she woke today having little recollection of the days before. a state of fugue that now was more customary than the snow beneath her feet.
she left kvarsheim's borders, wandering up through tall pines and winter trees whose leaves inverted in sallow degrees of chromoplasty.
tracks of small game wound around the collapsed trunk of an aspen. as she sniffed and tried to remember what that scent belonged to, a sharp pain coming to her head like a coldfront nearly sent her reeling.
disoriented, she leaned against the bough and closed her eyes - remembering, for some strange reason, a pale face whose name she could not recall.
