There's ground to break, whatever's still to come. - Séverine - October 28, 2025

When next we find Severine she is a wick of flame against a dreary backdrop; there are no trees here, and the mountainside is only a blurry shadow to the south. The grass of this field (she does not know what else to call such an empty place) is short, dry, and very nearly as colorless as the scattered clouds overhead. Some of her quick-step is interrupted by shapes in the earth—she thinks they are rocks, or some such thing buried—yet as Severine goes to investigate one of these odd things, she finds nothing beneath the surface; no objects buried, no odd smells... It is peculiar.

Etienne moved about the coast like a ghost. Nothing held him down. Unmoored. He often wondered if he should go to live with his family in the storied place that they all go, when the Teekon is too much. But part of him did not wish to leave. Foolish part.

Today found him combing for food. He did not feel up to hunting. So small little sea creatures would have to do or maybe some prey that didnt cost him too much effort.

She carries on.
Each mound she inspects for any possibilities. She looks very much like a fox scouting the area for mice to eat, except for the length of her limbs indicating a clear size difference from the pests; but, still, she hunts and she does not look away from her task.
The stranger who passes near, she does not notice. Her eye is trained downward to the soil and from time to time she digs, or pounces, or stops to sniff and follow a short trail—and she is so wholly focused, the wandering man is missed.

She was small and fox like and he almost missed her. But he caught her sight. She didn't look up from her movements. And so the sea born settled to his haunches. He did not want to interrupt her and frankly he was tired of looking for food. So perhaps a little wolf watching, if this was a wolf could make him feel better.

What was her story? Had she swam from the sea? Had the sea dropped her as they often did. Or did she come from the forest dark and deep. Where even silence felt heavy.
