fish out of water - Disa - September 03, 2025 And then there were four. Disa grieved Leandros more than she had expected to. He had been, she realised, her only friend - or at least a start of something friendly. The Husband Hunt died with him; the thought of wandering the world alone when the season was on the verge of changing was not an appealing prospect. She considered leaving Soto to rot alongside his plants. The bad man with the bad work, supported only by the one-eyed and a sad moose. No – not yet. He had to be punished, but the how of it still eluded her. The morning had a chill. Disa tucked her paws tight against her body as she looked out over the lake – and spotted movement in the water. You can be that movement!
RE: fish out of water - Beau - September 03, 2025 Beau emerged from the water lacking any sort of grace, a mallard hanging from his jaws alluding to a succesful escapade. He was surprised to see another had appeared in his time underwater, freezing to stare for a brief moment before exiting the lake. For the sake of being polite, he resisted shaking the water from his fur while the stranger was in range for rogue droplets. When'd you get here?He asked, half muffled before spitting the duck onto the ground. RE: fish out of water - Disa - September 05, 2025 Disa scuttled back a few steps when a whole wolf appeared from the deep, clutching a fat duck between his teeth. How long had he held his breath? How distracted did you have to be to miss a wolf diving into the water? Disa blinked away the droplets that found their way into her eyes, and stared dumbly at the stranger. He had a broad collar of cream-colored fur and bright, hazel eyes. The air of someone that thinks he owns the world. Disa narrowed her eyes ever so slightly. "I couldn't say. Lost some time to thought," she replied, eyeing the duck. "Are you sharing?" RE: fish out of water - Beau - September 05, 2025 The smells of lake water and duck that had previously clouded his nose made way for the stranger's scent, unmistakeabley familiar for the lands which she came from. That depends, are you?He raised a brow, taking a brief moment to undeniably eye her up. Tell me yer name, desert flower. Laying with the bird clutched beneath his paws, Beau began to tear off a fair sized chunk, presumably to share with Disa. For some time he had found himself curious of what the pack had gotten themselves into after his exit.. and it seemed to him that an opportunity had fallen into his lap. RE: fish out of water - Disa - September 05, 2025 Disa matched his raised brow with one of her own - window dressing for the look of mild indignation she at the double entendre. Desert flower smoothed her expression into curiosity. "You know them," she said, letting her forelegs glide forward until she rested on her belly. "Verapaz. Did they..." We, her internal voice said half-heartedly. "Did they try to force their green on you?" Her name was now a hostage. RE: fish out of water - Beau - September 05, 2025 Nope. His response came, a slight pop in the word. They don't want worker bees tasting the honey, unless that changed.Beau was sure that he would have taken to it, otherwise. He was undoubtedly impulsive and his time in Verapaz often had him searching for release. Pausing his splitting of the duck, he stared at Disa rather expectantly. Did she plan on telling him what her name was, or not? It seemed like an important thing to know should they be having a conversation. RE: fish out of water - Disa - September 06, 2025 Disa's distaste was plain on her face. So he had been Verapaz, which meant he had dealt the green - or at least seemed like he would not thought twice about it. "I see. You did what big daddy Soto said." She would probably lose half a duck for saying it, but the hunger situation was not yet dire. "Picked his plants, dealt his poison, gargled his seed. Or?" She stared at him. If he had left, perhaps it was because he disagreed with Soto's "purpose". RE: fish out of water - Beau - September 06, 2025 Beau could only stare for a moment before he let out a boisterous laugh. No, why d'ya think I'm out here?It did surprise him that despite her scent, they seemed to share similar opinions.. that and it made him all the more curious. Call me stupid, because it was, but I followed a girl there. Soto never liked me, I never liked him.Their first meeting had been unpleasant, and it set the tone for their relationship. He had never been one to hold grudges, though. It had been easy to move on once he left.. but that didn't mean he'd go belly up should he and the segundo meet again. But what about you, left recently or..?He raised a brow once more. For all he knew she could simply be venting, everyone needed to now and again. Finishing the tear, he tossed Disa her half of the duck. A quiet wish for her to stick around just a bit longer. RE: fish out of water - Disa - September 07, 2025 He laughed – Disa was