Pox was tired. He was panting heavily, his arms were sore and he was completely covered in dirt, and yet the boy did not pause his efforts. He had chased the creature too far and for too long to be so easily deterred by something like exhaustion. He was so much better than that, and soon enough, the whole world would know just how awesome he was!

The boy shoved himself further into the hole he'd dug out under the rotted log, trying to get closer to where he swore he'd seen the chipmunk go. In his enthusiasm, he had failed to pay attention to his nose over his eyes, otherwise he would've realized that the critter had leaped up onto the log and scampered off instead of somehow tunneling underneath it (and leaving no trace of his tunneling, at that). Once he'd determined that the mouse wasn't within reach yet, the boy popped his head back out and paced up and down the log, growling softly as he went.

Movement out of the corner of his eye stole his attention. He looked over at his brother who had just made an appearance at the mouth of the den. His brother who was looking an awful lot like an opportunity... "Crow!" Pox barked sharply, insistent, "C'mere and hewp!"
