octans - Trailhawk - July 17, 2025

lots of tags for reference, anyone is welcome!

Soon, she'd walk beyond the Caldera.

Not far she reminded herself. Eager to keep to the rules that the elder Redhawk had put into place. No more than a territory away — and to take @Alivia or @Cinar with her. A quick scouting expedition would be good. Hunting could be set aside until the worst of the day's heat subsided. She might even try her luck at hunting in territory rather than risk it beyond their reach.

Once, she had not been one to be so cautious. However she had come here under strange circumstances and saw the need for safety. No longer was it just herself — it was a pack.

She needed to have a proper introduction with @Amalia as well. Yet she wondered if the grief would be choking there, too, as it had been when she first met @Towhee at the borders. Perhaps it might even be heavier. She ought to bring things to lighten the mood.

A toy for the babes!

What exactly did they enjoy at this stage? Her babysitting experience was practically none and she could not recall her own early days. A bone would require hunting or fussing over a cache. Not to mention it might be too dangerously sharp for young mouths. A stick then? Only she worried that would splinter or sit unwell in young bellies.

She eyed a new growth tree with a sudden thought. Its bark would be soft and the freshness might bring with it exciting scents for growing senses. Eagerly, she began to work free a branch (basically a twig) from the plant. Unaware that she likely looked more like a deer eager for a snack rather than someone attempting to be a kind packmate to the newborns in their midst.

RE: octans - Alivia - July 23, 2025

Well, well, well, what do we have here? A new recruit, locked in battle with.. a sapling?

Alivia couldn't even imagine what the woman thought she was doing, so naturally her curiosity was piqued. She approached with a wag of her tail and an amused glint in her eye.

"Thank the stars someone is finally taking care of that hideous tree," she joked. "What an eyesore."

If the woman looked up, Alivia would meet her gaze with a grin.

RE: octans - Trailhawk - July 28, 2025

thanks for scooping this!!

It was humor that reached her tall ears!

She returned the grin with sapling still clenched in between jaws. A muffled sound made around it before she realized she needed to remove it to speak properly.

A soft spat sound.

It's gift. For babies. She considered the woman and then the sapling again. It's soft, won't hurt them. Yet she did feel awfully silly for the idea now when faced with company.

Bad idea?

This asked with genuine interest. Pale, sharp head tilted to the side for a moment.

RE: octans - Alivia - July 29, 2025

Of course! Glad to have you in RHC!

Alivia tipped her head curiously. The tree was a gift for the babies?

The newcomer went on to explain about the softness, which only elicited a blink from Alivia. In her experience, most pups didn't need to be treated with kid gloves, but then again, there were some pups that could turn literally anything they found into something dangerous. Alivia hadn't spent enough time around Amalia's kids to know what sort she had.

"Bad idea?" The woman asked, and Alivia realized she may have given the wrong impression.

"Oh! No, it's a good idea. They'll definitely like it. You'll just have to show them how to use it."  Pups would play with anything and everything, as long as an adult was willing to play with them.

"I bet we can get it faster if we work together." Alivia reached up and high as she could and grabbed the sapling, then pulled it until it was taut and straining against its roots. The newcomer could either pull alongside her to unearth the sapling compeltely, or she could take advantage of the better angle to continue her chewing.

RE: octans - Trailhawk - August 07, 2025

Show them!

She had not considered that step. Would she be allowed to do such? How hands on were all the adults with the youngest members of the Redhawks? She supposed she could learn how to be a proper babysitter. It would keep her busy when she was not patrolling or sniffing out any evidence for wayward bodies.

There was some soft swing of surprise in her gut to think she did not hate the idea of being in charge of such...small things. Vulnerable lives. Trailhawk had never had the pleasure of playing big sister, but now? It might be nice.

When the other woman grabbed hold, she took the chance to chew a bit more aggressively. Molars involved, the base of the small branch was shredded until it was finally broke free from the rest of the tree.

