All Welcome
Border patrol.

The warhound set to the edges of the terrain with a low nose that aimed to gather any floating scents from passersby. He had hoped that there would have been more who would have sought a place in his pack; more who would have found themselves on his borders. The titan was not displeased with the group that had formed, for they were diverse and capable in many ways. He knew that their path to growth would be a valiant one, and would shine a positive light on the leadership within the pack. More than this, he wished to see how well his theory would work with how the pack had been structured. Time would be the only teller of that.

On lengthy limbs, the sea wraith prowled. He marked where he noticed the borders were weakest and then moved on to ensure that he could do as far of a sweep as was possible. The stretch of beach was no less breathtaking than it had been the day he had stumbled upon it. Surely, his father had been a fool to have ever left the slice of paradise behind.

Born a lakeside trollop— nestled low in the pines beside a crumbling rock-spine of grim cliffs— Quill had little to no experience with your majesty, the ocean. She had seen it before, from a watchtower's view, but nothing had thus far driven her to endeavor its beaches. Until she had gone several weeks without running into any of her three brothers, and a crippling withdrawal from their attentions began to set in, leading her to risk the venture of someplace new.

She was still getting accustomed to walking in the cold, shifting sand when her nose caught a waft of fresh border-scent. The beartrap loped after the pungent smell, lip curling inquisitively as she spotted a massive skeleton-brand in the distance. Keeping her distance, and her muzzle into the breeze, she watched his actions for a moment, and wondered idly how good she would be in a fight on this terrain.

A risk it was, for the woman had stumbled upon the edges of the rift at just the right moment that she was able to catch sight of the warhound that prowled it. Had she arrived any later, she would have found good fortune in that he would not have been so near to the edge of his claim. Instead, the titan paused in his patrol and latched his cold sights to her. No emotion registered to the skeletal hound's face. Underneath the surface, his mind whirled like a great big clock. He searched her body and her features for a sign of what she could have been thinking – if she could have been a threat to their claim. Instead, it seemed as though she was only seeking answers that the sea could provide. She was not welcome on his land, but he moved to close the remaining distance between them to see if she would turn and flee or remain where she stood.

The moment he set his separately colored eyes on the investigator, Quill knew instinctively that she wanted no trouble with this hyperpredator. Regardless of what his actual rank was, he was king on this stretch of beach, at this very second, and as made for strife as she was, the Eyjolfur had zero desire to challenge whatever it was this mechanical titan thought he had going on around here.

So she kept her tail low— worm-wriggling at its tip to express her interest— while turning her muzzle sideways to convey her simultaneous aversion to the danger he presented to her as a lone wolf. He came nearer, but she remained rooted to the spot, not yet stricken by an urge to flee from him, and careful still not to make a move forward, unless she was invited to do so.
I hear the drums echoing tonight

Embry was usually awake before dawn, soaking up every inch of the fading stars upon the silken pattern of the spreading ocean. Today was not one to contest this tendency. Once again, he found himself traipsing along the pristine homeland, content in simply pouring his soul and mind into the symphony of the shoreline. He needed that rhythm again.

The water morphed from an inky void to capture, in glassy chambers, the rays of the rising sun. Upon this fragile moment, Embry detected the scent of his leader nearby; such a new and yet familiar touch upon his senses that it seemed to pluck him to all-fours, sending him drifting across the lengthy strand. It was comforting to see the brute at work on strengthening borders, and, as he approached, he felt a sense of guilt at having not been more attentive himself to the task. However, the sight of a stranger was enough to mar such other concerns, so that as he approached his superior, his aquine gaze was dappled with a faint apprehension.

Nevertheless, the two were not exactly at eachother's throats. Embry could tell from what he gathered on the short trek over that Ford was in no way discomfited. Good, he thought, so it must not be that hole-riddled boy. For it was certain that should his former enemy-turned-tyro have appeared in such a way as before, matters would not have been so tranquil. He lightly brushed shoulders with the fellow wolf of the rift in greeting.

Embry did not address the fae when the distance was closed, but his eyes perhaps managed such means of introduction for him. They studied the submissive attitude of the girl with impassive scrutiny. He would wait for Ford to make further advancements.

I stopped an old man along the way,
hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies.
He turned to me as if to say,
"Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you".

Not a king, no... he was much greater than any earthly ruler could have been. The looming wraith of the water was nothing short of a god. But these thoughts were not shared openly, and he could not have changed her opinion of him with the mere confidence in his frame. Instead, he stood at a standstill with the unfamiliar woman and did not beckon her or move to send her away. The body language that she displayed was not entirely a sign that he was safe from her fangs, but the light that glimmered in her gaze might have been enough.

Embry seemed to appear nearby, intent on being a part of whatever it was that had drawn Ford to the lone woman. Truthfully, the titan thought to send the sandy male away. He was a capable creature. He did not instruct the other to leave, though. Instead, he swung his head around to latch his mismatched gaze on the sea-lover; his expression remained unreadable. After acknowledging that Embry was there, Ford turned back to the stranger at the edge of the rift.

“What is it you want?” he called in a smoky voice.

*whistles innocently*

While they acknowledged the new arrival simultaneously, Quill offered the second male little else but a passing glance as he stood back— a wolf clearly beholden to the titan before him, and therefore a non-threat as far as she was concerned. She kept the sandy brute, who she might recall later as handsome, in her peripheral, though it was an arduous task trying to focus on anything but the virile colossus who unquestionably possessed this strand.

A distant thunder sounded, and she realized belatedly that it had been his voice— the resonant growl of something other— asking her what she wanted. Her black spine rippled, bowing further as the weight of his dominance bade her; daring never to turn an eye upon his face, or move her mouth in any way threateningly. Though Quill was a wild creature, absolutely, it was only when it suit her. Only when she thought she could win.

Still, she was also no coward, and so remained firm to her designated spot; bare and accessible for the moment.

"I'm looking for a way around your claim," she returned frankly, trying (perhaps unconvincingly) not to seem like it was her first time ever on the sands. "The fastest way, if there is one."
