Rodyn had walked for a few days now. He had forgotten how much further some places were. The Burn in his muscles was a welcome feeling. Of course he was no out of shape male. But even as active as he was. It was still a haul.

He smiled to himself. The sights the sounds were beautiful. And he felt Kukutux and Aiolos with him as he walked. How he missed them all. His found family.

Samani. His peachy queen. He recalled again his first journey. And he felt the familiar ache of grief. But it was tinged with happiness too for he could now more easily recall the good memories, the happy ones. He had learned to live with his grief.

A soft howl requesting an audience with @Solenya or @Kirain. His pack at his paws some of the trade items picking out.

RE: There once was a village - Solenya - June 10, 2025

Ears swiveled to catch the howl of request, her name and Kirain’s on the wind of it. Solenya was reluctant to leave, lounging in her den, away from the others. This week was the worst of it all—where she craved connection of the dubious kind.

There was a male present, Sam, and every time she caught his scent, she felt the coiled snake low in her belly, striking at her to relieve it. She would whine and growl, warring with herself to remain restrained, or to let herself free.

Though she loathed the idea, she stood to greet who called on their borders. Kirain was still away—only soil knows where she treads now—so, it was left to Solenya to do what must be done.

She padded quickly, wanting more than anything for this to be over so she may return to her tormented solitude. The closer she got to where the howl had come, the more she smelled it: male, familiar. She did not stop the deep inhale, her body wanted to take in more of the delicious scent.

But, when she finally saw who it belonged to, she let loose a soft, keening whine. Rodyn, clad in aged bark with gilded, kind eyes, stood before her, a pack laid out before him. The lupine woman had stopped well out of reach, further than she would have liked on a normal day, but it wouldn’t be enough to where, if he paid attention to such things, he would know her affliction.

Rodyn…

Her greeting was soft, slightly strained, as if his name on her lips was the bowstring threatening to snap. Her cheeks heated, her eyes flitting between him and anywhere else. Her body screamed for recklessness, but her heart was just winning the battle—ever so slightly.

I’m-I’m sorry, if it were any other time, I’d come closer, but I fear I don’t have much of a handle on myself… Her body trembled with the restraint, her voice mingled with that awful keening.

She was curious as she eyed the pack, however, nodding towards it, her thoughts putting two and two together. You must be on a trade route.

RE: There once was a village - Rodyn - June 10, 2025

Rodyn had promised he would stop here first. He wasn't sure if it was wise, but it wasn't out of his way. After all, he wanted to stop at Moontide anyway, which was merely up the beach line.

She arrived and he first wondered at her reluctant distance. They here scent hit him like a freight train (not that he would know what that was) and he froze. Dug his claws deep into the dirt, and tightened his spine.

A small respectful deep of his head and a smile that lit up the corners of his eyes. Hello again.

Rodyn tilted an ear and nodded. I understand. You know. I have some business further up the beach line. If it makes you more comfortable I can come back another day?

He looked down at teh pack and nodded. Taking shallow breaths. He was a gentleman, but he was still a man. And she smelled amazing.

Yes I am. Also I carry the invite for mid fall in Firefly Glen. We will be hunting some big game. I am unsure if it will be Elk, or Caribou. But whatever it maybe, we hunt enough for every pack to take much meat home. There is also much trade. And it is family friendly so anyone can bring their families if they wish. It is a time of neutrality and fellowship.

RE: There once was a village - Solenya - June 10, 2025

His return of greeting, the way his eyes lit, and the way his body went rigid as he scented her was fuel—and her body revved, a single step placed forward. Sheer willpower stopped her as a soft, inward growl left her.

His offer to leave and return would surely be helpful, but even she warred with herself on what to answer. She felt bold, brave, and terrified in his presence. Then, surprised at the smoke incensed words that left her.

