desert ironwood / verapaz rendezvous - Disa - December 18, 2025

Use this thread as a place to make IC posts conveying information that you want the entire pack to know without having a whole thread about it - it could be that pack mates will have noticed that you probably have fleas, or that you're activing suspiciously, or that there has been a pack of coyotes roaming around.

South of the mesa, untouched by its reaching shadow, stands a desert ironwood. She is a curmudgeonly old tree, twisted and scarred, but stubbornly sprouts new foliage each time winter strips it bare. In the summer, she is quite lovely, softened by a halo of soft pink flowers and nurse to a small garden of delicate plants that feed on the nitrogen she fixes in the soil.

Winter tightens its grip, and desert creatures begin to feel hunger. Desert coyotes have begun to circle the mesa - four, maybe five of them, sensing an impending birth, getting braver every day. They are thin and mean-looking, indistinguishable from one another except for the one Disa supposes must be their leader: a beat-up looking creature with scars so broad that Disa can pick her out from a distance.

She warns @Serein on her way to the garden, notes that Kemal's babymama is now has quite round and then says by way of goodbye that "You're round" without any malice; it is a fact and it is a good thing, and good things should be said out loud.

She howls for the rest; coyotes draw near, keep your eyes and ears open and goes back to her garden, where the steaming piles of compost are beginning to cool.
