fight, but if one came, she’d give it everything she had. The piebald stranger might not realize what ground she was walking on, but Kaiaka wouldn’t let ignorance slide without a reckoning. She didn’t know dog breeds, had only ever run with proper wolves, but that didn’t matter. She’d make her position clear, one way or another. RE: Here we go again - Damsel - June 25, 2025 Damsel takes a moment to consider. She's alone, and a wolf is inevitably larger than herself. A fight isn't worth the struggle, even if she were to win she gains nothing but pride. Her expression unchanging, she turns towards the direction the wolf suggests. If this is the way she is meant to go, she will. No meal is lost, and no blood is shed on either side. A fair path to take, she thinks. RE: Here we go again - Kaiaka - July 01, 2025 The she-wolf relaxed slightly as the other female appeared to heed her warning. There was no need for bloodshed, especially given her current condition. Still, she paced along the boundary of the packland, her gaze fixed on the stranger until she finally cleared Swiftcurrent’s territory. A quiet breath escaped her as the tension drained from her muscles. Since when had she become so pack-minded? Something to reflect on later, for sure. |
