Back before these calloused hands and all this work - Hotah - September 22, 2025 The otter still dripped when Hotah padded into the heart of the caldera, its slick body clamped firm between his teeth. The musk of river and brine clung to his coat, a reminder of the chase he and @Trailhawk had shared along the banks. Slimy little bastards, but worth the trouble—this one would feed mouths that needed it more than he did. He moved at an easy lope, shoulders rolling with the weight of the catch, ears swiveling for the sound of voices. It was Amalia he sought— her, and perhaps the little ones that clung so close to her shadow. They deserved the richer meat, the softness of fur to nose into, maybe even the paw or tail of the otter to chew at when hunger was sated. Hotah slowed near a familiar clearing, amber eyes scanning for her pale frame among the brush. The gift hung loose now from his jaws, offered plain and without ceremony, though his tail gave a single sway behind him. @Amalia?he called around the wet pelt, voice muffled but warm. RE: Back before these calloused hands and all this work - Amalia - September 22, 2025 Amalia shifted and moved into view. Green eyes on the wolf in front of her. He was new. She dipped her head. Hello.a crinkled of a maw when she smiled. What brings ya? RE: Back before these calloused hands and all this work - Hotah - September 22, 2025 Hotah’s head lifted when her green eyes found him, his jaws still clamped around the sleek, damp body of the otter. At her smile, he stepped forward and let it drop at her paws with a soft thud, the river scent still clinging to it. For you,he said simply, voice low but warm. His gaze flicked past her for a moment, as if expecting to see the little ones tucked close. Then back to her. Call it a push present. I wasn’t here when you gave birth, so… figured I’d make it up how I can. A faint grin tugged at the corners of his mouth, boyish despite the heft of his frame. Otter’s rich. Good for you. Good for the pups too. RE: Back before these calloused hands and all this work - Amalia - October 17, 2025 Amalia tilted her head. Watching as the fat river otter fell to the ground. Her kids would like that. So this was Hotah. She laughed at his next words. A laugh like she always did with her whole body and eyes. Well I appreciate it. She sniffed gently. I think the kids will like that. Very much. And the pelt, perhaps i'll clean it up for TOwhee's push present. RE: Back before these calloused hands and all this work - Hotah - October 22, 2025 Hotah’s laugh came quick and genuine at her mention of Towhee’s “push present.” He tipped his head, teeth flashing in good humor. Then I’ll have to keep the otters coming,he said, warmth threading through the rough edge of his voice. Wouldn’t want to be outdone by Towhee’s gift pile. He glanced down at the catch between them, satisfaction in the curve of his grin. You’ve got a good idea there, though. That pelt’ll clean up nice — soft enough for the little ones to curl up on. RE: Back before these calloused hands and all this work - Amalia - October 23, 2025 Amalia loved her grandmother in law. Felt a bit sad that she had never met her mother in law, because surely she had to be just as wonderful if her mother was anything to go by. She tilted her head in thought. A small smile graced her face. Yes it will be. And Towhee, well she deserves the world. She was there for me, when I needed her most. And I will make sure that all her days are wondrous if I could. RE: Back before these calloused hands and all this work - Hotah - October 28, 2025 Hotah’s smile deepened, warm and easy, as he listened. There was something about the way Amalia spoke of Towhee that tugged at him—a softness beneath her usual composure that he found endearing. She’s lucky to have you,he said, voice smooth with quiet admiration. Not many would speak so kindly, let alone mean it.His tail swayed once, slow, a subtle rhythm that matched the fondness in his tone. Towhee’s got that way about her though, doesn’t she? Makes you want to give back what she gives everyone else. He leaned back on his haunches, the hint of a grin tugging at his mouth. Still, don’t go trying to outshine her just yet. If you make all her days wondrous, she’ll never let any of us forget it. There was laughter in his eyes then, light and teasing, before he dipped his head in a small, sincere nod. You’ve got a good heart, Amalia. I think the whole caldera’s better for it. RE: Back before these calloused hands and all this work - Amalia - November 02, 2025 Amalia had come to the teekon a little lost. She had tried and failed many times to find a place to exist happily. And she hadn't until she met Killer and his family let her stay. And now. Well now. A small smile. Amalia laughed then And she shouldn't. We should give her what is due.a teasing note beneath her voice. She knew how Towhee could be. Brash and bold. I thank you for that. But I am only doing what I should. Treating others as I want to be treated. There's enough darkness in this world. I don't wish to add to it. RE: Back before these calloused hands and all this work - Hotah - November 09, 2025 Hotah’s grin warmed, slow and easy, like sunlight breaking through the clouds. He tilted his head slightly, his gaze soft but amused as he regarded her. You give yourself too little credit, Amalia,he said, voice rich and steady, carrying that familiar thread of warmth that always seemed to linger when he spoke. Kindness may be what we should do, but that doesn’t mean many do it. You make it look natural. He huffed a quiet laugh, his tail swaying lazily behind him. And as for Towhee—his tone turned playful, a spark of mischief lighting his eyes, —I think if anyone’s earned a little spoiling, it’s her. Though you might be the only one who could get away with teasing her about it. For a beat, he studied her, the humor fading into something gentler. The world could use more wolves like you,he admitted, sincere beneath the charm. If there’s light left to find in all this, I think you carry a bit of it. RE: Back before these calloused hands and all this work - Amalia - November 10, 2025 Amalia returned the smile. It was nice to know that she was valued. A soft smile, a gentle laugh. Well I know no other way to be. So i'm glad it shines through. Kindness costs nothing. She shook her head. I don't know about that. She may not even let me get away with it. A shift of her weight a gentle gaze to the littles one, returned to Hotah. Thank you. Truly.A gentle sway of her tail and she existed in the quiet. Happy to simply spend pleasant times with a pack mate. RE: Back before these calloused hands and all this work - Hotah - November 13, 2025 Hotah’s grin deepened, warm and knowing. Then we’re of the same mind,he said softly. Kindness has a way of coming back around. His gaze followed hers toward the little ones before settling back on her. You’ll be just fine, Amalia. She’s got a soft spot for hearts like yours. A quiet chuckle, the sound low in his chest. And if she doesn’t, well—she’ll have me to answer to. fade in your next?
RE: Back before these calloused hands and all this work - Amalia - November 20, 2025 Amalia firmly believed that Kindness was free. It cost nothing to be kind to those you cared about. Nothing at all. But she also knew that sometimes it took a while to come back around. That was okay too. It always seemed to come when you needed it most. Amalia gave a soft nod. She settled to her haunches firmer. And looked to the little ones. I do apologize, but I must get them to keep their nap. And honestly I'd like one myself. You come back though, yea? She would wait for his affirmative answer and then she'd settle around the little ones and let her mind dream. |
