else our kind shall rule no more - Lasher - January 27, 2015

with the realization that his desires had all but fled him in a few respects, lasher found himself anchored to the plateau, but without the requisite witch, and soon found himself bereft. this he felt he hid well from blue willow, for she always provoked a smile, even in his sadness, and he distracted himself with the rearing of his children. peregrine had let him go, and would be an attentive father in a short while.

having lived in such a way with julien, with eismitte, with the panther, taltos was quite lost in wonderment at how he had settled into a traditional role, with, for all intents and purposes, a wife, and three small children.

he found he was uneasy at the prospect of having gotten himself here; while he adored the willow and doted upon his children, it was not in him to bind himself so closely only to one individual. and so he set off to procure the previous object of his affectations, prior to having fallen in love with peregrine. while the other was a traditional sort, so had the panther been.

lasher held no desire to stand in the way of love, for he sensed that perhaps there would be a romantic development in time, yet his heart was becoming fixated; perhaps out of desperation or a buried affection. and so he trudged toward the borders, eyes alight.

RE: else our kind shall rule no more - Dante RIP - January 27, 2015

The alpha had started the day with intents to mark the borders once more, but as he progressed, instead a whim led him to the borders nearest the plateau's edge, and it was here he remained, gazing contentedly out at the lands beneath. He had little reason not to be content, for though life had followed the same rhythms day in and day out, this was how the man loved it best. It was this peaceful sense of routine that made him feel that a home had been made here, and he clung to it, for he knew it couldn't last forever.

With his eyes held outward, he was unaware of any approach. Instead he focused on the movement of the birds in the distance, tiny specs that flitted across the sky. No other movement was visible aside from that of the wind, though at times this vantage provided a wonderful chance at sighting prey for future hunts. Currently the kill was far from his mind, and instead the enjoyment of the day was prevalent.

he was not long alone before the masculine scent of the plateau's alpha wreathed into his senses, and taltos, besotted, followed the trail to where dante seemed to bask in the day's aura. his eyes lay upon the silverscale creature for a short while, before he sidled alongside his leader in a friendly manner, reaching to brush the fur of dante's shoulder with his muzzle.

we are thriving, he mused aloud, turning a smile to the other for a brief moment. it was then that apprehension prised itself into his heart; lasher truly did not know how to speak to his friend of his intentions, and so he set it aside for the present, and leant into the inviting atmosphere of the day, lids falling to half-mast.

RE: else our kind shall rule no more - Dante RIP - January 30, 2015

Dante was oblivious to the dark-toned Beta's approach until a gentle touch to the shoulder alerted him. It took a moment for his thoughts to catch up to Lasher's words, but after a pause, he smiled. "Mmm, indeed. It is good, for a time I was worried." For a while it had seemed things would never settle down. He was curious as to whether others were as content as he in times of peace; some might find such monotony boring. He wondered if perhaps this was the reason so many came and went.

Turning from his vantage, he focused his attention on Lasher then, wondering why the Beta had sought him out. Conversation, or simply to catch up? It had been a while since the two had spoken, and Dante had noticed his frequent trips outside the lands. Had he perhaps grown restless with the calm? Completely oblivious to the other's reservations, he queried, "Is all well?"

dante's gentle inquiry provoked a low sigh from taltos; at present, he turned toward the silver man and gave a small smile. i would assume, came his quiet murmur. tail lashed catlike at his haunches, however; his eyes wandered back toward dante and he struggled to find the words to illustrate the magnitude of care he bore for the other, one not simply rooted in agape.

yet none he found, and pensiveness stole across his visage; lasher lapsed into a quietude inadvertently tense with all the words he wished to speak, and could not.

RE: else our kind shall rule no more - Dante RIP - February 01, 2015

Dante senses disquiet in Lasher's silence, though he said he imagined all was well. Immediately the silver alpha's expression grew more astute, and his look more searching, curious and possibly a little concerned. "Why do I feel that might not be true?" He asked. "If you wish, I am here to listen. You can speak of whatever you need, my friend." He felt that Lasher was holding back, but would allow the Beta to keep to his own counsel if that was his wish.

