Spiderlings' Glen (DISCOVERY THREAD) - Meldresi - June 28, 2015 @Lusa Would you mind if we did this for the "Discovering New Lands" Quest? Also, this is backdated about two weeks, before Meldresi went wandering.
It was time that they had a nursery. She was not the only breeding female anymore and she did not feel comfortable if Lusa slept somewhere else in the territory. The Night Queen had been exploring the tunnels, drawing marks on the tunnels' walls for potential places, but slowly those marks were being erased. Too far from the infirmary, too cold, too damp, too deep. Slowly she narrowed down her options, but she was certain she found it now. It was hidden, so well that even she had not found it on purpose. She nearly fell over one of the sides when she was observing the surrounding lands. One of the sides was steep and rocky, and high enough to kill a wolf if they fell over. The others were a bit more gentle in their slopes, however, but they all sprouted thick bushes and trees on their edges. Water fell from the top of the rocky wall, and meandered in a shallow stream before disappearing underneath a rock, presumably becoming a part of the underground river that sprung above ground, meandered close to the rocky side of the glen, before disappearing into the rocks, going underground once more. Tucked nearby was a large, abandoned tunnel, but she was certain that it connected to the Web, most tunnels did. From the outside, it looked perfect, but Meldresi wanted to explore more, preferably with the future mother. She tipped her head back and called for Lusa, loping her way around the high walls to slide down into the glen, her indigo eyes looking about. RE: Spiderlings' Glen (DISCOVERY THREAD) - DeadLusa - June 28, 2015 Sure thing!
She awoken to a familiar wolf tune. It was Meldresi. What could she have wanted? The dark female didn't feel so keen to seeing anyone. She felt crabby and sick for awhile now. She had much rather avoided everyone. But to not answer to her Alpha's howl would be rude and foolish of her. So she forced herself to stand, legs guiding her to the location of the howl. It took awhile, but she had made it. It was a bit hard to find. It was so secluded. Twigs snaged against her fur as she made her way through the shrubbery. She sighed thankfully as she saw the dark shape of Meldresi. She seemed to be investigating a steep rocky slope. "You called?" she asked as she padded closer. RE: Spiderlings' Glen (DISCOVERY THREAD) - Meldresi - June 29, 2015 Lusa came slower than she expected, but that was not surprising. This place was hard to find, even with the sound of her howl guiding the future mother. Meldresi sniffed around the ravine, surprised by the softness of the soil and the plants that covered the bottom. It was childproof and would be perfect for little children to play around in under the watchful eye of their parents. She turned her head to the young woman as she approached, nodding in greeting. "I did." She affirmed, looking about the glen again. "I was scouting out locations for a pack nursery and this seemed to be the best place so far." She said, padding around the glen, looking approvingly at the small waterfall and the pool it creating. It was shallow enough for pups to play in, without fear of drowning. "I wanted to bring you here to explore it, and the den nearby." Her gaze flitted to the dark mouth that opened in the corner of the ravine. RE: Spiderlings' Glen (DISCOVERY THREAD) - DeadLusa - July 04, 2015 She nodded at Meldresi's words. "That sounds like a plan." She really could afford a new den. Bruke's old den was nice and all, but she needed a more safer place for her pups to grow and play. It wasn't as secluded as this place. Outsiders can easily come and take her pups. But she would protect her pups from anyone, even if that meant attacking Packmates. She wouldn't take any chances. She turned around to investigate the water source. It seemed low enough for even the smallest of puppies to play in. She turned around to her Alpha, "Shall we investigate the den?" RE: Spiderlings' Glen (DISCOVERY THREAD) - Meldresi - July 05, 2015 With confirmation from Lusa, Meldresi nodded and headed towards the den. It was well hidden, tucked behind several natural barriers: rocks, a curtain of vines and leaves. It was well hidden, and easy to hide behind for little pups. Meldresi pushed past the curtain, entering the den. It looked like a typical den, large and expansive, enough for several mothers and their pups to sleep in, each litter undisturbed by the other. She sniffed around, noting the faint scent of badger rising from the disturbed dirt and dead leaves that blanketed the den's floor. It was previously occupied, but luckily they would not need to fight the previous occupants for ownership of the den. That