Moon Says - Etienne - October 17, 2025 Golden gaze took in the waning hour. As the stars and the moon hinted along teh grass. Sparkling like broken glass. Soft footfalls, quietier than even the world around. And for a moment, Etienne simply breathed. One breath, two breaths, three. Taking in the cold, blowing out the warm. A gentle closing of eyes. Taking a moment to simply mingle in the silence. He wondered if he was quiet enough, could the silence simply take him. Because he was exhausted. RE: Moon Says - Disa - November 05, 2025 Having established herself in their new home, Disa left it again - this time with every intention of returning, armed with anything and everything that might help make her garden a success come spring. A passing traveller shared horror stories of water hemlock, and an unpleasant older woman that introduced herself as Irkalla had much to say about sagewort and black elm. It felt good to have a task. The only other wolf in Emberwood Forest looked as though he could use a break from tasks. Disa watched him draw and release breaths as though each one cost him dearly. When he did not move on, she piped up from her hiding place among the trees: "You look sad and tired." RE: Moon Says - Etienne - November 05, 2025 Etienne no longer had a home. But had he had one in a long time really. Pack after pack. He joined and left or it left. And he was alone again. he didn't even have his mountain born anymore. He had no idea where Anselm had gone. But he didn't hate him for it. He knew that perhaps it was too much, perhaps he was too much. A noise to his side and he turned golden gaze towards it. Searching in the gloom of the forest and the moonlight. A gentle touch of tongue to teeth when he caught the creatures gaze. A constant condition. I be Etienne. He spoke softly, fearful to stir up the silence. And as he spoke it filled the space, felt large and he pinned his ears a second then pushed them forward, up high to catch her words. RE: Moon Says - Disa - November 06, 2025 His spoke quietly, and Disa made note to lower her voice to match even though she did not understand why they were whispering. Mimicry had served her well in the past. She crept closer. Etienne smelled faintly of the sea. "Disa," she said quietly, meeting his golden eyes with her silver ones. "I am never sad," she said, and frowned at the realization. "Or anything at all. What are you sad about all the time?" RE: Moon Says - Etienne - November 06, 2025 Etienne was always quiet. His voice hardly ever rose. But his point was always given. He supposed in part it was the no nonsense way he ahd of speaking. You didn't need to raise your voice when conviction was your friend. Tilted head. Golden eyes rising to the sky and then lowering towards where the sea would be. De sea makes me sad. I was raise' near it an' 'er takes as muc' as 'er gives. an' 'er 'as taken muc' from me lately. But all 'er has given me back was my life. 'er will not take me. He cleared his throat. And shifted. Dat be soundin' way worse dan I 'ad planned. I 'ave lost many of my loved ones recently. An' it be 'ard to take. RE: Moon Says - Disa - November 17, 2025 Etienne's was a true tale of woe - Disa did not envy his capacity to feel deeply in that moment. She did not know what to make of the ocean's apparent ability to give, so she crept a little closer, and, from a safe distance, asked, "Did they drown?" Disa had never understood why anyone would want to live so close to the sea and its unpredictable moods. RE: Moon Says - Etienne - November 20, 2025 Etienne tilted his head and looked out over the forest. As if seeing faces and eyes of those he had lost. He turned over each of their memories. Digging deeply into his thoughts. How he missed all of them. But had he been close to any of them? Oh Suzu he had. Precious lovely Suzu. Some did. My world was built from the backs of strong women. Women dat felt dere is no need for a man, except to 'ave de babies usually. Some may tink differently. He thought of Suzu then, Suzu who had loved Swordfish since they were children and he had let her down. One of myf amily 'er lay wit' de wrong one. 'e get it in 'is 'ead 'er now belong to 'im and 'im and 'is crew stole my family. Dey kept dem 'idden and abused until we got dem out. But by den it was far too late. And my sister C'ani she drowned saving 'er babies. |
