quack quack said the duck - Roadkill - February 06, 2015

For @Darkside and also AW. :-)

Roadkill didn't like this place one bit, but at least she knew a thing or two about killing things. The whole hunting thing wasn't exactly her forte — well, not the doing-all-the-work-yourself thing, rather than working in a team with owners and horses and lots of other things, like she'd heard of her kind doing — but she got lucky once or twice, and managed to stay alive picking meat off left-over carcasses, and she'd caught a rabbit the other day. She hadn't had much contact with the other dogs, though she'd heard of a lot of them being somewhere nearby, and she'd picked up plenty of their scent.

Didn't make surviving any easier, having so many other dogs 'round, especially because most of them were a lot less equiped with survival skills 'n her, she reckoned, from what she'd seen back at the lab.

Stopping at a lake, Roadkill sat down and started to groom her dirty fur. She didn't care that much about hygiƫne 'n all, but she knew it was better to keep her fur in shape if she wanted to survive the crippling cold of the wilds. Protected her better that way 'n all.

hope you don't mind! I need to throw her in a couple more threads :)
Content, Sweet Tooth jogged down to the edge of the lake to drink her fill, oblivious for the moment to Roadkill's presence. The bones still stood out sharply against her elegant frame, but her stomach was full. She had managed to run down a hare in the meadows nearby, and the creature had sated the hunger in her shrunken stomach. It would not do much to rebuild what she had lost, but it gave her energy and hope in these new conditions.

She would like to take down something larger, and her Saluki blood had thrummed when she happened to cross paths with a running herd of deer, but she knew she had little chance at something so large. There had been no young amongst the group and she was only one. It had given her an itch for more, however, and once more her thoughts turned towards hunting down more substantial food. To do so, she would need a dog capable of tracking, for her own nose was hardly up to the task.

The german shepherd ran around the the territory they had, gradually getting tired and thirsty (LIKE A HOE JK). He smelt a source of water, and rushed towards it. As he drew closer to the water, he realised it was a lake. There stood two others. Both females, a tall lanky one, and a shorter one. He barked out, hoping they would notice him.

He bent his head to take a drink of water, lapping up some of the lake water before padding close to the two females. "Hello?" He asked. These were the first females he had come in contact with since the van crash. He studied both of them, seeing the bones sticking out of the tall one and slight ticks in the fur of the short one. Well, that only seemed normal, since they had all been through hell and back.

When she looked up from grooming her fur, Roadkill suddenly noticed a tall female there, who was looking thoughtful, as though she was considering an idea of sorts. She didn't look harmful, so Roadkill continued to groom her fur, large tongue making slobbery noises as she did, until a sheppherd appeared and greeted her (and, it seemed, the thoughtful female dog).

"Good day, mate," Roadkill greeted. Turning her head to look at the larger female she called out, "What's goin' on in yer head 'n, lady?" Roadkill figured she probably looked like a very compressed sausage of a dog compared to these two, especially the other female, who was much lankier and taller than her.

It had been so long since conversation had occurred... surprisingly, even in the chaos, these last few days she had interacted with more of her fellows than she could remember in the lab. Chalk it up to the desperation of their situation.

She might have brushed off the question, but actually did not feel like doing so. "Food," came the short reply, and she wondered what else might have been going on in her head. Did they have the energy or the luck to dwell on anything else? "What else is there to think about?"

If they could offer distraction, she would welcome it.

i hope you don't mind me fading this out since darkside left and it's super old. :)

Roadkill licked her lips at the mention of food, though she did not consciously notice so. Of course. They were with three dogs; they could possibly take down something large enough for a bit of sustenance together. Roadkill was not acquainted with hunting large prey but she would give it her best. "Aight 'n," she agreed, and looked at the sheppherd to see if he would join them, too.

Then, with or without the sheppherd, the two dogs, one tall and lanky and one short-legged and pudgy — they probably looked like a comical duo together — went on their way to try and hunt down a deer. They eventually managed to find an emaciated old doe which they brought down and ate from, although she was old and didn't have much meat on her bones; still, it was better than nothing, and Roadkill was glad to have some food in her stomach for a while.
