the ocean's lure - Roadkill - February 17, 2015 Roadkill had travelled far from where the van had crashed. She'd travelled through many different territories, and now she stood upon a beach. It smelled like funny animals here, though she didn't presently see any of said animals around. The scarred lab dog paused upon the beach to stare at the ocean, which she'd never seen before. She'd heard of it, from other dogs, said their Owners took 'em there sometimes, but she'd never had an Owner that took here there. Now she was here. In a moment of childish glee, Roadkill dashed up to the water and threw her head up, tongue lolling from the side of her mouth. She barked loudly as she chased seagull after seagull and ran through the shallows of the ocean, while her tail wagged furiously. RE: the ocean's lure - Phantom - February 17, 2015 The white fae watched as the dog ran through the waves, chasing seagulls with a smile on it's face. She didn't know that they had dogs in Teekon, but it seemed she was wrong. She approached the dog with a small smile and a wagging tail, letting her know that she came in peace. Phantom leaped into the waves, staying a respectfully distance from the dog. Strong, seasoned legs brought her deeper into the water, where she floated, being pushed slowly back to the shore by the waves. To her, this was what flying felt like. RE: the ocean's lure - Roadkill - February 19, 2015 Roadkill's first instinctual response, after all that had happened, to the wolf's approach was to bare her teeth into a slobbering growl. However, the wolf was... was it smiling? Roadkill wasn't so sure, since it'd been pretty damn long ago since she'd seen a smile of any kind, 'cept for the ones the Owners at the lab threw her, anyway. The wolf went into the water and started to swim, floating back and forth, getting closer to the shore and swimming further away again. Roadkill'd learned not to toy with the currents, and she didn't like going that far out into the ocean. "Oy, don't forget the currents' pull!" Ugh, why did she even care? The hoped the bloody wolves all dropped dead, anyway, so she'd not be in danger of being chopped to pieces by their fangs all the time. Roadkill stayed in the shallows, where the waves tickled her stomach, and watched the wolf, curious if it would stay out far into the sea or get closer. RE: the ocean's lure - Phantom - February 19, 2015 The dog yelled something out to her, but she didn't hear. She slipped under the waves, trying to keep her eyes open under the freezing blue. She managed for only a second, and concluded the fish must not have very good vision, for the whole world was distorted and wonky. She burst through the water again, gasping for breath, and thoroughly soaked. suddenly, a huge push made her almost tumble again, and she whirled around. The current. Oops. With a startled gasp, she flung herself toward shore, and swan, her legs kicking wildly, until the stood again on dry ground. She shook her coat, cold, teeth trembling. Phantom sat huddled on the sand for a few moments, attempting to catch her breath. Mother Sea had almost had her. RE: the ocean's lure - Roadkill - February 19, 2015 Roadkill watched the wolf completely disregard everything she had just said and sighed loudly, rolled her eyes as she watched the dumb wolf. She took some distance from the rolling waves, shook her pelt and sat down on the soft sand, observing the dumb ole' wolf from a safe position. Suddenly the wolf seemed to realise what was going on and she began to swim to the shore, only narrowly managing so before the current would take her. "Them ears're made for listenin', y'know," Roadkill commented when the wolf came dashing past her to safer ground. "Guess Oi can't bloody blame you though, with them tiny triangles." Nothing like a beagle's ears, they were. She had perhaps only one properly functioning ear left, but she'd choose it over two of them miniature triangles squashed on top of her head any day. RE: the ocean's lure - Phantom - February 19, 2015 Phantom gazed quizzically at the small dog. It spoke a dialect she found hard to follow, but it seemed to be something about triangles and ears. Oh well. Dogs were strange. She knew from experience that these where not good hunters, instead of hunting rabbits they chased them away! The ghost motioned for the dog to follow her, some ways down the beach. Earlier, Phantom had found the remains of a seal of some sort, but hadn't been hungry. Now she was, and decided to share with the dog, if she wanted any. She ripped of a chunk of the flesh and placed it close to it, then trotted back to the seal carcass and began eating herself. RE: the ocean's lure - Roadkill - February 19, 2015 The wolf didn't respond, wasn't the chatty kind like the ones Roadkill had met before. Roadkill stared at the dog in wonder as it stared at her for a moment. Seemed harmless enough, though. Then the wolf motioned for her to follow and started to walk along the beach. Roadkill did not instantly follow, but once she noticed the seal carcass a while down the beach, she came into motion and followed the wolf. A piece of ripped off meat was placed in front of Roadkill, and she stared at the wolf, face void of emotion. She wasn't sure where she deserved this off, but she supposed she should be grateful for it, since her stomach was rumbling like mad. Hunting here wasn't as easy as hunting rabbits in the forest; a beagle trained to kill, Roadkill wasn't the best hunter, but she was better at it than a lot of her fellow dogs, that much was for sure. "Thanks, Oi s'ppose," Roadkill said when the wolf returned to the seal carcass and started to eat. She noisily took the meat from the ground and started to slobber it down, while chewing noisily, stuffing too much in her mouth and dropping half of it on the ground again while she chewed. RE: the ocean's lure - Phantom - March 05, 2015 Phantom gave the dog a small smile. It seemed hungry, starving even, and thin. She stepped back from the carcass, and motioned to the dog. She could eat it. Phantom's hunger was already sated. She sat back on her haunches and watched the dog, wondering if it would accept the gift. It would be stupid not to. RE: the ocean's lure - Roadkill - March 05, 2015 Roadkill did accept the gift that the wolf offered her. She was surprised that the wolf didn't want to have any of the meat herself, but well, wasn't like it mattered that much. The more for her, the better. The meat tasted strange, like nothing Roadkill'd ever eaten before, but then, all of the food here tasted pretty out there, anyway. When she'd eaten her fill, Roadkill nodded at the wolf. "Thanks, Oi hope." Because she still didn't know if this meat was going to nourish her or kill her once it settled in her stomach. "See ya." With those words, Roadkill departed from the shore, leaving the kind white wolf alone. She glanced over her shoulder once to see what the wolf would do. This had been the first of these wolf-creatures that'd been nice to her. Roadkill supposed that there was surprise 'n hope left in this strange world, after all. my last post, feel free to finish it & archive :-) thanks for the thread.