relieved. It played out on her face as a proto-smile; a twitch of the lips and a softening of the eyes. "Had to check," Disa said, and put a paw out for half of the duck. She pictured @Soto's dark face, and named the sensation in her belly disgust because it scared her to dissect it further. She began to pluck feathers. "There isn't much to leave. Safiya and Kemal, who just lost is brother. That's it. If Verapaz was a force once, it isn't now. But Soto," she paused, searching Beau's face for secrets. "He stays." Disa shrugged. "Who did you follow? Safiya?" She couldn't imagine the warrior princess indulging in the spectacle of nonsense that was romantic relationships. RE: fish out of water - Beau - September 07, 2025 So, Verapaz was dying. Beau recognized neither of the names she offered, painting a frown on his face. Where had they all gone? Leto, Tierra, Arslan, Hiro.. even the man Leto brought home, had they all left? Disa's question pulled Beau from his own, refocusing on the woman. No - it was Leto. We were there when the pack formed. It stung a bit to speak about her, especially after so long. She was following a man there, from what I understand. I must be a hopeless romantic because I thought I could convince her to be with me instead, 'specially after her boyfriend disappeared. But, here he was. Still lady-less with potential bastard children floating around. Beau tore into his half of the duck, turning his head away from Disa to spit out the feathers. I wish I would'a set Soto straight. Someone needed to.He wasn't so sure why he never had. Beau was confident in his own skills, but maybe at the time Soto had too much support for it to be a fair fight. RE: fish out of water - Disa - September 09, 2025 Disa did the nods and made the facial expressions - mostly. She didn't know how she was supposed to react to Beau pursuing a woman thay wasn't even available and calling it romantic. A poor investment, more like. She didn't mention the children. Why rub salt in the wounds? Disa continued to pluck while Beau tucked into his half of the bird, feathers and all. "I want put him in a pit and watch him scuttle around like a bug," she mused. The bad man with the bad work, who pulled her in despite what he represented. "You really never tried it? His purpose, as he put it." And then, because he didn't seem all bad, "My name is Disa." RE: fish out of water - Beau - September 11, 2025 Beau couldn't help but let out a throaty laugh at the visual. I think that'd suit him just fine!Cruel and unusal punishment was not something he particularly enjoyed, but for Soto? He couldn't help finding joy in the idea. No, I never tried. He reassured her, a shake of his head just to confirm it. I'm more of an adrenaline junkie, always have been. You ain't gonna catch me eating down a leaf to get the same high I could get from a chase. And finally, he got her name. It's good to meet you, Disa. You can call me Beau. It had been some time since he had been treated to such good conversation, not to mention a chance to spit venom with someone who understood his frustration. So, where are you off to next? RE: fish out of water - Disa - September 11, 2025 Beau laughed and Disa grinned. He was easy company, she decided. Immune to her poor phrasing and defective filters. Not terrible at all. Finally, the duck was ready to eat. Disa finished it in three mighty chomps, and chewed for a long time while making weird eye contact. "Hi, Beau," she said, swallowing loudly. "I'm looking at my options for winter." She gave him The Eye. "Are you interested? I saw a sad lonely wolf in the next valley over that looked like he could use friends. Two is not a strong number, but three... or four." For all she knew, @Sven might have found a buddy. RE: fish out of water - Beau - September 11, 2025 For a brief moment, Beau had the face of a man who had won the lottery. Well, Disa.He clicked his tongue, it wasn't entirely the offer he expected. You asking me to join a pack? I'm not much of a pack wolf. But, he was pretty lonely these days. No denying that. I'll tell you what. Next time you pass through the flatlands give me a shout, I'll give you an answer then. It wasn't a choice he could make on a whim, he was just starting to enjoy life in the plains again. Is that fair? RE: fish out of water - Disa - September 12, 2025 Disa rolled her eyes and offered a small twist of a smile. Not much of a pack wolf meant not much for responsibilities, but Disa wasn't interested in building a nation. "Pack, band, whatever, You want food, don't you? Protection? I'm sure we can find you someone to moon over. You don't have to put on a special hat or worship an old tree. Just occasionally do what I say and go where I tell you." She flashed teeth in a grin and stood, stretching her hind legs subtly. "Yes, fair. Thanks for the meal. I'll come back through before the leaves stop falling. Bye, duck-diver Beau." you can pp her going east!
