✧ - Hotah - September 01, 2025 Meant for @Towhee as a follow up to our first thread but all RC members welcome
Hunting was something he could be proud of. Combat, too. He wasn't a sweet talker like his sister was, or a healer like his mother, but a machine for fighting! As he trekked the borders he did as he promised: he returned to the spot where he met the woman. He didn't want to give the impression that he was taking a break. Standing firm, he took in the scene of the caldera: a beautiful landscape. He wondered what kind of streams ran through here, what kind of fish swam through them. His demeanor showed none of these things, instead he stared forward, waiting for the dominant female to appear. RE: ✧ - Towhee - September 01, 2025 As the day wore on, scattered clouds began to appear overhead. Towhee couldn’t hear the thunder rumbling in the distance, though she could smell the tang of ozone in the air. When the breeze kicked up a little—providing some much-needed relief from the August afternoon heat—she tipped her head skyward and closed her eyes to enjoy it. When nature inevitably called, Towhee rolled onto all fours and made use of her full bladder to mark at strategic points along the nearby borderline. She had strayed a few hundred yards when the increasingly tempestuous breeze carried to her a wolf’s scent tinged with the odor of a fresh kill. She rose from her squat and pivoted, loping to meet Hotah. So he can hunt, she quipped when her orange eyes took in the carcass he’d carried, and the proof is in the pudding… or the marmot. She came to a stop before him. That’s so crazy, because one marmot is the exact price of admission here. Towhee cracked a smile for the first time since making his acquaintance. It didn’t quite reach her eyes, which remained speculative. He had mentioned their prosperity, a detail easily picked up by anyone with a good nose. Hotah wasn’t wrong about that; they were doing fairly well for themselves despite the recent hiccup. But as far as Towhee knew, that was all he knew. He probably didn’t even know the pack’s name. Before I show you the way to the nearest cache, I’d like to ask you something. I assume you lived in a pack before you turned up here. What made you leave it? RE: ✧ - Trailhawk - September 01, 2025 cameo!
A stranger had come — and then gone. Towhee handled it and Trailhawk only loosely followed whatever had occurred. There was no need to crowd things if the Elder had it all under control. Yet it was indeed the scent of a meal and the stranger that had her round back towards where Redhawk and stranger met. Curious and only lightly impressed. It seemed the Elder Redhawk still had it handled. She hovered only for a moment, hoping to gleam something from the stranger. There would be time for a proper introduction if he stuck around. Unless noticed and bid to stay, she'd go off to trot a patrol. RE: ✧ - Hotah - September 01, 2025 Hotah’s shoulders shook with a low laugh, rough around the edges but genuine. A marmot for membership, huh? That’s a hell of a deal. Guess I should’ve brought two, just to be safe.He set the little body down at her paws, a kind of peace offering, though his eyes lingered on hers a moment longer this time. Her question settled in heavier. He drew in a slow breath, gaze sliding off toward the rim of the caldera, before settling on her so she could understand. Yeah… I was with a family once. Small. We weren’t much of a pack, more like holding on together. Didn’t last. His jaw worked, a flicker of something old in his expression. Hunters. Farmers. Guns, traps, poison—take your pick. They did the job. He sighed. Been moving since then. Figured surviving on my own was all there was left. But winter’s coming, and I’ve had enough of ghosts for company. So here I am. Hotah shrugged, trying to make it sound lighter than it was. And if all it costs is a marmot, I’ll keep the tab running. RE: ✧ - Towhee - September 01, 2025 Towhee said nothing as he explained a bit about his past, though her upper teeth sank gently into her lower lip when he mentioned ghosts for company. He almost certainly meant metaphorically, though his words stirred a strange feeling within her. Her specters had vanished, if they’d ever really been there, and she still couldn’t decide whether or not she’d enjoyed their company. Hotah quickly lightened the mood again by returning to the topic of marmots. Towhee nodded, motioning for him to follow as she turned to lead the way into the territory, whereupon she discovered she had a ghostly companion after all! The Elder bobbed her head at Trailhawk, a twitch of her tail inviting the she-wolf to fall into step with them. Trailhawk, this is Hotah, our newest recruit. Hotah, Trailhawk,Towhee introduced. She paused to ponder a moment, then asked Trailhawk, Would you like to show him around for me? Starting with the locations of our caches. Although I’ll take that, she said to Hotah, sniffing toward the marmot. Don’t worry, I’ll put it and all future marmots to good use. RE: ✧ - Trailhawk - September 17, 2025 sorry for the wait!! happy to play out the tour or wrap this for something more up to date :)
Ah! She had been spotted! Not that she was hiding, but she had been content to let the Elder Redhawk handled this. Yet beamed with some warm sense of pride to be trusted to be hands on with their newest member. Come,She invited Hotah. An interesting name! Granted she was only lucky to have a name that fit such a location she lived in. There were plenty of names here that did not. Caches — then you patrol with me.Her tail offered a wide wave. It would be good to place his scent among their own. Then she, too, could point out favored locations and trails for him to put to good use. RE: ✧ - Hotah - September 17, 2025 good with me~
Hotah handed off the marmot to Towhee with a brief nod, then turned his attention to the pale she-wolf. Trailhawk’s easy confidence was hard to miss, and he dipped his head in quiet acknowledgment.Trailhawk,he said, testing her name once before falling in step behind her. His dark tail flicked once as he moved. He didn’t say much else, just matched her pace, ready to learn the lay of the land— and to start earning his place here. RE: ✧ - Trailhawk - September 19, 2025 Her name was tested on the air so it seemed only fitting to offer the same — Hotah. She hummed without the smoothness he might have spoken his own name with. Regardless, they were now even and with this she felt some small sense of growing ease. Now onto the tour. Where she would make sure she did a very thorough job pointing out each thing they encountered. closing us out
