her hands sticky with fruit - Towhee Jr - November 27, 2025 a sick feeling settles in her stomach as the days tick by slowly, like blood beneath a bruise and young peregrine is not found. she drags her grumbling teenager with her — at times literally by his scruff — ghost joining in as their eyes and ears from above as mother and son venture out. it hits her a little too close to home — though his siblings hadn't went missing. she presumes, without anything else to say otherwise, they were crushed beneath the rocks. rocks that she and tzar had barely escaped themselves : the valley had almost become their grave. they return to the caldera just as the sun sunk low into the horizon and the shadows stretch greedily towards them. -go, take some meat from the caches. fill your belly and get some rest.- she has to reach up now to place a kiss upon his brow before watching him and ghost disappear deeper into the caldera. towhee jr lingers at the borders, not yet ready to take her own advice. RE: her hands sticky with fruit - Carolina Redhawk - December 01, 2025 Caro hadn't newest aunt. She'd come in with a boy — more family, but not a brother or an uncle — who was not much older than her, but who was most assuredly much larger. She was more interested in getting to know the latter than the former, but family was important in all its many forms. She was eager enough to go and speak with her aunt, at any rate. She might have more information about Peregrine. The girl came slinking up to Gigi's lookalike, her head slung low and her tail whisking in supplication. -"Please, Auntie, did you bring any news?"- she asked, watching her familiar and beloved (but young!) face for signs of hope. Of course, Towhee would go and tell the grown ups about it first, if she did have news, but Caro was too desperate for resolution to think of this. -"I can help look,"- she said next. She'd not yet pitched this idea to her parents or Gigi. She felt she might have a better chance with someone who'd said no to her fewer times in her young life. For Towhee, that number was exactly zero. It would set a bad precedent to deny Caro the first thing she asked of her, wouldn't it? RE: her hands sticky with fruit - Towhee Jr - December 01, 2025 towhee jr had not expected a girl, somewhere around tzar's own age if she had to guess, to greet her. hesitation grips towhee jr as she reads the ptero, wondering how much she should share. just because she held nothing back from tzar did not mean that other parents were the same. weary to overstep, towhee jr offered honesty. -not yet.- she signs, ears fluttering back to rest at half mast atop her skull. -but we'll keep looking.- she is quick to add. -i'm sure you can,- towhee jr signs, not wanting to undermine the girl but every maternal instinct in her telling her to definitely not overstep here. if she hadn't been helping thus far, perhaps there was reason for it. -but that permission is not mine to give.- towhee jr hadn't given tzar a choice in the matter, dragging her teenage son with her to assist in the efforts. but, she was his mother and she knew him. she knew he needed something to focus his obsessive energy on. better it be helping to find young peregrine then the graves and ghosts of his father and siblings. -have you tried looking for him in the caldera, here?- asks towhee jr, though she suspected he was no longer in territory. if he was, surely one of them would've found him by now. |
