if you're gonna tell them everything - Easy - November 24, 2025 Please allow @Milan to post first.
It was a beautiful area. Easy loved it for the crisp air and the scent of quaking aspens, and the open and rolling hills and the great big sky —It was her home. It had always been her home. Not the Stone Circle that lay somewhere beyond so much, but the whole area. "When I was a little girl, a pack called Easthollow lived here," she said to her traveling companion. "My aunt Valette led it, and my daddy and my siblings and I lived right next door at the cuesta, where I was born. But we lost track of each other somewhere along the way. Almost all of us." She offered the woman a sad smile. "Where is your family, Milan?" she asked. She felt, after a few days of getting to know the woman, that this was not all that strange a question. RE: if you're gonna tell them everything - Milan - November 24, 2025 Milan had been happy to listen to Easy's stories along the way, whether because some reminded her of her own life or because it reminded her of what she wanted her life to be. This one was the former. Far north, but I guess it isn't so different from here. A lot of wide empty fields. When most people thought of the north, they saw snow-capped mountains and permafrost. Milan had never seen such things, not in her lifetime. I know I have a cousin here, though. I saw him while I was still living in Bearclaw Valley. In truth, she wasn't sure she wanted to see Beau again. She held nothing against him, their reunion had just been so awkward. On the way they had passed the valley, the sight of it sending a shiver up Milan's spine. She didn't want to remember her time there anymore. RE: if you're gonna tell them everything - Easy - November 24, 2025 Easy looked toward the valley, too, and uneasy feeling prickling up her spine. She'd only been a girl when whispers of the place had first reached her ears, but she remembered — vaguely — there being some sort of I rest centering around a pack that lived there. She couldn't remember its name — But she thought of a boy she'd once known, had once slept side by side with. One who had, one day, simply disappeared. She couldn't place the timing, but she knew, somehow, that he'd died. In her mind, it was connected to those mysterious walls. Easy would never step foot in that place. "It seems we're well suited," she said, distantly at first, lost in her own memories. But her eyes cleared as she looked back at her smaller companion. "I'm sure I have cousins around, too — but probably not here any longer. But let's take a look. Have you seen the standing stones before?" She headed toward them, honing in without yet being able to see them. The pando clone forest was between them and the stones — a pretty if not rather lonely walk, this time of year. If @Sven is around, might he intercept them?
RE: if you're gonna tell them everything - Sven - November 25, 2025 I'll play fast and loose with timeliness.
Sven had come home for a brief respite from the pack hunt and to bring some of the hunter meat he had been given. He was a singular man and as such he had to take food in trips. His nose twitched as he finished digging a cache. A low rumble of distaste. He could not hold the land himself. But it still rankled that someone could walk in. So he followed the scent and stood looking. Stalwart and steady. You approach the stone circle. I'm the protector of it. I hope you come in peace. A tilt of his head. Steel gaze on the two women. RE: if you're gonna tell them everything - Milan - November 25, 2025 Before Milan could have a chance to respond they were interrupted by a wolf who claimed to be a protector of a stone circle. She knew she should try to be tough, if only for Easy and her unborn children, but Milan was anything but. She crumbled in an instant, deferential and silent. It wasn't much different from when she had been discovered in Bearclaw Valley upon her arrival to the Teekons - so maybe she hadn't changed as much as she thought. Looking to Easy, she waited to see what the elder would do. RE: if you're gonna tell them everything - Easy - November 25, 2025 Easy felt plenty tough enough for them both, stepping purposefully in front of Milan as soon as she sensed the young woman's discomfort. But in truth, she did not feel toughness was called for. The male was not threatening them. Not yet, at least. "Peace be," she greeted, her tone placating. "My name is Ishara Morningside, and this is Milan. We've come to see the stones. They're important to my family — I named my daughter after a man who is buried there." Easy thought that her brother, Sunny, must be buried there, too. She knew form Valiant that Steph had been there at the time of his death. She wondered what had become of the other girl, who would now be a woman as old as Easy was — if she were still alive. "What is your name?" she asked the man. He was young, she thought, but still no longer a boy. She imagined he and Milan must be of a similar age. RE: if you're gonna tell them everything - Sven - November 25, 2025 Sven felt a pang of guilt at the young woman's movements. She seemed unsure and scared and he felt bad. He had not meant to scare them. Merely had wanted them to know these stones were Sacred and he was their protector. Sven tilted his head and looked back towards the stones. My mother's family lies beneath those stones. And so does my father. He shifted at the mention of his mother and his father. A quiet show of pride of his parents and who they were. There was no one he loved more than them. And though his mother had left him, and his father had passed into the other worlds. Hopefully, Valhalla. He loved him still. I am Sven Lodbruk. Son of Gunnar and Taktuq. RE: if you're gonna tell them everything - Milan - December 01, 2025 Watching the pair and finding no signs of aggression, Milan was able to let herself relax. Are you here on your own?Her question came out of curiosity. She could not find any signs of company - though she imagined it would be hard to hold territory on your own. Most family pairings barely managed. RE: if you're gonna tell them everything - Easy - December 03, 2025 This declaration was of great interest to Easy, who felt an instant kindship with the young man. Even if she felt a little defensive, too — he still stood between them and the stones, after all. But when Milan questioned him, she remembered herself. Being much younger, and looking to anything familiar to ground herself. His mother's family laid there, he said. But it was his family, too, wasn't it? Like Milan, she hadn't noticed any other scents around. No trace, even, of a small bachelor group. No trace of a friend. Part of her was wary of his aloneness. Was he sick? Addled? But, as he seemed fit and sane enough in that moment, she decided to reserve judgment. "Are you an Apaata?" she asked him, curious about his surname. RE: if you're gonna tell them everything - Sven - December 03, 2025 Sven eased his stance even more, but he didn't move or give quarter. This was still his home. He had been here alone for sometime, but he had guarded it. Had caches in it. He was zealous and studious in his fallen heirdom. Even if he stood on rubble and sadness. A nod. I am. We were a small family group, but when father died. Well like many things it all splintered. He was an old man and due his rest, but he was what kept us all together. I think. My siblings and I tried to keep afloat, but one by one they all disappeared into the wilds. Sven did not feel bad that the she wolf felt defensive. Her family may have been here, but they hadn't been in much time. It had been his that had been here last. And his mother had breathed into existence a strong feeling of defensiveness and care for the stones. A shake of his head. I am Lodbruk, my mother was Taktuk Nanurjuk Ateneq, her mother Nanook. I am afraid that is all I know. She left before she could tell me much more of her family. And my father, he told me much, but it is dim. I was a young child when he died, and my memory is not the greatest. |
