the girl leaned back against the tree, squinting and willing the swirling phosphene colors of her vision to cooperate.
the owner of those eyes moved. one eye hung to the left and left streaking shapes with it, as if a burning comet outlined in fiery silhouette. the other remained pinned on her and the girl stiffened, instinct willing her to
pay attention
a voice not her own commanded, and it was as if her soul had been poured out unleavened. accipitra -- no -- ava -- no -- someone else took note of the predator twirling around the tree, and leveled the stranger with a low growl and murky gaze.
