spring - Hakumele - September 03, 2025 He was going to follow his plans to move west, slowly. The warm summer days were coming to an end as the earth made way for autumn, and while the sight of orange, red, and yellow leafs were certainly beautiful, Hakumele only thought of how his bones would ache when the weather inevitably shifted. He wanted to enjoy what was left of it, that and he needed to eat plenty in case hunting became difficult. That took time and effort that slowed his travels, particularly with how he searched his food now. He refused to let illness take him the way it had the previous winter; had Sialuk not found him he surely would have died, and Hakumele didn't trust that he would luck out twice. Carrying a crab freshly pulled from the sea, the shark-toothed was quick to throw the creature against a rock before the pincers could grab him. Just a few more hits and the shell would crack open; a far easier strategy than attempting to pull it apart himself. Crabs were a good treat, and one he found himself eating far more often as it was an easy catch on the seaside.. if you knew how to handle them, that was. Only a few minutes passed before he was sat with the tender meat ready to be ripped into, but he chose to pause before beginning his meal and look out onto the sea. There was no reason to rush today. RE: spring - Riptyde - September 09, 2025 The cape offered less cover than Riptyde's usual haunts, but the waves masked his motion, and he was still small enough to make the rocks his hiding place. Slick stones threatened to toss him in the water of so much as put a toe out of line, but he was well practiced. Mama hadn't named him after the sea for nothing. But how good was this stranger? Riptyde had made a game out of seeing how close he could get to the crabeater without being caught, but how well he'd succeeded, well, he couldn't really tell. Sure, the man had given no indication he knew he wasn't alone, but strangers could be good at pretending, a wheeling gull once told him, and Riptyde considered this as he peered out over the edge off his rock. Only one way to find out. HEY!he punched his voice into the air in the moment the stranger seemed to settle into some kind of peace. If he turned around, round blue eyes would meet him, set within a mess of salt-spun fur and watching with s glint for lines of surprise, a startle, some way of seeing if this stranger was a pretender or not. RE: spring - Hakumele - September 09, 2025 Hakumele had thought he felt eyes on him, so it was of no surprise when someone called out. He turned his head, raising a brow at the silver-coated child - it was strange to see a pup alone in an area like this. Where's your mother? He was quick to ask, his brow furrowing. Haku wasn't so good with kids, despite having two of his own. Once they were old enough to sit still and listen to his teachings he could deal with them a bit better, but at this age he found his efforts to be hopeless. Pulling his meal to his chest, his eyes moved about for a moment with hopes of spotting a parent - preferably one who didn't appear angry. RE: spring - Riptyde - September 10, 2025 Well, guano. What was a boy supposed to make of a reaction like that? The stranger seemed positively unfazed, which would have made him a pretender if he hadn't asked him about his mom. Pretenders smooth talked and coddled. Some of them attacked with teeth. This man did neither. He was stiff as the rock Riptyde crouched behind, and about as smooth as it, too. And if a wolf wasn't a pretender, well, that meant they were almost a friend. I dunno,Riptyde said with a casual shrug, and hopped on the rock so he could get a better look at the treasures the stranger guarded. Are those crabs?! Is that what the man had been dashing against the rock. They got bad pinchers, and he rubbed his nose. Hadn't tried hunting them since - but this man seemed unhurt. How'd you get 'em without 'em gettin' you? RE: spring - Hakumele - September 11, 2025 Well, shit. What was he supposed to make of that? Had someone ditched their child here, and he had been the one to find them? Though, he supposed they had found him. He pushed out a breath, listening to the babe with a perfectly calm expression despite his now reeling mind. Hakumele knew that his conscience would never let him leave the little one, that was just too cruel. Someone would come for them, he felt confident of that, but until then he would have to play babysitter. Do you want me to show you?He suggested with a raised brow. I need to eat this one first, but I'll let you have a portion.Gesturing for the pup to come closer, Hakumele ripped off a fair amount of crab meat and tossed it a short distance away. |
