What's good for you. - Constantine - March 11, 2015

He crept toward the borders. The ground was his cover, his dark body melding with it as perfectly as a wolf could hope. It was for this reason that he had waited until dusk to make a break for it, when his fair-coated sister would have stood out more but he merely became one with the darkness.

The young male huffed a sound through his throat and out into the world, ears twisting as the slight tip his head always seemed to have was exaggerated a bit. Something had been near. At first, he had wondered if a stray sibling or parent had followed him here. No, though, the sound disappeared with the same swiftness in which it had arrived.

He curled a contented smile about his lips and kept walking. To the borders, where the invisible wall of Them and Us existed. Where his parents peed to mark their landscape, something to which he wanted to contribute.

For surely Constantine's mark would scare away all foes.

Old cities had castle walls and packs ..well, they had invisible walls to protect them from outsiders. Sometimes with friendly folk the bridge would be lowered and allowed in, as for straggling peasants who became citizen and -- maybe in due time -- even royalty.

Today, however, Blacktail Deer Plateau, would be visited by another lone straggler from a neighbouring kingdom. Forcefully Spectra had left the boundaries of the bay to embrace her wild side once more and to see and learn who and what was out there. Would that include returning pups to the lost and found section?

She was just about to leave again after having the wall on the "Them" side when her eyes caught side of a puppy urinating the borders. Unsure how to react (or to just turn around), the teenage yearling forwarded something that appeared to be a greeting. "Uh, hello ..?" Her inexperience with puppies was obviously rubbing off.

He paused with leg still lifted to look over at the one who had voiced a greeting. Was it normal for a Them to talk to an Us while an Us was peeing? Seemed weird to him but he wasn't accustomed to a lot of Thems, so it was possible he just didn't know how they acted at all.

His leg moved back to his side, skillfully placing it so that it didn't land in any of his recent urination. It took a lot of skill to learn how to do that. Particularly as a boy. Constantine was very proud he could be counted in the number of boys that kept his feet clear of such grossness.

"Hi." he replied, boldly stepping forward with whiskers a'twitch on the end of his short muzzle. "Aroo dem?" he asked, his words naturally jumbled by his youthful tongue.

Spectra had reminded herself that she didn't like puppies. However, when Constantine came into view that perspective was soon thrown out of the window. She wasn't certain why exactly, whether it was his puppy plushness or the fact that he dared to approach her without fear. His presence caused a natural smile to appear upon her facial features.

"Yeah! Yeah! Me.. them." Spectra replied as she firmly stood still in front of the borders; not an ounce of her wanted to cross that and she remained respectful. Every now and then her golden eyes wandered away from the pup as she feasted upon the lands in front of her. The lands that were forbidden by his mark. But she didn't want to seem rude staring at him ..doing his private business so that was really the reason she watched elsewhere.

"Spectra is my name. You're doing a good job protecting them from your family."

She seemed enthusiastic about her part as one of Them and he was a bit surprised, but didn't show it except in the slightest narrowing of his eyes. It was probably easy enough to miss since she wasn't really even looking at him. The boy's pride would have been pricked, but he really needed to pee more. So it was that he did just that, making sure his mark was spreading across his family's border.

"Yuh!" he enthusiastically replied to her words, glad that he had been correct. Though how he could have been incorrect, the boy wasn't sure. She didn't smell at all like him and she was standing there like her toes were hitting the edge of a physical wall, so she clearly wasn't one of Us, an Us would've leaped over to say hi and probably peed right alongside him. That would've been pretty awesome.

Spectra was her name. "Pekta!" he parroted, an approximation of her name. His chest inflated with false pride at her words, as if he had actually done more then what nature dictated a boy must do after drinking a lot of water or nursing a lot.

"Cawntanteen." he introduced himself. "Whurr fom?" he asked the Them, the Spectra Pektra. Where did she live, since she didn't live here? In that tree right there maybe?

He was so cute -- and the writer really writes Constantine adorable -- and it added up to the cuteness. Without any fear and bravery he stood there, following his instincts like many generations in front of him did. Constantine was also very curious and Spectra did her best not to overcharge after an overload of puppy cuteness, especially when the moment came that he pronounced her name.

