She was successful, for one who had spent most of her life constantly cushioned. Two fat hares, a young otter by the creek. She was ready to call it a day when she saw something rustling in the grass, an ominous rattle. Meldresi stood still as she saw the brown serpent in a defensive posture, rattling its tail defensively. Her indigo eyes met its flat, green ones. She mused for a while, let it go, or kill it to harvest it's venom. Decisions, decisions.
When she travelled down into the Flatlands, it wasn't with thoughts of the new pack, though they always lingered in her subconscious. She gave their land a wide berth and put them out of mind, at least until she crossed an odour that was vaguely familiar. Had it not been the pervading scent on the pack's borders when she had been there last, Ptarmigan never would have realized that it was possibly a higher up, nor would she have realized where they were from... But it was unmistakeable, and brought back unsavoury memories of her encounter with Fang.
Twisting her face into a scowl, the female lowered her nose and began to diligently follow the trail all the way to the creek, where she found the culprit facing down something in the grass. She paused at a short distance to watch, keeping her suspicions and demands hidden for now.
The priestess glared at the hissing serpent, making the decision to use the creature. Snakes would be rare in Blackfeather, the lack of light was unappealing to reptiles. She could use its body in many ways; keep the head as a source of venom, use the scares in poultices. She was resourceful in that manner.
She prepared to strike when she noticed a rustle in the grass nearby, a black pelt in the greenery. The snake whirled around, detecting another threat. That was when Meldresi took the opportunity and dove forward, fangs sinking into the base of the head. The rattler squirmed futilely for a few moments before succumbing to death. That was when Meldresi finally realized who the dark form was. Ptarmigan.
"Greetings," she murmured around the limp snake's body before releasing it. "What brings you here?" She spoke with a calm and cordial manner; there was no need for hostilities, yet.
Falwasi trotted up to the unknown territory's border, sniffing at it. She had left Blackfoot Forest and travelled across two steep mountains surrounding a valley, avoiding the snowy caps in hope to find someplace new. The brown-hued wolf had become familiar with the land of which Swiftcurrent Creek's wolves lived in, and had decided to make her way across Teekon Wilds to discover where the other packs were based, and most importantly, who they were.
She had enjoyed her trip to the new land, she had plenty of energy to help her climb the steep mountains and she had time alone to think about her plans for the future. She would want to go visit her brother soon. Maybe in another month, or two. He deserved to know how she was doing after she had left out of the blue without any warning or goodbye.
Walking forwards, Fal's ears perked up as she heard wolves speaking ahead. She soon spotted them: a sleek black wolf, looking almost purple from the glare of the sun, and a delicate deep grey/black wolf with silver enhancements. They seemed busy — the air was tense, so even though Falwasi was in plain sight, and she padded away from the creek, making her way back towards the Creek and away from the two she-wolves she did not recognize.
She strode boldly forth when noticed, poised to give the other female a taste of ire, but before she could say anything, an unknown wolf appeared. Ptarmigan hung back and watched Falwasi suspiciously. She hardly wanted to pick a fight with the founder of an encroaching pack with a stranger nearby. Falwasi could have been pals with Meldresi for all the Alpha knew.
She made a thick sound of contempt in her throat before wordlessly turning away from both wolves. The bitch hesitated only a moment before loping off in the direction of home with her tail lashing behind her. She would find another opportunity to do away with the Blackfeather wolves, she was sure.
