a white flame sunrise - Treepie - November 13, 2025

With so many away at the hunt, the mountain felt empty again. Treepie was used to it, though it unsettled her nerves a little. It also gave her way too much time alone with her thoughts. She’d needed a little time to process her rendezvous with @Kindle, though she had spent too much time inside her head this week.

On this bright and crisp November morning, she sought distraction in one form or another. She assumed @Alaric had gone, maybe even Tikaani too. But what about @Cosmo? And @Haedwig? There were good reasons those two might hang back. Pie drifted toward the pack’s rendezvous site, curious who she might find there.

RE: a white flame sunrise - Haedwig - November 20, 2025

Haedwig hadn't gone far from her den since being reunited with the once great princess, which continued to prove true today as she hobbled across the rendevouz site in search of a cache. She intended to return to her hole with a meal, and not reemerge until she had to again.

She had found herself enjoying the mostly empty mountain. The quiet was refreshing, and the break from brazen faces even moreso.

Movement pulling her attention, she spotted Treepie not too far off. She had planned on spending her time alone, but she hadn't spoken to her in some time.. and Haedwig desperately wanted to be nosey. Something told her it might be worth it today. Offering a "whuff" to pull her attention, the old woman paused.

The rendezvous site appeared as deserted as the rest of the mountain at first. But then a soft bark drew her attention and Treepie’s yellow eyes clapped upon Haedwig. Her tail stirred as she made an approach, utterly oblivious to the older woman’s guest and the melodrama surrounding her arrival.

Thank goodness, she said by way of greeting, shooting the Sage a little grin as they came within earshot. It’s been way too long since I’ve seen or spoken to anyone. How’re you doing, Haedwig?

It wasn’t her place to fuss over her elder, though some concern etched its way onto her face. She should’ve checked on Haedwig sooner, made sure she could get what she needed in the majority of the pack’s absence. Well, Pie was here now and, in any case, the Sage looked like she was taking care of herself just fine.

Treepie met her with enough enthusiasm that Haedwig didn't have to feel nervous - she even managed to sway her tail.

Sore, but the quiet is doing me good. She had someone cleaning her pelt for her now, and that was enough to lighten her mood from sour to just a bit grumpy. I'm on my way to find a meal. Come with me. It seemed pretty obvious that she was in need of some company, and Haedwig was in need of someone with a good nose.

You've been keeping busy? She asked, gesturing for Treepie to lead the way.

Haedwig didn’t mind the quiet. Treepie supposed that tracked; she hadn’t struck the yearling as the most social of creatures. She nodded her head and smiled, falling into step when the elder wolf asked—ordered, rather—her to come along and fetch a meal. Pie didn’t mind accompanying her in the least.

Not particularly? she confessed with a light puff of laughter. I’ve been spending too much time inside my own head. It’s not a bad place to be lately, she was quick to say, lips twitching, but the real world’s still better. Pie chuckled. And you? What’s been going on in your world?

RE: a white flame sunrise - Haedwig - November 25, 2025

She could understand the sentiment. Haedwig had spent much of her life in her own head by her own volition, but that didn't mean it was entirely pleasant.

My goddaughter came to join us, but that's the most I have to talk about. Haedwig chose not to speak of the events surrounding her arrival, for Europia's benefit if nothing else. Have you met Europia? You're around the same age. Europia had been out and about most days, and Haedwig often had no idea what she was up to.

I'm glad to have her, it's someone to talk to. Or rather someone to talk at Haedwig while she worked. That was nice too, though.

RE: a white flame sunrise - Treepie - December 01, 2025

Treepie had heard of many familial titles, though “goddaughter” wasn’t familiar. She shook her head lightly when Haedwig asked if she’d met this Europia. It seemed the other young woman had been keeping Haedwig company, which absolved what traces of guilt remained within the Ostrega.

I haven’t had the pleasure yet. You could introduce us, if you like, Pie suggested, then wondered, What’s a goddaughter? I’ve never heard of that kinship term before.

RE: a white flame sunrise - Haedwig - December 03, 2025

Haedwig nodded, a silent agreement. If they came across Europia she would tell the girl to say hello.

It's a strange word. She admitted. Once it had been new to Haedwig, too. I'm not related to her by blood, but I was very close to her parents. They made me Europia's godmother to acknowledge that trust. Well, and that if they died she would be my responsibility. Not that she hadn't always been her responsibility, anyways.

Can you smell a cache yet?
