when I'm dead and gone - Easy - October 23, 2025

hoping for @Raindrop
Easy had waited until she was sure that she'd conceived, not wanting to answer any questions about her status with awkward uncertainty. Once her belly began to swell, however, she knew that it had taken, and she'd excelled at each and every pregnancy before.

Carefree and unburdened, Easy came to the borders of her nephew's home pack — his village, as they called it — and howled to announce her presence.

She was gratified to find Valiant's scent as she sniffed around the outskirts of the pack. He seemed healthier than the last time they'd seen each other, and she was grateful for that fact. He was growing old as well, only a year or two behind her, and she worried for his emotional health most especially. But, catching the scent of another pregnant (and familiar) female nearby, she began to suspect that something wonderful had happened.

Whoever came to greet Easy Morningside, they would find her with an impish smile on her gracefully aging face.

RE: when I'm dead and gone - Raindrop - October 23, 2025

Raindrop had gone out for a walk that morning; to relieve herself, stretch her legs and to get breakfast. Gosh, did pregnancy have to make you pee.

She was on her way to the pack's cache when a howl had been sent up into the air. She stopped in her tracks, her ears swiveling. She then debated with herself: Should I answer the door, or go grab someone with a saucepan, just in case?

She decided to answer the door. The howl seemed friendly, not one demanding the presence of the leaders. So she carefully trotted off in the direction of Moonglow's visitor.

Upon reaching the border, she spotted a dark wolf, with lighter mottling throughout it's pelt. The wolf's figure was also round. Her first thought that it was an expectant mother seeking directions or shelter. With her ears pricked forward and a warm smile on her face, she approached the stranger.

"Hello! I'm Raindrop. And this place is Moonglow. May I help you?" Her voice was welcoming and gracious.

Easy recognized Raindrop by sight, and her heart ached to find her still without Sumac, and skipped a beat for the roundness of her flanks.

"I know you, rain daughter," Easy replied, her tail wheeling skyward as she looked closely upon the woman for the first time. When she had visited in the past, Raindrop had been busy with the pups, and Easy had not wanted to intrude. Now, though, it seemed she had come just in time. Regardless of who the father of these pups might be (and Easy had a very good guess), Raindrop had married into their family, and thus, the pups would be born into it.

She closed the distance between them, bowing her head to Raindrop in offering. A press of foreheads was the way she wished to greet the woman who had married her son, perhaps twice over, now.

"I am the black bear," she said to the woman, her tail whisking. "Easy. Ishara."

She drew back.

"You look beautiful," she said with great feeling; some of it sorrow, but much of it gladness.

RE: when I'm dead and gone - Raindrop - October 24, 2025

The woman knew her, and it caught Raindrop off guard; that is, until she’d introduced herself…. “Easy!” She exclaimed, and eagerly welcomed the touch of their foreheads. This was Sumac’s adoptive mother. A sad smile had appeared on Raindrop’s maw. Would Easy judge her for marrying Valiant in Sumac’s absence?

They pulled away from each other. Easy’s comment made her blush beneath her fur.
“And you as well. You nearly glow.” Her expression was sincere. The glow she referred to was the “glow” expectant mother’s had about them.

“Come now, Valiant will want to see you. The children too. You are welcome to stay with me as long as you are here with us.”

Easy was eager to see Valiant as well, but even her most darling nephew could not compare to the excitement of a pregnant shewolf of their line. No matter how this had come about, she had nothing but love for the woman — but she would, of course, need an explanation!

She followed obediently anyway, too distracted by Raindrop to pay any mind to where they were going.

"Which children are these?" she asked, fishing for more information.

The two women happily made their way back towards the center of Moonglow.

And when Easy asked about the upcoming children, Raindrop couldn’t help feel a little bit guilty. A nervous smile crept on her face: “They’re mine and Valiant’s.” She then went on to explain, in short, Sumac’s disappearance. “Almost a year ago, Sumac left to search for his last known relatives. Pine and Silvertip went with him.” Her ears had swiveled to the side, laying lower on her head. “Angel Oak left a couple of weeks ago to follow a herd she’d been studying.” — “Ponderosa is the only daughter who remains.”

“Since then, Valiant and I have grown close.” And she glanced back at her midsection, “Very close.”

So they'd combined their families. Easy still waited to hear which children were left — for children always seemed to go before they were meant to. Before a mother wanted them to go, at least.

She bowed her head when she heard that both litters had lost three. That was all of Valiant's daughters, and all but one of Sumac's. Easy grieved for them, even as she hoped that they were, somewhere out there, still well. It seemed that Angel, at least, had been seen quite recently.

"I'm glad to see the family growing," she replied, her smile warming despite her worries. "Angel brought me news of Sumac and Vairë when she visited. It's good you've found love in each other."

She pressed her shoulder briefly to the other woman's, and was then happy to follow Raindrop to her den. She greeted Ponderosa with a gentle smile, allowing Raindrop to introduce them as she pleased. Angel called her Grandmother — but she would bow here to whatever tradition the girl's mother wanted to keep.