<style type="text/css">q {font-family: 'Vivaldi'; font-style: strong; font-size: 20px; color: #DF0101; text-shadow: 0px 0px 5px #F5A9A9;} p {margin: 40px 80px 0px 80px; font-family: 'Lucida Bright', serif; color:#000000; text-align:justify; text-indent:0px; font-size:25px'} </style>

damn dante's sensitivity! taltos laughed to himself, keeping his gaze carefully trained upon the forest before them. suppose one with whom you had supped and slept had as of late recognized a latent affection toward you within their heart; what would you do, my friend? he asked, the words sparking of their own accord from some wellspring of confidence deep within his breast.

RE: else our kind shall rule no more - Dante RIP - February 02, 2015

Lasher's question was entirely unexpected, yet it was a subject he was becoming rather used to discussing. What would he do, if such a thing were to occur? And was the question merely hypothetical? He took it to be such, and put some thought into the answer, though he was not sure. He loved those in his pack dearly, but did he feel more? He did not think so, not at this time.

"I would be honored," he said finally, softly. "But I do not know that the feeling would be returned, at least at this time. It is not a thing I have put much thought towards." And not something he expected to be turned towards him. He was not the most romantic of souls nor a holder of any sort of charm. He could not imagine what had prompted Lasher's question nor have guessed the true meaning behind it.

RE: else our kind shall rule no more - Lasher - February 03, 2015

<style type="text/css">q {font-family: 'Vivaldi'; font-style: strong; font-size: 20px; color: #DF0101; text-shadow: 0px 0px 5px #F5A9A9;} p {margin: 40px 80px 0px 80px; font-family: 'Lucida Bright', serif; color:#000000; text-align:justify; text-indent:0px; font-size:25px'} </style>

there it was; he had received his answer. and taltos had no reason to further implicate himself. and so he was silent for a time, but at length he shook free his ruff and bumped dante lightly with his shoulder. perhaps in time you will feel differently, and on that note he meant toward the moonswept form of osprey.

there was doubt within his breast that dante would ever consider a member of his own gender as a possible liaison.

RE: else our kind shall rule no more - Dante RIP - February 03, 2015

Lasher's silence stretched on and Dante recounted his words, wondering if among then had been a phrase to offend or harm. A niggling doubt entered him, but he did not rise to it, for he could not deny the truth. And the truth was that he, at this time, felt unable to claim such a thing for another. He knew it was not gender preference that held him back, but an internal wall that seemed impossible to breach.

He did not know what romance was. He had never experienced it, never touched nor tasted it, and it was hard to imagine something never seen. Hard to miss it as well. There was no emptiness to fill so he did not seek to do so, for why would he fix what was not broken? Not sure what prompted him to do so, he apologized, voice subdued. "I'm sorry. That answer... it is not the best." But it was a rather simple truth. "Perhaps you are right." He could not say for sure, nor did he have any clear picture of who it would be with, for he had no friend who ranked so clearly above the others. Perhaps Lasher had an image, but it was not one Dante shared.

<style type="text/css">q {font-family: 'Vivaldi'; font-style: strong; font-size: 20px; color: #DF0101; text-shadow: 0px 0px 5px #F5A9A9;} p {margin: 40px 80px 0px 80px; font-family: 'Lucida Bright', serif; color:#000000; text-align:justify; text-indent:0px; font-size:25px'} </style>

it is a fine answer, lasher corrected gently, wishing to ease any unsurety in dante's heart. now was not the time to tell the silver man of his intentions, his wants. the alpha had enough upon his proverbial plate to busy with the mortal desires of his co-leader. taltos felt it would only make things awkward between them, and muddle their formal discourse.

i hope that tytonidae and junior return to us, the earthen servant said softly, paws shifting upon the earth as he gave his leader a glance, worry for the missing girls writ clearly into his features.

RE: else our kind shall rule no more - Dante RIP - February 10, 2015

Still having no earthly clue why Lasher had asked the question he had, Dante let the matter rest as easily as the Beta dismissed it, but curiosity and confusion still remained within. He set it on a shelf for future consideration, for Lasher was apt at distraction and brought a rather large subject up. "As do I, though I wonder if they wouldn't be happier if they did not." Dante answered carefully. Truth was.... he wasn't sure he could welcome them back in good faith. Junior at least. Tytonidae yes, but depending on the circumstances behind Junior's leaving....