What would make me more comfortable is something I cannot—will not—allow myself to have. Head tilted, predatory in nature, as she eyed him. Her toes threatened to curl, eyes dancing as they noticed the way his chest rose and fell.I do not wish for you to go—heat or not. I was hoping you would come and visit.

Head shaking the smoke free, her lips curled softly in a smile, a shade of disappointment in its wake But, if you must, I understand whole heartedly. I am sure my current state calls to you as nature dictates.

Most males would jump at the opportunity and she would have had to fight them off—many times with tooth and nail if that was what was needed. Rodyn held back, and she appreciated the effort. His soul felt safe—beautifully so.

Her ears perked at his invitation. It would be good for the pack to socialize, trade—and it was a chance to see him again. Consider this our acceptance of the invite.

A bit of shyness snuck onto her features as curiosity begged her to ask something vital.

Will you have family there? A wife—or a husband—any children? I’m sorry, she paused to let loose an embarrassed chuckle, I’m being nosey.

RE: There once was a village - Rodyn - June 10, 2025

Rodyn was wary when she stepped forward. Mostly because he was not a man fueled by what nature dictated. He was one who wanted the forever. He had it for a time. But it had proven forever could be seconds.

A small smile. Very well. I will visit for a time. Though it does. I can control myself. Any man who tells you otherwise is a liar. It is hard of course that itself is not a lie. But one can control themselves.

I'm glad you're coming. I think your and yours will enjoy yourselves.

He chuckled softly, slightly sadly, and shook his head. No apology necessary. I am a widow. I lost my wife almost 2 years ago now in child birth. And a daughter. I have two sons Panuk and Rolayne, but as boys often do. They went out to make their own fortunes. I don't know of they will return or not.

RE: There once was a village - Solenya - June 10, 2025

She hummed, his words affirming what her soul recognized in his. Preservation, respect, duty.

He spoke of men and control; her eyes dimmed, ears drooping just slightly, as she murmured, Then I have met many liars in my womanhood. All met with tooth or claw—usually both. Would it ever be different?

I appreciate your sense of control. Her body says otherwise, but her heart whispered something soft, almost inaudible, but surely there between its beating.

And then part of it broke at his reveal—he was a widower, with children—though older now—but still left without their mother. Her ears swiveled back and down, a sadness heavy in her green eyes.

Loss withstands time, that I know well, and for that I extend my deepest sympathies. She took another step towards him, heat forgotten in their shared grief of loss in family. The lupine remembered herself in time, stopping just out of reach.

We plan to honor those who have passed here—if you’d allow me, I’d like to plant something in their names. Lilies, maybe? Or, something that you think would represent them? Only if you want to, of course.

She had completely forgotten in her shock at seeing him at her borders about the task she had given to Kirain. A blush crept over her cheeks, eyes averting as she mentioned it. I…hope the ones I sent with my dear friend, Kirain, for you and your pack made it before you left to come this way. If not—well, surprise? She rolled her eyes internally at herself.

Smooth—very smooth.

RE: There once was a village - Rodyn - June 10, 2025

Rodyn wouldn't say it wasn't hard. There was a part of this type of scent that made you stupid. But he also had managed to control himself this far. And knew many who did too.

He frowned. I'm sorry for that. Truly sorry you had to go through such things.

Rodyn smiled. Though this time it didn't quite reach hia gaze. The only give away that he knew what she said and it hurt.

She grew nearer and with it his senses kicked into overdrive. He was very aware of her. But as promised he stood firmly and did not move.

Samani liked bright colors. And Tooteega she was as pale as a lily. Such a flower seems fitting.

He chuckled. I got them thank you very much. I placed the lilies on our memorials, but I kept the lupine for myself.

RE: There once was a village - Solenya - June 10, 2025

It is neither here nor there. There are worse things to endure in this life. Maybe, someday, it will be different for me. She shrugged the heaviness away.

