The boneyard. - Towhee - October 16, 2025 She had gained a grandson and paid quite the price of admission. Days later, Towhee was still thinking about everything he’d told her. She tried to push it out of her mind and succeeded only for it to wander down another dark path. She hadn’t seen @Trailhawk lately and feared the woman might have absconded in the wake of Towhee’s pregnancy. This presumption was probably as narcissistic as it was paranoid, though she couldn’t shake it as she plodded heavily along the borders. This would be her final patrol, she’d decided. She was heading into her seventh week of pregnancy and getting wider every day. Her back and leg were both aching quite often—probably due to the cooler weather as much as her condition—and her instincts were demanding she begin nesting. Normally, she would’ve balked at the thought of bedrest, though right now it sounded kind of nice. Besides, even with Trailhawk in the wind—she frowned deeply—there were many wolves capable of looking after patrols. Reluctantly, she slowed her step and ground to a gentle halt on the west side of the caldera. It was early afternoon but already the sun was sliding down in the sky, cutting a mild glare. Towhee squinted, her tail twitching as the pups inside her stirred. She ran her tongue along her teeth carefully, making note of how much it hurt still, and eventually swiveled to face the slope and this last climb for awhile. RE: The boneyard. - Chaudry - October 23, 2025 He would go to Moonspear, but not yet. He would go home, but not yet. There was a strange sense of anxiety bubbling up, a horrible ache that he wished he had never known. He could feel his stomach coiling from a spoiled meal. It wasn't settling well. He thought he could cry, everything felt so hopeless on his own - almost on his own. Phobos hadn't left. Maman would have kept him fed. Maman never would have let him fall into this state. But she had been taken away by the halfbreed, hypnotised and pulled into his trap. Chaudry spat at the memory. He cut through his own haze to register his surroundings. Borderlines ahead, and close by a woman swollen with pregnancy. He could smell her, but he was yet to spot the stranger. RE: The boneyard. - Towhee - October 27, 2025 Let me know if I need to make any changes to this post!
A stench wafted into her nose before she’d taken more than five steps. Towhee grimaced, the smell hitting so much more intensely in her condition. She could feel her gorge rising as she almost reluctantly turned her head, trying to pinpoint the source of the foul odor. A wolf approached, his size making her wary. Towhee immediately noted the stiffness in his gait, as well as the pelt thrown over his shoulders. She thought very briefly of Kukutux, though this was no fox skin or deer hide. It looked like it could’ve belonged to a wolf, which made her fur stand on end. She couldn’t speak well if at all, though that didn’t stop the Elder from letting loose a loud growl. The vibrations hurt the root of her injured tongue, though she paid no attention to that. Her orange eyes bored into the stranger, her demeanor demonstrating that he wasn’t welcome to come any closer. RE: The boneyard. - Chaudry - October 31, 2025 A growl let him find her. Chaudry did not come any further, but he did stare with wide, wide eyes. She was not someone he knew. Pensez-vous qu'elle les ait?He asks Phobos in a whisper. I'm searching for my sons. He doesn't say anything further. Chaudry has always been a man of few words, but now especially. Then again, what more needs to be said? He's searching for his sons. He wants to know if this woman has them. RE: The boneyard. - Towhee - November 03, 2025 His lips moved, though Towhee couldn’t tell what he was saying. Her eyes bored into his, narrowing into slits as another growl rolled out of her chest. It quieted momentarily when he said something she did catch, though her expression remained hard. It would be useless to attempt Ptero, though the Redhawk really couldn’t articulate currently. Her speaking voice was difficult to understand in the best of times; lately, it was downright impossible to decipher what she was saying. Towhee wouldn’t bother trying. She just shook her head emphatically, hoping he would get the message: Haven’t seen them. Although some part of her empathized with his plight, Towhee couldn’t help him, and made this clear by motioning for him to leave. He didn’t have to know her conlang to understand the universal gesture. RE: The boneyard. - Chaudry - November 03, 2025 She shook her head, and for a moment Chaudry only stared. He seemed to be listening for something given the twitch of his ears. He thought that she was lying to him. His lip twitched, his eyes narrowed into a glare. May your canal suffocate them on the way out. Clearly, the remark was pointed at her swollen stomach. Chaudry didn't do anything though, turning and leaving as he was told to. He wasn't going to hit a pregnant woman. RE: The boneyard. - Towhee - November 05, 2025 He said something that took an extra beat to parse. Had he really just said what she thought he did? Towhee blinked, then watched him take his leave. She didn’t move a muscle until he was out of sight. Canal, she thought to herself as she finally swiveled away. Canal! Who calls it that? Towhee mused incredulously at first… then with increasing amusement as she crested the slope. She lingered to take in the views for the last time for a while. From up here, she spotted the strange male off in the distance. Towhee shuddered a little, then with a dry huff of laughter, she descended toward the caldera itself. |
