and whichever way he tilts it - Onyx - January 04, 2015 @Shiv Onyx used to like it here. Used to. The edge of this forest was her home for a little while. That while when she lived with Mama. She even found it. It's entrance had been covered by grasses by Onyx when she left, but some of it had been blown off. She brushed it aside gently, looking inside. She crawled in, realizing she must of been much smaller if she had shared it with her mom. Onyx sniffed towards the back. What was that stench? It smelled like something had totted. Something sick. Something diseased. Lying near the back were seagull bones, the same seagull that had had the disease that killed Mama. NO!!!She sobbed and grabbed the bones in her jaws. She flung them out of the entrance, ignoring the rotted stench. She climbed out. Slowly she began to dig next to the ground. Then she went to where the jumble of bones had landed. She picked them up gently and carried them over to the hole she'd dug. Onyx dropped them, and began to rebury them. There. They were gone from her life. Goodbye, Death. Goodbye, Mama. She murmured sadly and began to walk slowly through the forest. RE: and whichever way he tilts it - Shiv - January 05, 2015 This was much farther than she had travelled ever before. Much, much farther. Gliding over the treetops of the dark, coniferous forest, Shiv glanced around, gazing out at the giant lake that seemed to stretch on forever. She was torn between exploring it or the trees below, the aching in her wings eventually forcing her to decide on the latter. Making a sharp right, the bird glided quickly down through the leaves, landing upon a branch high above a distressed-looking wolf. Curious, Shiv silently watched as the female buried something in the ground before walking away, heading into the trees. She watched her go with a tilt of her head, waiting a few moments before dropping to the ground and bouncing over to where the grave was. With hurried digging and scratching, the magpie unearthed the small bones that seemed to used to belong to some sort of bird? Unperturbed, she scooped one up with her beak, glancing back at where the dark wolf had disappeared to and deciding to have a little fun with her. She had seemed disturbed by the bones; was it once the body of a friend? With a mischievous chirp, Shiv hopped up into the foliage once again, flittering onwards as she searched for the female. It didn't take too long to find her, despite her coat blending in with the shadows of the forest. Gliding a ways ahead of the wolf, the magpie tried to predict her path so she knew where she could set the bone. Hopefully this little prank would go according to plan, unlike her last one in the Heartwood. Glancing around, Shiv kept a look out for any newcomers before quickly flying low over the pathway, dropping the seagulls' bone in plain view before swooping upwards and alighting on a nearby branch. There, she watched, waiting for the ambling wolf to come across her recently unburied toy. Would she even notice it? RE: and whichever way he tilts it - Onyx - January 05, 2015 Onyx continued her nice little walk in the park forest. Then she noticed something white on her path up ahead. Then she got closer. No. It couldn't be. They were the bones she had just buried, sitting right her path. She ran up and sniffed them. The same rotting smell, bones in the same position. She glanced around her, especially behind her, but nothing was there except the peaceful little forest. No!!! Death, why do you keep coming back! I buried you!She yelped nervously. She dug a hole in a minute or two, a small one. Then she placed the bones in the hole and covered it. She continued on her path, unaware of the trickster magpie up above. RE: and whichever way he tilts it - Shiv - January 05, 2015 Shiv had to contain herself. A cackle threatened to escape her beak but she kept it shut, keenly watching as the leggy female spotted the bones and ran forward. Almost as if in agony, she cried out, yowling about how she had buried the bones. All according to plan! Within moments, the remains were underneath the snowy ground again and the wolf continued walking. Fascinated but still with an impish twinkle in her eye, she waited until her victim was further down the path, once again flying down to the ground to uncover the bones. This time, the magpie went about spooking the wolf in a different way — one similar to how she had tricked the female in the Heartwood. Only, this time, she didn't aim to hit the wolf. Oh no, that would be much too invasive. Soundlessly, the bird followed the white-toed stranger, coming to rest upon a branch. There, she edged down it until she was almost upside down, clinging on with her talons. The seagulls' thin bone in her beak, she gently lined up her sights before releasing it, aiming to drop it right in front of the poor girl. RE: and whichever way he tilts it - Onyx - January 05, 2015 Onyx continued on her not-so-merry way, a little nervous but glad to be rid of the bones she called death. Unfortunately for the poor little lady, the jumble of bones, skull facing her, fell with a soft thunk to the ground. Onyx screamed, which turned into a strangled sob as tears poured from her diamond eyes. She looked around, including up, but from the angle she was at a branch blocked her from seeing the trickster magpie. Tears fresh on her cheeks, she called out softly, No! Please stop! I don't like it!!!Her soft calling escalated to almost a scream. She curled up in a dark ball in front of the bones and cried quietly. RE: and whichever way he tilts it - Shiv - January 06, 2015 Right on target! The bones landed in a heap just before the girl, who then screamed at the sight before bursting into tears, quietly protesting against the bones' antics. Had she more empathy, Shiv would have ceased her escapade and flew down to help the poor girl. However, the response she was drawing from the wolf was just too amusing — her frightened wails were