Sunrise activate - Ajei - June 03, 2025 The morning was early. Ajei had already prepared a meal of fish and different berries and such for Arrluk. Leaving it near him. He wouldbe up soon she'd wager. Upon shoulders of fire kiss she held some furs in need of repair. She had already gently chewed frayed edges and now they were in need of cleaning. She hauled them and gently began the process of cleaning there at the rivers edge. A gentle hum on her lips. Eyes allow with wonder and delight as they often were. RE: Sunrise activate - Valiant - June 08, 2025 He'd been feeling better, lately. Ever since the sun returned, and with it, his ability to lie on a flat rock and bake the ache from his limbs, he'd felt just a little more limber. He used that now to lope easily across the territory, returning from a dawnlight patrol around the borders. After checking in with Vairë, he headed back out to see what the rest of the pack was up to. The first wolf he ran into was Ajei. "Want some help?" he asked, already splashing into the water to cool his paws. He did not know much about the making or the keeping of furs. Perhaps Ajei could help him with that. RE: Sunrise activate - Ajei - June 10, 2025 She was surprised from her reverie by the wolf Valiant. She tilted her ears forward and offered him a small smile. Of course. I was biting off the frayed edges and now they simply need cleaned. She moved so he could see what she was doing. As a wolf she had no t humbs, but she made do with sand at the water's edges. Used her paws to scoop it in and then in a kneading fashion, but like a cat she kneaded at the fur to press the sand in and then dipped it into water repeating the process. RE: Sunrise activate - Valiant - September 02, 2025 Oof, sorry for the long absence! Happy to continue or to close this up!
Valiant marveled at how peaceful Ajei was. He knew that her mother had died not very long ago, and with the fresh shock of their leaders' death, he'd worried often for the young couple. But somehow, he found himself bolstered by her presence rather than the other way around. Still, he listened intently, respectfully to the lesson, and got right to work when it was done. "You've been doin' this a long time," he thought, remembering flashes of red in the periphery of many of his memories of pack life. She'd always been quiet, in his mind, but he was realizing he'd just not paid enough attention. "I need to get better at workin' with pelts, I think." He didn't like the work, but he knew nothing was beneath him. They all had to step up after everything that had been lost. RE: Sunrise activate - Ajei - September 08, 2025 You'refine
Ajei had many blows to her mental health. She wore grief like a second skin. But she refused to be cowled by it. Instead she wrapped it tight and wore it like a boa. Always there, always tight. But with a sheer astounding level of respect for what she had and lost. It would not destroy her. A small smile. I have indeed. I have always found peace in the mundane. The quiet moments of toil that bring your mind to an even keel. She laughed gently. A tiny bird shrill really. I can show you if you'd like. RE: Sunrise activate - Valiant - September 08, 2025 Valiant smiled back, stepping into a more ready position. "How to work with pelts, or how to be more even keel?" he jested. He thought he had at least one of them down pat, despite the inner turmoil he tried not to acknowledge, and the long periods of absence that mixedhearts had put him through. He stepped into the water, just up to his paws. "Show me what to do," he encouraged. "I been here long enough. I suppose I oughta learn." RE: Sunrise activate - Ajei - September 08, 2025 She chuckled. Only pelts Im afraid. Im not quite sure how to show what ive always been. And she wasn't, but Aje had always been calm, quiet, even, steady. It was a wonder to her sometimes that Arrluk who was full of life had even looked at her twice. But it just made her love him more. Scoop sand and then knead it She showed him as best she could. RE: Sunrise activate - Valiant - September 09, 2025 To wasn't complicated work; Valiant picked a pelt and copied her, feeling just a little silly despite knowing it was important work. He hadn't grown up with furs like this, and it was strange to see them used to often in these lands. Part of him thought the moon wolves oddities for doing so. Part of him felt as though he must seem rather primitive to them in turn. The work was quiet. Valiant hummed to himself at times, slowly his muscles tiring quickly but his spirit spurring him on. He'd be sore from it in the evening, but it was satisfying work. "How're you doing, Ajei?" he asked her, after a long few minutes of quiet. He stole a little glance at her. "You've been through an awful lot. You'n Arrluk both." Perhaps it wasn't his place. He was not terribly close with either of them. But he was now the eldest in their little pack, and he knew they all must miss their elders deeply. He couldn't replace them, but he knew it was time for him to focus on the youth of the pack, and to help them rebuild the strength of their community. And that had to start with Ajei and Arrluk themselves being strong — and well cared for! RE: Sunrise activate - Ajei - September 09, 2025 Ajei had always found solace in the simple. The mundane. Things that others overlooked as troublesome or annoying. Toil for toil's sake. But it had always made her feel useful and seen. Even now. She was lost for a time in the repetitive moments. Only taking seconds to adjust Valiant here or there where he lagged. But he was doing very well. Oh I'm alright I suppose. There are too many blessings to be sad. Even the small ones. I woke up this morning. The sun is shining. Grief is hard. And missing those we loved even harder. But I think we are doing well. As well as we can. Thank you for asking. RE: Sunrise activate - Valiant - September 09, 2025 Valiant was tolerant of corrections, even though he was quite embarrassed to receive them. He tried ever harder to make his work above reproach, learning quickly for fear of further shame. It was still nice, though; these were the sort of neuroses he dealt with every day. Usually he did not have such nice company. "We do. We are," he agreed, though by his tone, it could perhaps be inferred that he was still talking himself around to the idea. He wanted to believe Ajei, but there were some days when it seemed more curse than blessing to wake up into the same cold world. He was alone out here, tethered most strongly to the pack by ghosts. Nothing of his past — any of his pasts — remained within the borders. Or they did, he supposed. Of course they did. But they were not the key pieces. They were not the ones he'd lived for, even if they were still the ones he would bleed and die for. He didn't know how to carry on from that. But, as always, he found that he was carrying on, anyway. The days just kept on passing, and like Ajei had said: he kept on waking up. Valiant smiled at her. Today, he told himself, was a very nice day. Quiet and peaceful. He had a friend nearby and a task before him. "You'll have to teach me how to make these, one of these days," he told her, sitting back to survey his work. The pelt certainly looked neater. "I suppose I'm enough of a moon wolf now that I ought to know." Because if he wasn't a moon wolf, and if he didn't have a moon wife, what the hell was he doing here? RE: Sunrise activate - Ajei - September 15, 2025 Ajei didn't correct for shame, but to teach. And valiant was doing well. Very well. Ajei smiled. Gladly. And yes you are always a moon wolf now. Shall we carry these back? She nosed at them. They just need to dry now. I will spread them outside the den. RE: Sunrise activate - Valiant - September 17, 2025 Valiant was insistent on carrying the pelts, though he wouldn't go so far as to outright argue with the starwoman. He carried what he was allowed on his back, happy to act as pack mule for the smaller wolf, despite that she'd gotten them out to the water just fine on her own. "We oughta get some more of these," he told her, offhand. "It's gettin' on toward winter." He looked up at the mountains, but there was not yet snow. They still had time — but he was freshly galvanized by the mere idea of a task for him to fulfil. "Thanks for teachin' me, Ajei," he said, his tail wagging. |
