moushoom - Séverine - October 19, 2025 Leaving it vague in case Speckletooth is still with her! Really wanna write.
Gradually the embers of the rise faded as the trees began to sag their heads, or so it appeared to Severine. The rustling of the wind through the eaves of the tall aspens gave way to a quiet that she did not appreciate at first, as it was not expected. There was the smell in the air of an oncoming rain. When she looked up, however, the grayness of any cloud-cover was masked by the many nodded heads of the saule pleureur. She walked for a while, picking her way among the many trunks. On occasion a whisp of air would penetrate among the boughs and lift a tendril, or make it tremble, and at times Severine felt touched not just in the physical sense, but something deeper and more profound. There remained some sign that this place had once been home to others; for the most part it was abandoned, overtaken by the earth mother once more — but she thought, 'This might have been a sleeping place,' on a few occasions, or 'This here, an altar for meats?' — speculation, mostly. Playing at understanding. Wandering for so long that the rain had begun in earnest, but the willows were the ones to weep, and not a drop touched upon Severine. |