"Junior has left so many times, and to just disappear without a word. Obviously her loyalty to us isn't what it could be. I just can't believe, if she was happy here, she would do that." Not so many times. He wondered if that made him a terrible individual. Once he had forgiven easily, but now he understood more what it was to see those you trusted leave without second thought. It wasn't pleasant.

dante spoke from a place of logic, and while lasher was inclined to agree, he did recall how affable it had been in the days prior to fox's arrival, and sudden, subsequent elevation above wolves she did not know, and did not wish to know. it had thrown them into turmoil, something from which they could have recovered, only to be dealt the blow of peregrine's abandonment soon thereafter.

saena wishes to rule one day, he mused. i think she will be apt at it.

RE: else our kind shall rule no more - Dante RIP - February 16, 2015

Lasher's turn of conversation was a surprise to Dante. Not because of the shift, but the subject itself. He had spoken a while ago to Saena about leadership and she had hardly been keen on the idea. Yet, as he thought to her behavior of late and the way she had stepped up, it made a lot of sense. Much could have changed since then, after all.

"I agree. I think she will have the balance required, especially as she grows. She spoke with you about this?" He asked, smiling. He was glad she had found a confidant in the Beta if so, for Lasher he had no doubts would have rather sage advice to offer on the subject. He had an affable, open nature that at times Dante aspired to, though he doubted he would ever gain.

<style type="text/css">q {font-family: 'Vivaldi'; font-style: strong; font-size: 20px; color: #DF0101; text-shadow: 0px 0px 5px #F5A9A9;} p {margin: 40px 80px 0px 80px; font-family: 'Lucida Bright', serif; color:#000000; text-align:justify; text-indent:0px; font-size:25px'} </style>

yes. for advice, the earthen beta murmured softly. saena would be a wise leader, once maturity had settled upon her withers. of the four, she was the most levelheaded of the brood. pura was too feral, junior too unpredictable, and poor tytonidae lost in her own odd little world. saena was realistic and fierce, resembling peregrine in this, though she had blue willow's practicalities.

i apologize for skipping about with my words. i am ... distracted, as of late, he proffered, turning murkwater eyes briefly to dante. tell me of how you have been, he invited the gunmetal man.

RE: else our kind shall rule no more - Dante RIP - March 02, 2015

Dante looked intently at Lasher a moment before responding. "Things are great." He could not help but wonder if the same were true of Lasher. He certainly seemed distracted and the reason for which Dante could not guess. He had already asked, though, and would not do so again. Lasher could keep his own counsel as he wished, the alpha was not about to press or pry.

"Everything seems smooth, and I have you and Willow to thank in large part for that. I don't know what i would do without you two." The words were heartfelt. "Thanks for that." He didn't say it often enough, but it felt right to do so now.

RE: else our kind shall rule no more - Lasher - March 04, 2015

wrap up with another post from you? <3

<style type="text/css">q {font-family: 'Vivaldi'; font-style: strong; font-size: 20px; color: #DF0101; text-shadow: 0px 0px 5px #F5A9A9;} p {margin: 40px 80px 0px 80px; font-family: 'Lucida Bright', serif; color:#000000; text-align:justify; text-indent:0px; font-size:25px'} </style>

lasher knew he was being frenetic; he did not know how to keep himself from acting so. dante's words brought the slow bloom of an unfurling smile to his lips. the pack runs smoothly beneath your leadership. leaving blacktail deer plateau to you was one of peregrine's better decisions, it seems.

with a wan smile, the beta turned. i must go; our northernmost borders are due for a patrol. goodbye for the present, dante, and with a lingering glance he was swallowed up by the tree-shadows.

RE: else our kind shall rule no more - Dante RIP - March 09, 2015

He was heartened by Lasher's faith, though he neither confirmed nor denied the compliment. He thought the plateau would have done just as well had he or Blue been left in charge, perhaps even better, but he was pleased with how things were proceeding. They hadn't disbanded, so it was better than he'd expected. He hadn't really thought that he would destroy the longstanding pack, but the prospect had definitely stolen some sleep in the early weeks. It still did at times.

Nodding, he returned the smile, though his glowed with warmth. "Always a pleasure, Lasher. We'll speak again soon, I am sure." And with that he watched him go before also turning, skirting the trees in the opposite direction. He had some hunting to tend to.