was one blessing the Night Mother gave them, at least. Meldresi kept circling the perimeter, but happened upon something that caught her eye. A back entrance? She looked into the blackness of the open crevice in the back of the den, nose twitching at the familiar scent of the Web. What luck! RE: Spiderlings' Glen (DISCOVERY THREAD) - DeadLusa - July 21, 2015 The dark wolf followed Meldresi through the curtain. When she came into the den, the first thing she noticed was the old smell of badger. Luckily it wasn't still in here. She was not willing, nor fit, to battle for a den. The section they were in was roomy. There was just enough space to fit her, Grim, and any pups she will have. She walked down into another chamber, where it had less room, but was warm and comfortable. She walked out and looked down another exit. The scent of the Web came back to her. She had not travled through it forquite some time. Last time she had lost herself there for two days before coming out. RE: Spiderlings' Glen (DISCOVERY THREAD) - Meldresi - July 22, 2015 "We can clean this up soon," She pulled back from the dark crack in the den's rear, turning to the expectant mother. "I'll have pelts put in here for you and the children to lay on." Her eyes looked towards the smaller cave in the den's side. "Perhaps we can put the extras there." Pups would always be wetting the pelts, especially in their first months. It would do them some good to have spares. Aspiring caretakers (or anyone on penance) could be in charge of changing them. Meldresi looked back to the dark crack, gesturing for Lusa to follow her. "I can hear the river from here. Perhaps we could hide this and use it as an escape tunnel." She mused, pushing into the darkness of the tunnel. It did not last for long, for the glowworms and mushrooms lit the way. She had a feeling that this tunnel led to the main chamber, but it was only a feeling. RE: Spiderlings' Glen (DISCOVERY THREAD) - DeadLusa - July 31, 2015 "Yes of course. Get this badger scent out of here too." The scent made her uneasy. Even though it was old, you never know if it will come back. What if her children were there then? She would be in no shape to kill it. Heck, she was in no shape to do anything right now. Can't wait until I'm not fat. She couldn't do anything like this. It almost drove her insane. She followed Meldresi into the cave, astonished by the glowing worms. Never had she seen anything so weird but interesting in her life. RE: Spiderlings' Glen (DISCOVERY THREAD) - Meldresi - July 31, 2015 Meldresi did not wander far through the tunnels, only far enough to confirm her prediction on the closeness of this den to the Infirmary. When she smelled the scent of her herbs drifting gently through the air, the Night Queen paused and looked back at the expectant mother. From the look in her eyes, she had not been underneath the forest floor very often. The Queen would have to remedy that. The woman turned to her, looking at the younger woman quizzically. "The infirmary is close by, so that if you or your pups ever need medical assistance, it'll be right here." She gauged the girl's looks and comments from before, slowly getting a guess at what the future mother might say about the nursery. "What do you think of it all?" It was to be her den, soon. Unless the Gods blessed her with another heat, she could not see herself staying in that den anytime soon. RE: Spiderlings' Glen (DISCOVERY THREAD) - DeadLusa - August 02, 2015 Fade next post?
The scent of herbs drifted pass the two, making Lusa enjoy this spot even more. Like Meldresi said, if her puppies got hurt it would be easy to bring them to the infirmary to get healed. Indeed they were very lucky to be blessed with this haven. What do you think of it all? "I think it's a blessing to find this place. I don't think we'll be able to find a place better than this." Lusa was very pleased of this nursery. There didn't seem to be anything fishy or out of place. It was perfect. "Shall we go get some skins to make it more comfortable?" She turned around and started to head out in search of prey to kill. RE: Spiderlings' Glen (DISCOVERY THREAD) - Meldresi - August 04, 2015 Yes! Archiving it as well.
Both the mothers agreed that this was a perfect place to raise and protect pups. She almost regretted that her own litter was not born there, but alas, it was far too late. All she would have to do was hope that she had a new litter of her own with Burke, and then she could raise them here. Nodding in agreement, the Night Queen led Lusa back through the hidden crack, through the expansive den and back into the glen. She would have to find the softest pelts for the expectant mother, and ones large enough to hold a wolf and pups were hard to come by. She would begin the search in earnest. End.