Her smile was warm. I will see to it personally. When the flowers have bloomed, I will show you Samani and Tooteega. Another chance to see him, again. Shame snuck in quickly; there are better reasons to bring him to the Sanctum, but she would take the chances presented when she could.

Her smile grew and her eyes returned to his. That…was my hope. No one should sit in grief alone. In the quiet of silence, I hope you can look to the lupine and know that I sit with you.

RE: There once was a village - Rodyn - June 10, 2025

He nodded. There were. He had seen it. He briefly thought of the wolves of Sapphique who had been forced into prison. Who had been He was betting used and abused while caught. His stomach churned.

A soft laugh. Alright, thank you. I look forward to it.

And despite himself he realized he did. It had been awhile, but he was enjoying meeting others again.

Thank you that is nice to know. Grief can feel solitary.

RE: There once was a village - Solenya - June 10, 2025

She dipped her head. Of course, it is my pleasure. You have been kind to me, you deserve the same in return. Softer, she added, I guess I also do not want sadness to weigh too heavily on you. Eyes like yours should never be so dull.

Bold, Solenya, embarrass yourself more.

Eyeing the pack that had slipped both of their minds, she peered at it. What have you brought on your travels, Rodyn? I’m a little addle-brained, I completely forgot about it—I’m sorry. This is what you’ve come all this way for, after all. Sitting, her tail thumped as she patiently waited.

RE: There once was a village - Rodyn - June 10, 2025

Rodyn gave a surprised laugh. His own cheeks warming a little. Thank you for that. You have pretty eyes yourself. and she did. She was dressed in light colors.

He gave a shrug of shoulder. No worries really. The invitation was the important part. I have a few different things.

He nosed the elk fur open the items he jad painstakingly chose lying there in the sun. Bits of his travels.

The list is in the first thread of all he has

RE: There once was a village - Solenya - June 10, 2025

His laugh settled itself deeply in her bones. She shivered with it, a sigh escaping her, disguised as a need to intake a deep breath.

A little flirting is harmless, and she found it quite enjoyable to see the red bloom along his cheeks. The tree can indeed be shaken, she thought, amused. But, she also enjoyed the steadiness of him, similar to the guardians of her home.

That’s what he reminded her of—home. She shook her head, trying to dislodge such thoughts. He would indeed think her crazy—as if she already wasn’t with this blighted curse.

No need to thank me for the truth, Rodyn. And then her own cheeks responded to his return of flattery. Careful, some would say you’re flirting.

She laughed, it bounced off the trees and around them as it echoed.

But her laughter died as his pack unfurled, something glistened in the dappled sunlight caught her attention. A quartz, rose—hued, sat amongst the goods. She bent to eye it better, enraptured by the way its beauty.

Rodyn, she breathed, what beauty you have brought.

RE: There once was a village - Rodyn - June 10, 2025

Rodyn shifted. It is only the truth, but they can say what they want. I don't mind. A teasing glint in his eye.

Rodyn was a gentleman not a saint. And he had begun as he aged to shed some of his barriers. He was open with others. He had loved and lost. That changed you.

He eyed the quartz and nodded. There used to be a pack here. Akashingo. They worshipped gods of sand and far away places. And they kept things of renowned beauty and splendor. I traded for it among them

RE: There once was a village - Solenya - June 10, 2025

That damn snake coiled lower. She tsked her tongue, shaking her head as her eyes darkened. Neither do I.

The lupine was so close to sticking her head in the ground. Instead she looked skyward, a silent plea in her eyes: Guardians, help me.

He explained the quartz’s origin. It was indeed a thing of beauty, her eyes returning to the rough cut of earth. But, unfortunately, they were so new here, that there was nothing to trade for it.

She glanced up at him. You have so many wonderful things—but, there is nothing I can trade that you don’t already have. Troubles of being so new, I’m afraid.

RE: There once was a village - Rodyn - June 13, 2025

Rodyn grinned at that. He liked this female. She was funny and smart. A good friend at teh very least.

