casting her gaze about hurt; moving her eyes side to side pulled at some strained membrane within the back of her head. she winced, sitting upright gingerly and nearly falling over when a pair of vivid — truly the most vivid — eyes met her gaze. 

but there wasn’t one set of them; there was four. 

for a long moment she wrestled with the logistics of this, squinting as the blurry image of quadrupled eyes stared back at her with a snake’s hungering interest.
