^_____________________________^ - Treepie - June 30, 2025 Treepie stood on a ledge perhaps a hundred feet up the mountainside, peering in the direction of the caldera. Amalia must have given birth by now. Tiuttuk would like to meet her half-siblings, even if she feared what it might do to her. She also wanted to offer an apology to Towhee and pick the eldest Redhawk’s brain about ornithology. Perhaps she could tell Pie more about the bird who even now perched in a scraggly spruce nearby. Before she went anywhere, she wanted to notify @Alaric and invite Tikaani. She turned, her leathery paw pads scraping on the shale as she sent up a note inviting them to meet her at the foot of the mount. She descended, noting that she couldn’t find any fresh instances of @Elk’s scent. She hadn’t set eyes on him in a few days. And Pala and the boys were long gone, of course. Moonspear now consisted of three wolves clinging to a piece of ground largely for what it had once represented. Though this reality didn’t change much for Tiuttuk, she realized that if she asked Tiki to visit the caldera with her, it would leave Alaric completely alone here. She could invite him along, of course, but then there would be no one left to defend the… Pie shook her head and sighed. Who was she kidding? There was no village here anymore. RE: ^______________________________^ - Alaric - July 03, 2025 It was gone. As Alaric had predicted. As he had tried to warn. The moon spear couldn't hold its place. But this is what happened as Matriarch left. As wolves left. Was it heart rendering absolutely. And yet Alaric felt free. He had not realized the true strain of holding onto something broken had done. He should have learned with his first broken heart. The jagged edges tore you apart. And thus it had happened again. Would he stay if pie needed him, yes. He would stay until he couldn't hold it for her anymore. RE: ^______________________________^ - Treepie - July 03, 2025 The Sovereign—former Sovereign, she supposed—came quickly. Treepie shot him a small smile despite the bad news that hovered over them like a black cloud. Her yellow eyes glanced over his shoulder as if hoping to see Tiki climbing down after him, though there was no sign of her sister yet. Gaze shifting back to Alaric’s face and settling there, Pie said, I want to go visit my taataa and Amalia at the caldera. I’d love for you and Tiki to come with me.And then she cut to the chase. I’m not sure what happens next after that, though. If it was just you, what would you do with yourself right now, Alaric? Where would you go? RE: ^______________________________^ - Alaric - July 03, 2025 Tiki would come behind. Offering her sister a soft smile. Then wait quietly. She would go to the Caldera with pie. He dipped his head and looked around. Taking a small breath. He still wasn't sure what footing he and Pie were on anymore. But he'd show up for her. I'd do what I did before travel and trade for a place to sleep. Food. And so on. RE: ^______________________________^ - Treepie - July 03, 2025 Tikaani arrived, though she said nothing. Perhaps she sensed they were in the middle of an important conversation. Tiuttuk padded over to nuzzle her sister, then stepped back to where she had been standing previously to hear Alaric’s answer. She was grateful when he didn’t deflect, nor try to sugarcoat his response. Pie sensed his honesty and noticed the subtle lack of weight on his broad shoulders. Perhaps this disband was a relief after the pack had been limping along for such a long time. That thought made her stomach clench. And you would be thriving this way, not just surviving?she pressed gently, eyes flicking to Tiki as she wondered whether her best friend might enjoy a similar path. Because if that’s what would make you happiest, then you should do it, Alaric. She wanted to insist he should visit her when he could, though Treepie didn’t know where she would be at this point. The part of her that wanted to stay on Moonspear, even all by herself, was shrinking as she faced the reality of the situation. Staying with the Redhawks made sense, though the mere thought made her paw pads sweaty. Let’s go visit our taataa, she repeated, eyes catching Tiki’s before moving back to Alaric’s face, and your sistraa. Meet their children. And then each of us can decide what to do from there. If that sounds like a plan. While she gave them a moment to think on that, Treepie gazed up the mountain looming over their heads. She felt tears prick her eyes and made no attempt to stop them as they gathered in the corners and began to slip down her cheeks. She had done everything she could to stop this day from coming and honor Sialuk’s legacy. So many feelings welled up in her chest, they were too confusing to name. Sorry, she said—perhaps to the mountain, or the two wolves standing there with her, or her anaa, or maybe even herself, and thank you for everything. RE: ^______________________________^ - Alaric - July 09, 2025 Alaric looked at her and sensed that Pie needed honesty in all things. It depends Tiuttuk. It depends on the season, the receptiveness of the packs. Sometimes I only survived, sometimes I thrived, and sometimes I was so close to death. I was certain I wouldn't see the next morning. It depends on many things. Alaric shrugged a shoulder. I'm not getting any younger Tiuttuk. Chances are I couldn't do it anymore. So for now I plan to stick around and see what happens. Alaric was no a young man anymore. He was also not old, but he knew that as the seasons came and went, he would grow old. And time was not easy on any man. And it would not creep upon him, it would come full bore and latch on. And he'd be left thinking where did time go. RE: ^_____________________________^ - Treepie - July 09, 2025 His words confused her, prompting her to shoot a quizzical glance toward Tiki. If he couldn’t do what he wanted due to his age, what made him think that staying here would be any better? He—they all—needed the support of a proper village. And this wasn’t one any longer. Pie swallowed a lump in her throat as she herself struggled with these two truths. She didn’t want to accept them, nor admit them. But they didn’t even need to do that right this moment, did they? We don’t have to make any huge decisions right this second. You’ll come with us to visit the caldera though, won’t you? To meet your nieces and nephews? RE: ^_____________________________^ - Alaric - July 09, 2025 Alaric h ad meant he would stick near Tiki and Pie. he did not realize that his words were confusing until he saw the look that Tiuttuk shot him and he shifted under it's scrutiny. I meant I wouldn't leave you and Tiki, Pie. And you're right. We don't. No decisions of such a huge caliber should be made on a whim anyway. That is one thing I have learned, painfully. Of course. I wouldn't miss those little balls of fluff for anything. RE: ^_____________________________^ - Treepie - July 09, 2025 She let out a breath when he said he would go with them, then clarified his previous statement. The vise clenching every single one of her internal organs loosened ever so slightly. Alaric and Tikaani were as much her home as the mountain itself, so Treepie felt better knowing he would stick with them. But leaving this land still wouldn’t be easy. This isn’t goodbye, she said to no one in particular, though her eyes swept over the mountainside, it’s just… see you later. She tore her eyes from Moonspear then and looked to her companions. With a wan smile and quick dip of her head, she took those first difficult steps away from the village that was no more. |