UH-HUH! Which might have been an aha! if her mouth was not full of sapling branch. Carefully placed on the ground, her tongue ran over her teeth and felt all the soft wood that had been ground into them. Annoying, but worth it.

You are smart! She beamed with a whipping tail behind her. Have you babysat?

RE: octans - Alivia - August 11, 2025

Alivia released her grip when the sapling finally separated from its base, allowing the newcomer to wield her prize.

Her eyebrows shot up in surprise at being told she was smart. It certainly wasn't a compliment she was used to receiving. She returned both the smile and the tail-wag.

"Yeah, I have before," she answered the newcomer's question about her babysitting experience. "But not the new Caldera pups. Not yet." Picking up on the newcomer's interest in the subject, she added, "Maybe we could try babysitting them together sometime."

"I'm Alivia," she added after a beat. "You must be new to the Caldera."

RE: octans - Trailhawk - August 18, 2025

Smart indeed!

Babysitting together would always be wiser. If only to calm her nerves and give more reassurance that it would not go terrible, no? A few small babies would be well watched between not one but two adults.

And the stick would surely keep them busy but...she was getting ahead of herself!

I very much like that idea. Smart, see? Her voice a mingle between praise and playful. It was good to have this sense of unity even with those she was not so deeply bonded to!

This, of course, could be remedied.

I am. She nodded confirmation. Even if she already knew the name, it was nice to now put it to face. Towhee mentions you. The lightness that danced upon her features suggested it was only good though.

Trailhawk. This was tacked on less gracefully, remembering manners! No relation to Redhawk. Besides pack.

RE: octans - Alivia - August 19, 2025

The newcomer agreed with her suggestion, and Alivia smiled. Her grin widened as her packmate insisted once more that she was smart. She gave a humble little shrug. If you insist.

The woman had met Towhee, of course.

"Yeah, Towhee knows everyone in Teekon," Alivia replied. Despite the statement being obviously exaggerated, there was a tiny part of her that actually believed it may be true.

"I'm also no relation to the Redhawks- no blood relation at least. That puts us both in the minority around here." Around these parts, you couldn't wag your tail without smacking a Redhawk.

"..So we should definitely stick together, Trailhawk. The people close to me call me Livi, by the way." It was a pretty blatant attempt to engineer a friendship, but subtlety had never been Alivia's strong suit.

RE: octans - Trailhawk - August 22, 2025

Everyone in Teekon!

She could not help but bark some laughter out. If only because it seemed a crazy idea and, yet, she wondered what the truth of it was. Perhaps the Elder Redhawk truly had walked the lands and met every face before settling with family in the Caldera.

They bonded more over lack of blood relations. A minority, her seemingly new friend said. Truthfully it was not a thing she had paid much thought to. Perhaps because no one seemed to treat her as not a Redhawk. Towhee had opened the doors to her in a moment of loss and grief. Trailhawk had stayed even when that missing Killdeer had returned. Now she looked forward to meeting more faces, to helping with the children of Redhawk wolves.

Maybe she was not Redhawk by blood, but she certainly felt every bit of belonging to Redhawk Caldera.

Livi. A new name, but this name was for her...new friend.

I do not have name for those close to me... She admitted in a voice not unlike a girl at a sleepover, exchanging secrets in bunkbeds. But I will call you Livi and we stick together. No matter what, eh? There was no attempt made to halt the way her tail waved wildly behind her now.

RE: octans - Alivia - August 26, 2025

ready to wrap? :D

A smile broke across her features, and Alivia wagged her tail in kind.

"Bet!" she replied enthusiastically.

"Wanna go deliver that branch now?" She wasn't sure if Trailhawk had met @Amalia yet, so maybe she would appreciate an introduction. It was the least she could do for her new friend.

RE: octans - Trailhawk - September 01, 2025

wrapping <33

Yes!

Rather content to go off with her new friend. Ah! Not just a packmate! A friend!

The bounce in her step would not leave today. There was plenty of things to look forward to with such promising things occurring socially.