Rodyn smiled. No need to worry about it. Tell you what. You take it as gift for arriving to the Teekon wilds. And for caring about us when we were in the beginning of our grief. And When you have more items to trade. I will return for a trade.

He bent his head to the fur and pushed the quartz forward with his nose. Then once it was free of the small items. He pushed it with his paw gently.

RE: There once was a village - Solenya - June 13, 2025

The lupine gasped. A gift? Something shaped by the earth in which she held so reverently in her heart given to her freely. Solenya watched him nose it away from the other items to push in her direction. Her heart thudded, steady but strong, chest rising and falling in time with its beat.

There was nothing that could stop the swell of emotions—she closed the distance, hugging him. She was not driven by heat—though it was not forgotten as the scent of him, masculine and mixed by his travels, seemed to seep into her—but more so because the gesture had touched her more than anything truly ever has since the loss of her family.

She pulled away from him quickly when she finally remembered herself, retreating with shock in herself plain in her features. Rodyn—I’m sorry. Thank you. I—oh, are you sure? I can’t possibly. She felt like she were all over the place, her words fumbling over themselves.

RE: There once was a village - Rodyn - June 13, 2025

She made a soft noise. He blinked and looked up. She seemed okay. He hoped he hadn't offended her in some way. or upset her.

He realized pretty quickly he hadn't when she all but bull rushed him. Her scent all around him. Encompassing and making his head spin for a minute. He tried to lift a paw to return the hug, but had to set it back down. Because he was a little bit gobsmacked.

He chuckled and cleared his throat. No need to apologize. I'm glad you like it. I'm sure. You keep it.

RE: There once was a village - Solenya - June 13, 2025

She giggled away her embarrassment. Like it? That’s quite an understatement—I love it. She bent to pick it up, careful not to scratch the surfaces with her sharp teeth. Turning, she placed it on the nearest moss bed, hoping it will stay safe there until it moves to its new spot inside her den. A place where she could always see it and be reminded of…a certain kind soul.

She turned back to the male, her tail waving gently. The smoke that had settled in her eyes had turned into something softer, more polished.

Her voice small, but steady. Thank you…truly. I have never been gifted something so…perfect. And with a little more shyness now, a little less sure of herself, her words dropping just slightly, I won’t keep you from your route any longer—but, Rodyn? Come see me, again? This— she gestured to herself, —is obviously not forever, and I’d like to…see you outside of business. If—if you want, of course.

RE: There once was a village - Rodyn - June 13, 2025

A small light at the corners of his eyes. Glad to hear it. and he was everyone deserved something they loved.

Rodyn nodded his head. Sure I'd like that. I can stop back on my way around. And you're not so far I can't visit when I'm home again too.

A soft wink for her as he slowly rolled his fur back up. And maybe I can trade something that matches that quartz.

RE: There once was a village - Solenya - June 13, 2025

You’re welcome here any time—our guardians know you now. She paused, eyes lifting to watch as leaves descended from the canopies above to drift around the two wolves. The rays from the overhead sun dappled them in a soft light; it was as if the guardians were dancing, swaying with songs floating in the winds.

She chuckled softly, eyes dancing as they returned to Rodyn once again. I think they like your presence—I find myself agreeing with them.

He winked at her, his words curling around her, causing a gentle shiver to caress her spine. Was he flirting or did she only just wish he was?

Regardless, she shook her head at him, eyes gleaming.

Careful, one would think you are flirting with me. Again. Her laughter was filled with warmth, low in her throat. I’m sure I can think of something to give in return for the quartz. Though, being in your debt doesn’t sound like a terrible sentence, either. If it meant he would return, she was glad for it.

With the quartz clutched gingerly between teeth, Solenya turned and made her leave; not before showing off her assets, her tail high. The lupine may be pure, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t have a little fun. She sent him a wink of her own before disappearing in the brush.