like music to her ears! Humming softly with glee, the magpie continued to peer down at the girl, watching as she huddled into a tight ball of dark fur. The bones lay in front of her menacingly. Gliding down from her perch, Shiv landed a short distance away from the wolf so as not to disturb her, before quietly strutting forward, beginning to hop sideways as she neared the girl. Slowly, she bounced closer and closer to the stranger's rear end, suddenly leaning forward and giving her a sharp jab with her beak. With an almost deranged cackle, the bird then scuttled back into the bushes, hoping she hadn't been spotted. RE: and whichever way he tilts it - Onyx - January 07, 2015 Though she cried softly, it was interrupted by a sharp, high-pitched yelp. She had been jabbed near her butt with something sharp. She whirled around nervously, only to see a black flash as something disappeared into the bushes. She growled, even though she was trembling all the while. Come out. I know you're in there. She said. She tried to sound brave, but she still had her crying voice on and it trembled a little nervously. She sounded anything but brave. RE: and whichever way he tilts it - Shiv - January 09, 2015 Shiv peered through the underbrush, watching as the wolf eyed off where she most likely had last seen her, growling and daring the trouble-maker to show herself. The threats held no weight to them, though, shaky as the girl's words were. From what the bird could see, even the wolf's ear tips were quivering. She suppressed another chortle, wondering how long she could tease the wolf before she took off running back to her den. Slowly, the magpie crept around the trees, stopping every so often to kick and crush some leaves in an attempt to make herself sound bigger than she actually was, trying to fool the frightened girl into thinking she was being stalked by some large, horrible monster. She also added in some soft but deep humming noises, just for shits and giggles. RE: and whichever way he tilts it - Onyx - January 11, 2015 Noises of leaves being crushed in the undergrowth by something huge and a deep quiet humming noise, like nothing she'd ever heard before, were her only responses. Onyx trembled visibly, shaking like she was cold. Her ears flattened and tail tucked as her eyes flitted over the bushes, trying to find where the huge beast was hiding. She was not so sure anymore if she should've of challenged this big mean creature. What if it hurt her? Please don't hurt m-me...Onyx stuttered nervously, her blue eyes filled with fear of the unknown. She didn't want to get hurt, but the huge trickster made her fear for her little life. RE: and whichever way he tilts it - Shiv - January 11, 2015 How easy this wolf was to frighten! Shiv curiously stared at the cowering female as she stomped about the undergrowth, only looking back to her path every so often to make sure she didn't accidentally stumble out into the open. Surely this girl was in a pack. This place smelt like packlands — how had such an easily scared wolf earned a place within it? Perhaps she came to them bearing the bones of her seagull friend and they took pity on her. She looked quite small, maybe she was still a juvenile? Pushing the questions from her mind, Shiv readied herself for her big reveal. She felt she had built up enough tension and suspense, it was time for her grand finale! She watched as the girl quietly stuttered, pleading with the imaginary monster. Of course, Shiv wouldn't hurt her, she wasn't sure she even had the capacity to give her anything more than a mildly annoying peck wound. But frighten the living days light out of her? Now that was something she could do. Pausing in her tracks, the magpie waited a few moments to build up more suspense, hoping her victim wouldn't suddenly decide the danger had passed and take off running. She gave a few small whirrs just in case, before crouching down and eyeing off the foliage above her to find a suitable opening. There! With a sudden, shrill cry, Shiv leapt through an opening in the bushes, appearing before of the girl in a flurry of squawks, feathers and leaves. She swooped down, aiming to lightly graze the top of the wolf's head before flying back up to the branches in the trees, releasing a high-pitch laugh as she did so. RE: and whichever way he tilts it - Onyx - January 16, 2015 exit onyx, I guess. Thanks for the thread! =)
Something small, black, and white was shoved into her face. A bundle of feathers and wild squawking. Onyx actually believed the seagull must have come back to life from the dead. But she didn't have time to process this idea yet. AAAAA!!!Onyx screamed, her voice high pitch, tense, and horrified. Her hackles rose immediately as her her little white toes began to move. Her paws carried her off, away from the scene as fast as naturally possible. Onyx was heading towards Stavanger Bay, back towards her safe home. She was running through the Ravensblood undergrowth full speed, branches and leaves smacking her in the face, but she didn't care. There were worse things to worry about than a sore face. RE: and whichever way he tilts it - Shiv - January 16, 2015 Haha, poor Onyx! I'll archive <3
Never before had Shiv had so much fun taunting a wolf. The girl seemed to almost jump out of her fur as the magpie leapt out of the bushes in her surprise attack. With a scream, the black-furred wolf then took off running into the forest, most likely back to her den where it was safe and free from pesky, noisy birds. Shiv almost wanted to follow her but she figured she had had enough fun for one day. From her perch in the trees, the bird watched as the small, frightened figure disappeared into the darkness of the forest, her scream echoing around before fading into the distance. With a tilt of her head and a delighted song, Shiv glanced back once down at the seagull bones that still lay on the frosted ground, before fluttering off the branch and carrying on her merry way. |