"Yeah! Me, Pektra." She confirmed patiently while toying with his name on her tongue the next moment. "Can I call you Cawn?" She genuinely wanted to know as she looked at him while her tail gently swayed to and fro, showing kind intentions. Then he questioned where she was from and Spectra was reminded to keep it simple.

"The Bay. Other family." She tried to explain, before wondering out loud about Blacktail Deer Plateau. "You from here. What's us called? You like to explore?"

His bladder felt empty now, although most assuredly in the briefest span of time he would be ready to pee again if necessary. There was always that little bit in reserve for appropriate moments like piddling in excitement, marking a buried treasure spot or needing to take a brief pee just for the hell of it.

She repeated herself and he wagged his tail some more, glad that he had gotten it right. When she asked if she could call him Cawn, he nodded. "Yuhh!" he agreed. His mother did, his father did, his siblings did. It made sense that she would too. Pektra, the best wolf he had ever met that wasn't in his pack. The only one, but that didn't matter; her ranking was still supreme.

The Bay. He didn't know what a Bay was, but he supposed it was probably behind the tree or something. Her next questions distracted him from wondering, anyway, though he did briefly attempt to peer around her as if to discover this Bay hiding right behind her rump.

"Backtul Dur Patoo." he described his pack, knowing the name but totally unable to give it its appropriate splendor with the way he talked. "Yuh, 'splo, all da day, all da days!" he replied, hopping forward toward the edge of the borders to sniff toward her face.

"Pektra splo wiff Cawn, see'a Baayyy?" he headed to cross the invisible wall to her side, figuring she could show him her home.

His concept of distance was naturally naive; he had never been anywhere else.

The yearling felt a positive vibe and then realized a passion that had been burning within, to travel. To see, to explore and to gain streetwise knowledge of the world. It was good to have a home, a sanctuary to retreat. There was something very daunting about setting that first journey but regardless, she was happy to have left home and nowadays; find a new place.

It was the same way that she could not explain what The Bay really was, he had to see and discover on his own (or one day, with her). For the moment she could not answer his thirst for exploration and what the Bay truly was had to be painted by his own, vivid imagination.

"Patoo.." Pektra replied, having guessed that this pack would be named after a potatoe. At least, that is how it sounded to her ears."Yes, oh yes." The yearling said excited when he talked about exploration, she felt that same spark within her heart. "I love to explore." She admitted, then added. "What's your hobby?"

When he stepped forward, Spectra stood as close to the edge (on the safe side) as possible; she wanted to encourage his dreams but didn't enjoy the thought of him running off into the unknown. "One day." Spectra said, giving not a no but rather a; until later. However, as she said those words, Spectra lowered her head down to the ground. She placed her nose close to his, and if he would see and understand; it was almost as if she made a promise now. That is, if he would accept by instinct.

"Yuh, PATOOOO!"  he raised his head to half-howl that part, proud indeed if his place within its ranks as a cub.  Though he wasn't the top ranking cub.  The two-month-old would be working to change that very soon, whenever he got the chance to prove his mettle against those who stood above him.  Which included his stinky sister.  Actually, that reminded him that he needed to wrestle her when he got home.  It was on his to-do list.  Then again, it always was.

She loved to explore too.  Cool points were being quickly racked up for Pekta.  Which only made him naively trust her more, because she was clearly just like him and that was awesome.  She wouldn't lead him astray.  At least no more than he would lead her astray for fun purposes!  His tail whipped a happy mode back and forth.

The word hobby made his head tip deeper than its usual cant, confusion wrinkling his nose.  "Hah-bee?"  he asked with a huff.  "Whassit?"  Connie had no idea what that was supposed to mean.

She stood on the edge of the borders with her toes just on the line of what he imagined was Theirs and lowered her head, nose near to his own.  He inhaled the scent of her mouth, his stomach grumbling because usually an adult mouth near to his own meant food, because he was still eating regurgitated meat.  So instinctively, automatically, he nudged her own muzzle with his.  Though it was not aimed to try and instigate meat regurgitation, it was more a greeting with the way they were positioned.

"Morrow?"  he asked; although tomorrow was as ambiguous to him as next year or next month or two hours from now.  He just knew it meant not right now.
