∷ x̂uux̂ - Kanuux - September 19, 2025 ![]() The world was different here. Softer, though the ridgeline bit at his paws with every step. Kanuux moved like a shadow carved from ice and sunlight, broad shoulders rolling under his pale coat as he scythed the earth with heavy strides. The air no longer burned his lungs with frost, and yet he found no warmth in it— not the kind he sought. South. He had left the glacier behind, its blue cliffs and black storms, seeking what lay beyond. Villages. Fire. Wives. The old rites said a man did not grow strong alone. Icy eyes swept the expanse below, searching for distant smoke or movement. Instead, only the hush of wind answered him, curling the brine from his fur. His thoughts drifted briefly to Taktu, his lodgebrother, and whether his path had found him something more than silence. AW
RE: ∷ x̂uux̂ - Taktunir - September 20, 2025 — he had thought the trail might vanish with the melt, that kanuux’s shadow would finally dissolve into earth, but it had not. taktu, in the end, chose to follow. every step south gnawed at him: with the ridges easing, the air thinning, trees clawing into sky where once there was only white and black. it was wrong. all of it. wrong, and yet it was here kanuux had gone. the gods had given taktunir nothing except the rasp of his own breath, the empty groan of ice collapsing in the distance. and so he walked, thinking maybe he was already dead, and this was what came after; endless earth, endless hunger. but— suddenly, his scent was there. a thread of brine and old storms, carried south where it did not belong. kanuux. his chest tightened, breath catching and for a long moment he only stood, head bowed against the wind. the truth of it swelled in him. kanuux. RE: ∷ x̂uux̂ - Kanuux - September 20, 2025 The wind carried the sound of paws before the voice reached him. Kanuux lifted his head from the ridge, icy eyes narrowing, disbelieving at first. But then— there it was. That scent he knew as well as his own. Taktu,he rumbled, voice low, almost rough with the surprise. He stepped forward, broad shoulders cutting against the dim light, scars catching in faint glimmer. You followed. The words were not a question. His gaze searched his lodgebrother’s, hard and steady, before softening only by a margin. You did not have to. He looked past him, northward where the ice had been, where their blood still lingered on the glacier. Then back again. Yet here you are. RE: ∷ x̂uux̂ - Taktunir - September 20, 2025 — the sight of him was almost too much to bear, as if the long miles had been some cruel trick, a punishment carved into his bones. taktu had begun to think he might not ever see his lodgebrother again. his paws shift over stone and cold sand and taktunir blinks in disbelief upon the old, familiar sight of the wolf. had time turned them into strangers? but no. it could not possibly have. afterall, it really had not been that long! but over some miles, during some long and cold nights, it felt like eternity. kanuux and taktunir had been raised together. they had hunted together. when taktunir doubted in himself, kanuux had been there to speak truth into him. i did, brother.taktu murmurs, raising a paw to press--hesitantly--to the chest of kanuux. and i would again. where else would i go? RE: ∷ x̂uux̂ - Kanuux - September 20, 2025 Kanuux did not move at first when Taktu’s paw pressed to his chest. The touch was familiar, though it came with the sting of memory. You should have stayed,he said, voice low, more gravel than air. His icy gaze searched his brother’s face. With the men. With your promise. Was it not a Sharadoii woman they said you would take? The words were not sharp, but heavy, a reminder of duty left behind. Kanuux’s jaw tightened, scars along his temple catching in the dim light. RE: ∷ x̂uux̂ - Taktunir - September 26, 2025 — yes, taktu exhales. a sharadoii woman by the name of ash cry.his gaze drifts, briefly, toward the north—toward the long black line of the glacier. but what use is a husband to a woman when his hands are not made for the hearth? he passes that searching, soulful stare of his once more to kanuux. a firm smile. you, kanuux, are the pinnacle of what a seal hunter man should be. but i do not want sons just to watch them dig graves. i do not want a fire if it burns with someone else’s dream. he draws his paw away from kanuux and lets it fall soft upon the beachside shore under them. what is offered is not what i seek. you know me. my paws are better suited to reading the wind and feeding our people. his eyes narrow. if you wish me to go, brother, say it then. RE: ∷ x̂uux̂ - Kanuux - September 26, 2025 still trying to figure out his posting format, haha
kanuux’s jaw tightened, heavy head turning away as if the weight of taktu’s words pressed too close to his chest. the sand cracked faint beneath his wide paw, a sound like disdain in the hush of the shore.he knew his lodgebrother was right. taktu had always spoken with the wind in his lungs, truth curling from him like smoke. yet still kanuux scowled at it, for it was easier to be angered than to admit his own envy. a wife. children. the warmth of a hearth filled with laughter. the simple, rooted life. that was the strength of men, too. not only the hunt, not only the blood on snow. kanuux had chosen the march south, chosen this long road with no promise of women, no pups tumbling at his heels. he looked at taktu again, icy eyes narrowing, voice rough when it came. you speak as though i would drive you away. his scarred muzzle twitched. but we have come all this way. better you had stayed, filled your lodge with ash cry and her sons. his gaze swept the treeline, restless, as if it might answer for him. instead, you are here. and now i must make something of it. |
