A New Nightmare [Read Only] - Hawkeye - December 26, 2013 Hawkeye traveled up the plateau in the blanket of night, the moon peering through a scattering of clouds. She stopped for a moment on her sacred ledge, deciding that there was definite work to be done. The wolf that blended with the night straggled throughout the forest, finding misshapen, colorful rocks and carrying them back to the ledge in her mouth and dropping them to the floor. After finding a shattered tree trunk from a smaller tree, she dug around for about an hour before being able to drag it from its roots to her peaceful ledge; it was a blessing from Sos that the trunk had been close to her new worshiping grounds, right along the outside treeline on the edge of the plateau. A yawn bit at Hawkeye and she looked around before deciding that she would set-up and find a sacrifice in the morning. She walked lazily to the den and found, to her slight enjoyment, no one there. The black female curled into the corner and fought her way to sleep. She drifted from the sky down to a field of high grass. She flinched as she hit the ground from what seemed to be a high speed, but a gentle landing welcomed her. She looked forward, and about half a mile away was a forest. The grass swayed around her, turning to wheat when the wind shifted. Looking to her left, a large harvest moon shone in the sky, floating in a strange stillness. There was a tall crag in the same direction, with dollops of rock and air leading the way up to the highest point. If she were to go this way, she would have to leap from rock to rock. The forest interested her more, though. She turned her neck back, and the wind shifted once more, as did the wheat to grass. Hawkeye noticed that even as the grass blew in the breeze, she could not feel it ruffle her own fur. She moved forward slowly, the wind picking up. As she reached the forest, a nonchalant "hoo" filled the air and she ducked when the sound of loud wings flapping filled the air. A small whine and howl followed, as if a pup had lost its mother. The swarthy female moved forward through the trees, and shortly found a small pup, maybe a month old, shivering not from cold, but from fear. The black pup paced atop a bed mixed with what seemed to be the wheat and the long grass from the field. Hawkeye moved forward once more, this time cautiously. The small wolf looked familiar in a certain way, and when she neared, it opened its eyes. The large wolf gasped as her own eyes looked back at her. Suddenly, the young version of herself growled and then ran into the blackness of the forest. Hawkeye ran after her, weaving through and almost running into trees, her eyesight getting duller the deeper she went. Finally, she stopped, almost blind; but the silence around her was deafening. Once more, a "hoo!" filled the air. Hawkeye looked up with her foggy eyes and there an owl sat. It spread its large wings and flapped them furiously before flying right at her face, pecking for her near blinded eyes. She woke with a gasp, and sucked air into her lungs as if she were suffocating just moments before. The female stumbled from the den and into a tree, sinking to the ground. What just happened to her? And what was the strange dream? She looked around, suddenly paranoid, but nothing was there. Her eyesight was back, and her hearing was near-gone again. A messenger of hidden truths, secrets, and omens; silent and swift of movement; keen sight into obscure events; unmasking those who would deceive you. These are the things that your owl represents and it has chosen you Sos spoke to her in a tone that was not hushed this time. Was this to be her animal guide? An owl? She had only seen one once before, when she was... a small pup. Hawkeye stood and let out a howl that dropped off at the end, then broke into a run for her shrine. It was time to set the altar up, and time to meditate on Sos and the owl. |
