Now all she does is sit by the water.
Serein had turned the words over in her mind for hours after he'd left. She'd taken the time to clear out the old debris in her chosen den, kicking the loose dirt away to make it a bit neater. In the coming months she would fill the den with various soft scraps of pelts and velvety dried plants. For now, this was enough.
She sought @Defne when the sun was high and the mesa cast a long shadow. The old woman was by the water, as Kemal had predicted. Serein didn't bother to greet her just yet. She strode up to the water and hopped into it with her front paws, sending up a splash.

Kemal had moved her back to the mesa where she was originally found. Defne had been irritated at first, wondering why he had bothered to move her at all just to bring her back here only a few weeks later.
But there is still water to sit by here, gazing into her reflection while Yavru sunbathes beside her back leg. He notices the stranger first, slithering away to the safety beneath Defne.
When she hears the splash, she looks to the younger wolf. She's young, and pretty enough. Smells like her leader son.
