Living by the sea had changed him in ways he could not see, nor verbalize, but stood as obvious as daylight upon him: a thinner build by some measure being the prime example. Adapting to a lifestyle of seaside carrion, scavenged eggs and the various dredges along the coast had been difficult for the man accustomed to mountains.
Still, he persisted. Hungry—physically and in an existential way—and unable to satisfy himself wholly. As he investigated the grove for anything he might hunt, or tear in to, or chase just for engagement's sake, Drusk found only sand and the spire-like palm trees which he did not recognize.
Frustration bubbled in his belly and his heart; shoveling at the sand with his nose tipped down, as a pig might for truffles, he managed to scatter some chunks of rock and push around the sand, but there wasn't much to be found here of any value.
